Penny's POV
The room freezes after Nick's words.
"So, Andrew, when are you proposing to my sister?"
It's a joke, clearly a joke. But Nick has that smug little grin plastered on his face like he's just delivered the punchline of the century. But Andrew… Andrew doesn't laugh.
He leans back in his chair, his gaze moving to mine. His eyes holding something serious, and unreadable. For a while, nobody says anything. Even Jess stops laughing, which is saying something.
"Nick," I hiss, my cheeks burning hot. "You can't just—"
But Andrew finally speaks. His voice is calm, steady, too steady. "What if I did?"
His response shuts us all up. Even Nick's grin falters for half a second before he tries to recover.
Jess breaks the silence first, clapping her hands like she's the audience in a drama. "Ohhh, okay! Forget Netflix. Forget everything. This is the real show right here."
"Jess!" I groan, covering my face with both hands.
