Chapter 51: "Shut Up, You Bastard!"
Staring at the lit hallway, Tom let out a long sigh. 'This lit place shouldn't be dangerous, right?' Compared to a dark scene, such a bright scene is much more comforting.
Thinking about this, Tom guided the protagonist forward. Just as he was about to squeeze through a narrow gap, a deep voice resonated in his headphones: "Piggy!" The game's perspective shook violently. Tom, sitting in his chair as before, and the game's protagonist screamed in panic almost in unison. The familiar gesture of covering his face accompanied the same scream.
Through the gaps between his fingers, Tom saw on the screen a huge, blood-stained, horrible-looking man appear behind the protagonist. Then, he violently threw him from the second floor. As the protagonist fell from the second floor to the first, the screen reflected the same pattern, gradually clearing in the darkness.
At that moment, an NPC who looked like a priest approached him, uttering incomprehensible words.
"Who are you?"
"I understand, merciful God, you have sent a messenger to find me and protect your life... Child, you have been summoned."
The protagonist stood up with difficulty after a moment, completely oblivious to the meaning of this exchange. A new mission appeared: escape the asylum, enter the security room, and open the door.
"F***, what a sudden attack!"
Looking at the mission message and then his camera, which still had one battery left, Tom felt a wave of unease. He felt completely insecure. 'What would he do if he encountered that fat monster again?'
Luckily, he had only been scared for a moment, and Tom felt that encountering the fat monster was, in reality, better. Unlike the traditional fierce female ghost face, the fat monster was more human-like, though a little fiercer.
"What are these people doing?"
"Are they going to turn into monsters soon?"
He finally saw other people in the room, but they were all sitting there with expressionless faces. Tom carefully brought the protagonist closer, but the people and the mentally ill patient in the wheelchair ignored him. It was as if they hadn't even noticed him. He searched every corner and found some batteries.
"This... this kind of horror game is just about creating a scary atmosphere, there's nothing real about it!"
Tom tried to calm his stress with words. But just as he passed by the mentally ill patient in the wheelchair, the music in his headphones suddenly became intense and chilling, and the game's protagonist let out another loud scream. The mentally ill patient in the wheelchair lunged at him, his horrible figure visible across the entire computer screen. In reality, Tom was so scared that he dropped the mouse.
"Shit! Shit!"
Tom, slumped in his chair, covered his face with his hands, muttering his slogan.
Suddenly, a creak was heard and the door slowly opened.
"Shit! Who! Who!" Like a startled bird, Tom shivered and looked towards the door.
"Who is it? It's me! Tom, what the heck are you doing? Is the air conditioning too low? Hey... what's wrong with you?" Behind the door was a middle-aged man, burly, with a fleshy face, short neck, and black-rimmed glasses. He looked at Tom, pale and wearing a down jacket, with an expression of surprise.
"David! You're finally back!" Tom breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing the familiar face.
Looking at the secondary live stream screen and then the main game screen, David finally understood what was happening.
"Tom, are you playing a horror game? You seem to be in a sorry state!" David smacked his lips.
"Enough, David, I'm glad you're back." Tom breathed a sigh of relief, as if he had found his group. He picked up the mouse he had thrown and adjusted his camera. "Brothers, there's been a small incident. Let's continue."
He put his headphones back on. Looking at his good friend sitting beside him, Tom felt a surge of confidence. He returned to the game. His hands were empty, only a broken camera. Tom now longed for the horror games from before, where he fought zombies with guns. At least, give him a weapon. With it, he wouldn't panic.
"Finally."
Now that he wasn't alone in reality, Tom felt his courage return. After stumbling and dodging the mentally ill patients along the way, he safely reached the security room. Upon entering, a scene was triggered. Tom looked at the screen beside him and put on his hat.
"Why are you wearing a hat, Tom?" David asked curiously, beside him.
"The comments say there's a lot of energy ahead," Tom said after glancing at the comments.
"Oh, how can a horror game have so many things with so much energy? And with the light so bright, what are you afraid of?" David asked.
As soon as his voice died down, the priest's image appeared in the bottom right corner of the game monitor. After looking at the camera, the priest turned off the light. In an instant, the entire screen went dark. The power went out!
"Shit!" Tom was startled by the sudden blackout.
"Oh, Tom, don't get emotional. The monsters haven't appeared yet, what are you afraid of?" David continued.
At the same time, the security room door began to pound loudly.
"Bang!"
"Bang!"
"Bang!"
The pounding on the door seemed to hit Tom in the heart.
"Shit! David, shut up!" Tom shouted in a trembling voice. Then, noticing the comments on the live stream next to him, he also saw the game message: "Closet, yes! Yes! I can hide in the closet!"
He frantically ran towards the closet and pressed the interaction button.
"Bang!"
Just as he entered the closet, a bang was heard at the door and the terrifying fat man from before burst in. He observed the room. The game's protagonist was hidden in the closet; only his rapid heartbeat could be heard. Through the cracks in the closet, in the dim light, Tom watched the fat man's terrifying face, then turned away and closed his eyes.
One minute, two minutes, three minutes...
"Tom, Tom, why are you still hiding in the closet? The monster is gone, he shouldn't come back." David, who was nearby, watched the live stream comments and then curiously looked at Tom, still hunched in the closet like a turtle.
"Shut up! I have my own ideas!" Tom exclaimed as he took a deep breath and stepped out of the closet.
"Hey, Tom, don't get emotional. I'm telling you, this horror game is a loop. Now it's a scary scene, and the next part will be relatively simple," David said.
"Don't lie to me, David." Tom was skeptical.
"Hey, why would I lie to you? Believe me! The content afterwards definitely won't be that scary!" David had a confident expression on his face.
