Chapter 52: The Basement of Despair
While playing, Tom and David argued. Although it seemed like a fight, it was actually a normal exchange between them. Regular viewers of the live stream room were aware of it. It must be said that this atmosphere made Tom feel a little better.
But soon, upon entering the dark and narrow basement, his composure began to falter. Before, scenes with little darkness were rare. But this basement was completely different. It was utterly dark, with occasional flashes of light, but generally blurry, with practically no visibility. To see clearly, he had to use his camera's night vision mode. Although Tom was prepared, knowing he would need it in later scenes, he felt some panic when the time finally came.
"What the heck!"
"Turn on both gas pumps and the main switch, and restart the generator! What the heck!"
Tom observed the newly updated tasks, a sense of despair growing within him. The completely dark basement was already depressing enough, but he had to find the gas pump and turn on the main generator switch in that intricate, dark place? Was it even humanly possible?
'Why did he show off? Why did he play that horror game?'
Suddenly, a wave of regret washed over Tom. But the words were spoken, they were spilled, and now he couldn't stop playing. After all, he was the type who wouldn't say anything, but once he did, he would never break his promise unless he was truly defeated.
"F***, f***, there's nothing to be afraid of!"... Tom encouraged himself, slowly making his way into the basement.
Following his instinct, he turned left. A short distance away, he opened a door and saw the gas pump in the room. Inside the dimly lit room, next to the switch, was a row of lockers.
"Good luck!"... Tom smiled upon seeing the pump. He had already completed one-third of his objective! Comments also poured in.
"Brother Tom, what kind of luck is this?"
"Did you find one already?" "I also want to appreciate how Brother Tom breathes."
"Isn't it normal? There were arrows on the wall before, but Brother Tom didn't notice."
"Do you see the locker next to it? I have a feeling the fat guy from before will come in later?"
"He shouldn't? How can the fat guy get in with such a big body?"
Following the discussion in the raid, Tom also noticed the locker next to it.
"I'm going to turn on this air pump later, so a monster might appear. Is this locker for hiding?"
He looked at the air pump switch in front of him and the locker beside him. After thinking about it, Tom pressed the switch. After all, if the air pump isn't on, there's no way to advance in the game.
The dull click of a switch, followed by a creak, made Tom quickly hide in a nearby locker.
About ten seconds later, a series of thuds resonated in his headphones.
"Bang!"
"Bang!"
"Bang!"
The sound continued, followed by the splintering of wood and muffled footsteps approaching the room. Hidden in the locker, Tom didn't turn off the camera. He leaned back in his chair and adjusted the hood of his jacket.
Then, he saw a psychopath enter, holding a wooden board resembling a mace. In the camera's night vision mode, the man looked incredibly fierce and terrifying.
He paced back and forth across the room, his erratic movements giving an unsettling feeling. In night vision, his wrinkled skin appeared a pale, distorted white, and his eyes, like small light bulbs, were a terrifying sight.
"Damn it! What a smart move! I managed to hide in a locker!" Tom breathed a sigh of relief and then boasted.
But then, his nerves suddenly sharpened when the monster in front of him began to check the lockers. The sound of a nearby locker opening resonated in his headset, terrifying Tom to the point of choking.
Luckily, the psycho monster only checked two lockers before growling.
"Damn it! This is getting more and more dangerous!" Tom swallowed. His situation was clearly desperate. Not only did he have to search for switches in the dark, but he also had to be careful of a boss that could appear at any moment.
After waiting ten seconds, making sure the enemy wouldn't return, Tom finally emerged from the locker. In the darkness, Tom saw a door with an arrow, right next to the gas pump he had activated. He opened it and looked inside. Indeed, there was another pump. The only difference was that this room had no locker to hide in.
"Damn! What am I supposed to do now?"
Tom panicked as he observed the scene, carefully studying the comments. However, for a newly released horror game, the live stream comments lacked wisdom and offered seemingly unreliable solutions. Of course, it was also possible that they knew the answer, but wouldn't share it.
Then, his good friend David, sitting beside him, offered him some advice.
"Hey, Tom, isn't it simple?"
"If there's a locker, it means there's a monster, but if there's no locker, doesn't that mean there's no monster?"
"And when you go in and turn on the air pump, why don't you close the door first? Won't the monster bang on the door? That way you'll be prepared," advised David, who was listening to lively music with headphones.
As for why he was wearing headphones, it was mainly because he was a little scared. Of course, he couldn't hear the game's music, and he had watched Tom play, not directly on the main screen, but on the secondary screen where the comments were displayed. This made the fear much less intense.
"Brother David, that makes sense." Tom thought about it for a moment, and it seemed to make sense.
But he still felt that something was wrong, but he couldn't pinpoint it. However, in this critical situation, Tom didn't think too much about it and decided to follow David's suggestion.
After all, it seemed quite reasonable.
