Kya's POV
I moved slowly through the hallway. Everything looked different—the designs, the paintings on the walls—they looked like nothing I had ever seen before. The whole area had this scent I couldn't quite place. It smelled wild, it smelled foreign, but it wasn't irritating in any way. It just made me curious about where I was.
There were guards all over. Is this a palace or something?
As my eyes roamed around, I didn't know which direction to go until when I spotted Linda—the weird lady who had worked on me—moving hurriedly through the hallway.
"Hey, Linda!" I called out.
She glanced at me , raising an eyebrow.
"I need your help."
"I'm listening."
"Where's Xavier?"
"Open there," Linda replied, pointing at the huge doors a few meters away from where I was. She then kept walking to wherever she was headed. I mouthed a thank you and headed toward the doors.
Of course, there were guards there. I looked at each one of them, wanting to say something, but none gave me the attention I wanted. I breathed in and out, then pushed the doors open.
There he was—seated, eating what looked to be raw. He didn't even lift an eyelash when I came in. I moved slowly toward Xavier, who sat alone at the table eating.
Oh... it's steak.
"I want to go home," I said, still standing.
"Have a seat," he replied without looking at me.
"How did I get here? And why am I here?"
"I brought you here."
"I know."
"Then why ask if you already know the answer?" Xavier smirked.
"You're such a jerk."
"Food is getting cold."
"Fuck food! I need to be home!" I snapped.
That made Xavier finally look at me. He put the last piece of steak into his mouth, drank a little wine, pushed his chair back slightly, and stood up.
"Let's go," he said simply, beginning to walk quickly ahead of me.
So just like that—no answer, no nothing. Damn, this man has the balls.
I followed him in silence. Neither of us said a word .
...
He parked exactly where I had told him to, then turned and looked at me.
"What next
"What do you mean?"
"What are you going to do after this?
"Of course, continue with my crazy life. Pretend that I never slept at your place, . Go back to my daily routine.my job ,my bills, my mom"
He hummed, nodding his head.
"Okay then, see you tonight," he said at last, waiting for me to get out of his car.
I shot immediate daggers at him, tilting my head to the side, trying to find the perfect words to tell him—but I didn't find any.
"You get on my nerves," was all I managed to say before I stepped out and slammed the door shut like I could actually afford such a car.
I walked slowly toward our front door, feeling a little nervous, not knowing what to expect. Last night was a hell of a night—my landlady was on my neck, Mum wasn't feeling fine at all... oh fuck, what am I gonna do about the rent?
As my hand touched the doorknob, I heard Xavier drive away.
When I opened the door, Katrina and Mum looked like they were deep in conversation. They both turned to face me as soon as they heard the door. Katrina stood up immediately to meet me.The moment she saw me.
"Girl, are you good?" she asked, touching me to check for wounds or something.
"I'm good," I said casually.
"Where have you been?" Mum asked.
"We were both so damn worried about you. I tried calling your phone, but got no reply," Katrina added.
Oh, my phone fuck—where's my phone? No, no... when did I last see it?
"I'm sorry, love. My battery had died."I said
"Is everything fine?" Mum asked worriedly.
"Yeah, I'm okay," I said, getting closer to where she was seated. "How's you? How are you feeling today?"holding her hand in mine .she felt cold.
"I feel better now that you've appeared," was all she said softly rubbing her hand on my shoulder
"Katrina, thank you. I don't know what I would've done without you in my life," I said with a smile. Katrina waved it off and just mouthed, It's okay.
"I think I should get going. I have some things to finish up at work. And please, Kya—never disappear on us like that again, okay?"Katrina said
"Okay."I replied
"Promise?" she said giving me a look as grabbed her jacket and bag from the table
As she came closer and gave me a hug. It felt soothing.real and calming.
"I promise," I whispered as she let go.
"Take care, Mrs. Gonzalez. I'm out for now," she said before opening the door.
"Thank you, Katrina. For everything."mum said to her
And just like that the door closed with me having thoughts.the secret, the mystery.the man I had a connection with and yet i barely knew him.
