Kya's POV
I moved home merrily since today was a big one. I couldn't believe it—I had made this much money, $2000 in a single day. The joy I felt was beyond anything, and well, maybe my encounter with someone too had cheered the hell out of me. Uhmm, Neris was weirdly so different. Apart from her giving off that supernatural creature kind of aura, she was something else, something unique. Her beauty I couldn't trade anything for. The way she spoke—damn—it was something I knew I wouldn't resist at all. I just couldn't and I wouldn't.
I couldn't believe it, that after all this time, someone had come and made me question my sexuality like this. I wasn't gonna lie, I felt something for Xavier too—something strong, something unbreakable—and I wasn't ready to let it go. Whenever I spoke to him, even for the few times we had spent together, I felt safe, at ease. I felt warm. Wanted. He was someone I was beginning to fall for faster than I had ever imagined. The more I thought of him, the more I felt that pull, dragging me closer and closer to him, like he was a magnet I couldn't pull away from.
And yet, there I was, feeling this—I don't know—fire or heat for this strange woman. I knew it wasn't just lust. It felt bigger. I wondered what she felt.
I couldn't believe it, that in just a week's time I had met two people in the weirdest way ever, and yet I felt like I was supposed to meet them regardless. Because of this magnetic pull towards them that I couldn't resist at all, no matter how much I tried.
I reached home and entered the house. Mum was busy humming from the kitchen, cooking probably one of our favorites since it was a Saturday. The smell of food filled the whole house, and my stomach grumbled instantly.
"Good evening, Mom," I greeted as I went straight to my bedroom, tossing my bag on the bed.
"Darling, how was work?" she called out, her voice light.
"Not bad," I shouted from my bedroom.
"That's great," she replied.
"Mom, that aroma is killing me—it's literally everywhere," I teased, stepping back into the hall.
"Oh baby, I thought you missed this and so I decided to prepare it," she said, sounding proud.
"Hahaha, lemme be back," I said, leaving for the door.
"Don't take forever, food is almost ready."
"I'm just outside for a few minutes."
"Not to smoke, right?"
"Mommmmmm," I whined like a little kid.
"Ok, ok, do as you wish," she concluded with a chuckle.
I closed the door, the cool evening air hitting my face as I stepped outside. The night was calm, the streetlights flickering faintly, and the sound of crickets filled the silence. I walked over to Mrs. Billings' house, rang the bell, and waited quietly.
There she was, finally, after a few doorbell rings.
"What a pleasure to see you, Kya," she said, fixing her glasses on her eyes properly, crossing her arms on her chest.
"I'm sorry for waking you up," I said quickly.
"As long as it's for the money I don't mind. So what brings you here this late?"
"Uhmm, I got something for you," I said, handing over the $4000 I had so far saved up and today's tips. My palms were a little sweaty from carrying that much money.
"I see," she said, counting the money carefully. "$4000."
"Yes, I know. I'll get the remaining money soon," I promised, my voice firm.
"What if I told you that I want my full money, not in halves?" she smirked at me.
"You wouldn't," I smiled, because I knew her well. She was just teasing me.
"You know me so well, girl. But I do bark at times," she said, raising a brow.
This made me laugh.
"Ok, good night. This old lady needs more sleep," she said, already closing the door.
"Good night, and thank you," I replied softly.
As the door shut, I stood there for a moment under the dim light, holding my breath. The night felt heavier, but at the same time peaceful. I couldn't shake it off—two people, two pulls. Xavier made me feel safe, Neris made me feel alive. And maybe, just maybe, I was never meant to choose.
