TEN MINUTES AGO….
Audrey's shoulders shook under the chill, silent winds of Wolfhenge as she walked up the path.
The generous potion of wolfsbane she'd applied over her neck tingled slightly, a discomfort not comparable to the booming of her heart.
The flailing trees mocked her. Their twisted branches pointed down like accusing fingers. They seemed almost endless, rows and rows of them on either side of the path.
Until she found him.
Deckard, one of her mates. Allegedly. Unbelievably.
Despite the full moon, he stood bathed in darkness under the shades of vast pines, his back to her.
She approached him on hushed feet. For ears such as his, even a sneaking mouse was a joke.
"You shouldn't be here."
Audrey said nothing. She continued moving over the foliage of fallen leaves and blossoming grass until she was behind him.
She'd not come this close to him since their brief intimacy on day one.
She wrapped her arms around his waist and leaned her head against his back.
