Audrey woke up with a sharp pain in her head. Her eyes blurry and hurt too, as if a tiny creature was crawling about in there.
She felt weak, pinned to the soft bed by forces beyond that of the blanket. She couldn't help a wince as she pulled her unresponsive body into a sitting position.
Her eyes strayed over the now familiar room, lingered morosely on her yet to be unpacked, hastily packed bag in front of the wardrobe/closet, before resting on the window.
The curtains were rolled to the side and the blinds released to let in the fresh, dewy air of birches and cedar. Warm sunlight filtered in like a beloved friend. Beyond that was clear blue sky and the resonating sound of nature coming awake; hummingbirds chirping from their perch on trees, wild geese chuckling from the lake, sparrows cawing as they flew past.
