Chapter 8 - BEST FRIEND

Aurora and the rest of the family had gotten back from the supermarket, and they had a lot of things with them.

After putting the groceries away and tidying the kitchen, Aurora got a call. It was from her best friend, Natalie.

"What is it?" Aurora sighed as she picked up the phone. Natalie had always burst into Aurora's life without any invitation.

"Aw! Is that really how you treat your best friend?" Natalie said with a playful tone.

Aurora turned to the living room and sat down on the couch, "Just because you are my 'best friend' doesn't mean you can burst into my life."

"Can't a friend just come over?" Natalie giggled, "If it were up to me, I would've come without an invitation as always."

"You can come today, but don't think that you should come every day." Aurora's tone was stoic, like she was used to this kind of interaction.

After an hour, Aurora had been sitting with her daughter on the couch, watching a movie, while Elliot took a bath.

The door rang, Aurora got up and walked to the front door, opening it to see Natalie with her signature short hair and her oversized hoodie that she probably stole from a guy, and skinny jeans.

"Hiii!!" Natalie squealed as she threw herself at Aurora.

Aurora pushed her off and closed the door, and led her to the living room, where Aurora's daughter was sitting.

She looked at Natalie, then her eyes lit up, "AUNT NATTY!!!" She screamed as she tackled Natalie and hugged her. Natalie hugged back.

Later, after Natalie had sat down and they had eaten dinner, Aurora's daughter asked a question.

"Aunt Natty? How did you and Mom meet?" She asked, her eyes filled with pure cuteness and innocence.

"How did we meet? I think Aurora would remember!" She yelled, turning her gaze to Aurora.

"I have to tell that story too? Why am I always the storyteller?" She sighed.

"Because you're the one with the strongest memory!" Elliot chimed in.

"Well, it started when-"

——————

It was the end of the school year, and summer was on the horizon. The current class was swimming, a class that was rare and only happened once a year.

Girls whispered and squeeled at the sight of the jocks and popular guys, including that moron, Bryan.

And the guys? Well, they were busy staring at the girls, mostly me… such apes are what is wrong with this planet.

Every guy stared at me, except Elliot, who was staring at my face instead, which could be a side effect of his "interest".

A particular girl went to me and squealed, "You look so gorgeous!!!"

"What?" I asked, while confused, who is she…?

"I said you are gorgeous!" She said, "And I noticed that that guy stares at you a lot."

She pointed at Elliot, who was staring at my face just a second ago, but decided to look away to "avoid suspicion."

I looked at her dead in the eye, "Doesn't every guy do that?"

She nodded and giggled, "But that guy is different, he is someone who carefully chooses who he loves, which is also why he is always friendless."

"How do you know that?" I said, raising my eyebrow.

"Well, I'm his cousin, DUH." She sighed, like it was obvious, "You can call me Natalie."

"Aurora," I said, my tone was stoic like I didn't care, but I'm always happy to meet his family, they are nice!

"So, you are part of the nerdy family?" I asked, genuinely curious but mainly sarcastic.

"I am! But my parents are different from his." I listened as she explained, but my attention wavered, so I understood but didn't hear.

Apparently, his parents are nerds while hers are jocks, which is why Natalie is more energetic while Elliot is more intellectual.

After the swimming class, it was lunch, and I was eating my lunch, which consisted of an apple and a sandwich(I don't eat much).

"HEY!!" A voice jumpscared me from behind.

I turned around and saw Natalie. She didn't waste any time sitting down; she looked around and called Elliot over, who was alone at an empty table.

I would've said that this girl had no manners, but I am not going to think badly of Elliot's relative.

"Can I eat alone?" I sighed.

"No! We are a trio now!!" She giggled.

"Well, I'm okay with it, if Aurora's okay with it." Elliot said shyly, looking away… CUTE!

"I'm not…" I said, trying to keep my distance from this girl who is shifting closer to me.

"I have an idea! Why don't we go karaoke!!" She yelled, her good vibes could pollute the earth if it were physical.
