"Thanks, I'm heading back to rest now... you guys be careful on your way," Shinichi said, looking even more tired as he reached his front door.
"Okay, I'll come see you tomorrow," Ran said after giving him some instructions, then said goodbye and left.
On the way back, Ran was glum and in unusually low spirits. She had thought that with the four of them out together today, they would have had more fun than usual. But after the comparison, she felt even unhappier. However, she didn't say these things out loud, just kept them silently in her heart.
After digesting these unhappy emotions, Ran turned her head and asked, "Shiraishi-kun, are we going back to the agency for dinner tonight?"
Seeing that Ran was also tired today, Shiraishi E said, "Let's eat out. We can invite Detective Mouri along. It's nice to eat out occasionally."
"Okay, I'll call Dad now," Ran said, taking out her phone to call Kogoro Mouri. The call connected shortly after. She said softly, "Dad, are you free tonight? Let's go out for dinner... huh? You have a case and can't make it? That's a shame."
Hearing Ran's words, a thought flashed through Shiraishi E's mind: The Chairman's Daughter Kidnapping Case. Originally, this case would have been solved by Shinichi as Conan, but now Shinichi was at home sleeping. If he didn't intervene, that little girl, Akiko Tani, would probably be killed. The education Shiraishi E had received wouldn't allow him to do that. He could kill a thousand gang members without blinking an eye, but he couldn't accept an innocent little girl dying because of his inaction.
Shiraishi E immediately said, "Ask him where he is, we'll go and help. After we solve the case, we can all have dinner together."
Ran liked this suggestion. She nodded and said, "Dad, where are you? Shiraishi-kun and I will come over to help you. After we solve the case, we can have dinner together! Beika Park? Okay... we're not far from there, we'll head over now."
After getting the address, Shiraishi E and Ran quickened their pace and arrived at Beika Park. From a distance, they saw Kogoro Mouri, wreathed in smoke. Before Shiraishi E could speak, Ran persuaded, "Dad, just tell us about the case first! What if he really can help?"
Kogoro Mouri was a doting father. Seeing Ran say so, he explained the case. Shiraishi E listened; the whole process was no different from the case in the anime. The only difference was that without Conan there to give him hints, Kogoro Mouri was completely in the dark, with no idea how to solve it. He had come to the crime scene hoping to find a witness.
"Little Brother Mouri, you can't even solve this?" Shiraishi E looked at Kogoro Mouri teasingly and smiled. "I already know where the kidnapper is."
"Really?" The Mouri father and daughter were both shocked.
Kogoro Mouri asked anxiously, "Then where is the kidnapper?"
"Call me 'Big Brother' and I'll tell you!" Shiraishi E said with a grin.
"You!!" Kogoro Mouri's face changed. He didn't expect Shiraishi E to bring this up now. He gritted his teeth. "I already let you call me 'Little Brother Mouri,' isn't that enough?"
"Of course not!" Shiraishi E said bluntly. "You've lost to me in drinking so many times, and you still haven't called me 'Big Brother' once."
Hearing this, Ran became anxious. She felt the situation was urgent, the hostage's life was on the line, and this was no time for jokes! Just as she was about to say something, Kogoro Mouri spoke. He gritted his teeth and made a great resolution. "Fine, if I call you that, you'll tell me the kidnapper's location!"
"Of course! I'm not like you, I don't go back on my word!" Shiraishi E said solemnly.
"Alright, I trust you!" Kogoro Mouri took a deep breath, then turned to Ran. "Ran, you call him!"
"Huh?" Ran was stunned. How did this suddenly involve her?
Fearing that Shiraishi E would go back on his word, Kogoro Mouri said at lightning speed, "He didn't say I had to be the one to call him! Ran, you don't want to see your dad call someone your age 'Big Brother,' do you?"
"B-Big Brother!" Ran had no choice but to blush and call out to Shiraishi E in a clear voice. She was blushing out of shame for her father's actions.
"...When it comes to being shameless, you take the cake!" Shiraishi E looked at Kogoro Mouri with admiration. He had even found this loophole! He had chosen the wrong profession. Why be a police officer? He would have been a great lawyer! He might have even become the Kensuke Komikado of Beika. In the future, he might even face off against his wife in court.
"Cut the crap! Just say whether she called me or not!" Kogoro Mouri said shamelessly. "'Big Brother' has been called. Now hurry up and tell me where the kidnapper is!"
"Don't worry, I'm not you, I'll honor the deal... Let's talk as we walk!" Shiraishi E gestured for the Mouri father and daughter to follow as he headed towards Futabashi Middle School. On the way, he directly used Conan's deduction. Just like that, righteous and confident!

"Let's talk after we get there and find the kidnapper!" Kogoro Mouri said stubbornly. But he was secretly surprised. He hadn't expected the other to be skilled not only in karate but also so sharp-witted. To be honest, this made Kogoro Mouri very uncomfortable. He had thought they were brothers in misfortune, but it turned out the other was a master of both pen and sword. Sigh, it's hard to see your brother suffer, but it's even harder to see him drive a Land Rover!
With mixed feelings, Kogoro Mouri followed him to Futabashi Middle School and quietly approached the abandoned warehouse. Through the window, they could vaguely see someone inside.
