Blaise's eyes were on her back as she walked up the stairs, and they remained fixed on her until she disappeared into the room. It was only after he heard the loud bang of the door that he finally answered the call and brought it to his ears and the first thing he heard was Lyra's voice. Her voice was sharp and impatient, but laced with affection.
"Where are you?"
He sighed, running his fingers through his hair, already exhausted. "Why?"
"I'm at your workplace right now" she said, her tone shifting into one that was half-accusation, half-teasing. "They told me you left thirty minutes ago… for home"
"Yes" Blaise muttered, pressing his palm against his temple. "I had to go home for something important. I'm very busy right now."
There was a pause on the other end before she spoke again, her voice dipping into suspicion. "You went home? You never go home this early. You always come late at night. Sometimes you're with me after work… So why now? Did you go home to see your wife?"
