Seraphina's POV
My chest heaved as I pressed my back against the rough brick wall, trying to catch my breath.
God, how long had I been running?
My legs felt like jelly, and my lungs burned from sprinting through those winding streets packed with more people than I'd ever seen in my life.
I looked down at my dress. It was dusty, but not torn, thankfully. When I'd thrown myself out of that moving car like some kind of madwoman, I'd honestly expected to break something.
The scratches on my palms and knees stung, but they were nothing compared to the relief flooding through me.
I was free. Actually free from Adrian's hands.
I glanced around, taking in this strange new world with curious eyes. There were buildings everywhere, their glass reflecting the afternoon sun. Cars moved in orderly lines along smooth roads, and people walked past me, like they were all late for something.
