Leaning on the couch, I opened a book on aquatic mammals and began reading it. This guy has a weird taste. It looks like 'Rupert' liked animals and plants... a bit too much. His love for them was intense. There were a lot of photos of them.
Thanks to Demian's unexpected family trip, I have no work. At least for five days. It looks like Lady Luck has finally shined upon me.
"So, it's been two days," commented Lindy.
"Yes, it has been. Do you have any problem with that? Also, don't you have any work to do? Are you one of those 'loose' cops? You are a detective. Don't waste your time here."
Lindy rubbed her nose. She put a pile of documents on the table and said, "It's my lunch time. 2 PM is my lunch time. So, I decided to give you a surprise."
"It's rather unpleasant."
"Your house is the unpleasant one."
Why the heck is she insulting my house? Well, I know it's kind of small... and I haven't finished the renovations... yet.
I glared at her and asked, "Did you bring everything? Also, won't they notice Rupert's absence? Does he have family? Or, friends?"
"Of course. Now... you will talk. How convenient!" sassed Lindy.
"I believe we have to talk about this. We postponed it, but now we have to talk." Although, my throat still hurts a bit.
Lindy nodded and pushed the documents towards me. She said, "It has everything that you need. You can read it later. But if you want to talk, we can talk."
"Good. Will the cops be getting involved in this?" I asked.
Lindy shook her head and replied, "No, they won't be. My plan is to keep this under wraps for now."
"Why?"
"Because that's easier that way."
Her words are confusing me. I sat up straight and pointed my finger at her. "Do you think it will be better if no one knows about it? Judging from your look, you think they won't believe you. We have the proof! Lindy, just show them the body. And trust me, they will."
Lindy's face turned grim at my words. With a heavy tone, she said, "That's the problem."
"What 'problem?' Did something happen?"
Lindy replied, "You know that I had cleaned the room before you came down, right?" I nodded, "Rupert, or whatever that monster was called... his 'body' was... not there."
"What the fuck?!" I stood up in shock. I marched towards her and stood right in front of her. I asked, "You know what you are saying, right?"
Lindy nodded stiffly. She said, "There were some marks. Like someone had pulled the body out of the house."
"So, someone has the body?! Fuck!" This is very irresponsible and dangerous. Now, someone has the body... and I am pretty sure it's going to bite me in the ass.
Lindy scratched her jaw and grabbed my hand. Her eyes were a bit conflicted. She said, "I talked with my superiors about this. But... they just laughed at my face, and called me... a 'lunatic.' They even threatened me if I say anything to anyone about this... they will just fire me."
"So, you are just going to walk away?" I scoffed.
"No, I am with you. We are together in this. Whatever comes, I will be with you." Shaking her head, Lindy tightened her grip.
Conflicted, yet honest. Her eyes and words are at least, I guess. I removed her hand from my own and walked back to my seat.
"It's not a human."
"What makes you say that?" Lindy gave me a confusing look.
"Rupert hated humans. So, we can at least rule out this possibility," I answered. A person like him will never take the help of a human. He was a psychopath... a cannibal, who liked to eat humans.
"But it can't be monsters either. If it had been one, then it would have attacked us. We were completely vulnerable at that time."
"We were," I supplied.
I tapped my fingers on the table. Suddenly, something entered my mind. I asked, "Whoever the 'person' is, thought that there was no one in the house."
"But we were loud. There was no way they couldn't have heard us."
A blush crept to my face as I recalled the 'incident.' Composing myself, I said, "No, but I am sure they didn't have the courage to fight us. They must have been afraid."
"I think we will find out about this soon." Lindy's words were ominous. I could tell that she was very worried about this... and so was I.
"What about his family?" I asked.
"Dead. Killed by an accident. But if you ask me, he is the one who killed them. They 'disappeared' mysteriously in a trip."
"Any friends?"
"Not even one," Lindy replied.
"Is there any sort of evidence that makes him suspicious?" I asked.
"Not even one. That monster's record was too clean. Even the place where he kidnapped me from was a blind spot. The CCTV couldn't record it."
I clicked my tongue in annoyance. "What about his motive? Why was he at the party?"
"I don't know. But I have seen you talk to him. I saw his 'card' in your bag when I went to retrieve your things from the car."
I said, "Thanks for that. They had very important documents in them. But I had thrown Rupert's card. Where did you find it?"
"You hadn't thrown it out. It was under the brakes."
"Tch! I must have thrown it very 'poorly.' Maybe it was for the good that you found it." The card will certainly unveil some details.
"Well, thanks to you, I did find something about 'Rupert's' company."
"He wanted to do business with Demian, my boss. Is his company at least legit?"
Lindy nodded, "It is. But there is a twist."
"There was another 'Rupert,' right?"
"Yes, Rupert Danojogex. Apparently, he had complained that someone has been posing as him and doing some fake deals with other businessmen. I think that's 'Rupert Sanchez.' He was very cautious. The police were empty handed in terms of evidence. But to kidnap someone in the parking lot, where the chances of getting seen was high... he must had been very desperate."
"When you cleaned the house, did you find anything?"
Lindy replied, "Nothing, except a laptop... but it wasn't working."
"Do you have that laptop with you?"
"I have given it for repairing. There must be some leads in it. Judging by the damage on it, I would say that he tried to destroy it."
Sighing, I said, "We will wait then."
