Chapter 13 - Running and Fighting— 1

"Is your name really 'Rupert Sancez?' I am really feeling 'elevated' to meet you," I commented.

Rupert laughed at my words. He said, "You really shouldn't antagonize someone who is above you. If possible, you should worship me."

It seems he has a god-complex... or, should I say monster-complex? But honestly, I need him to reveal some more information.

"Why do you think humans are beneath you?" I asked.

Rupert snorted at my question. His eyes were full of disgust. Walking towards me, he stopped right in front of my face. My hands unconsciously tightened around the knife.

"You humans are disgusting! They destroy everything for their selfish interests. Trees, glaciers, animals... you name a thing, and you will find humans damaging them. You all are just gremlins on this beautiful earth. Humans should never have existed in the first place. Tch! Even I was once like you... but I evolved."

"You 'evolved?' How?" I asked him.

"Why should I tell you? You are going to my stomach. I don't discuss my past with my food," scoffed Rupert.

Fuck! I gripped the knife and raised it slightly. Suddenly, Rupert's hand shot towards me. Without wasting any time, I slashed his hand.

"It's futile." Rupert raised his hand, showing the place where I had slashed him... or tried to. There was a cut, alright... but no blood was coming out of his body. It had... coagulated.

"See?" Rupert mocked me.

Sweat beads formed all over my forehead, slowly trickling down my face as if indicating my remaining time in this world.

I threw the knife at him and ran. There is no way for me to kill this monster if he doesn't bleed. Truthfully, I haven't yet killed a human... but this 'monster' is not a human. I have a feeling that if I don't kill him, then I will be the one to die.

I closed the door and locked it from outside. Without any thought, I ran towards my car, only for me to stop immediately on my tracks. Rupert was sitting on top of my car, looking at his watch. He lifted his head and gave me a smile. He tapped on his watch twice and whispered, "Run."

The streets lights were flicking. Crickets were making quiet noises... before ultimately shutting up altogether. When the leaves stopped rustling.

Gritting my teeth, I dashed with all my strength.

Rupert let out a monstrous yell and ran after me. Loud thuds erupted into the air, indicating his enthusiasm in this 'prey-predator' chase.

Seeing a house enter my sight, I ran towards it. I banged on the door couple of times, before running away to the backyard. If I am correct, no one should be inside this house.

A gun. I fucking need a gun!

Suddenly, I found the garage was open... and a shotgun was hanging right in front of me.

"How convenient!" I hissed.

I grabbed the shotgun and looked for the bullets. Sure enough, I found them inside a drawer. But... there were only two bullets. Gritting my teeth, I loaded one bullet into the shotgun.

Now, I need a close-range shot. Bursting his skull into smithereens is the only option plausible.

Breaking the kitchen's glass, I broke into the house. I purposefully made sound, hoping to attract Rupert's attention.

He isn't slow, and he isn't giving me a chance. Establishing authority and superiority is his ultimate target. Good! Let him underestimate me. I just need a single shot.

I looked around the kitchen and found some syringes on the table. There were even some 'familiar' bottles on the table.

UFH.

Lots of them were just lying on the table. The owner must be a patient... or a chemist. I pocketed some of them into my pocket.

At that moment, I heard a crash. It looks like the monster has entered the house.

I took cover behind the table and aimed for him. The moment he entered my sight, I shot him. The recoil hurt my arms very badly. I almost dropped it from my hands, if not for my survival instincts.

What I expected was his head blown into smithereens, but it was still intact.

Rupert stood up from the ground and laughed.

"Your shot was good. Are your arms aching? Your body isn't made to use shotguns like that. To use the shotgun like that, only a trained individual can do that. It's fascinating on some level. Tell me, who are you?"

"No one for to be concerned. If you let me walk away with Lindy, I am more than willing to be out of your sight. I am not a hero. Rupert, I have no reason to interfere in your business. But Lindy is... a friend. Let us walk away, please."

"Alice, your words are tempting. Although, why would I let you walk away? You, of all people, can't do anything to me," mocked Rupert. He pointed at the hole in his forehead.

"I am sorry."

"Oh, don't be. I will kill you more slowly for this. More painfully."

"Then, give me another chance," I gritted out.

Rupert asked, "Why should I do that?"

"You like the thrill of chasing your victims, don't you? Besides, I have tried to fight you, haven't I? So, give me another chance to run away."

Rupert looked at me with an indescribable look in his eyes. With a snort, he said, "Fine. I am really also excited to see you try to run away. For an omega, you are really something else. Most of them cower and beg me for mercy. But I have to remind you something... 'Death' catches everyone."

I am sure he is referring to himself.

"Thank you."

"No need to thank me... just run."

Without saying anything further, I bolted from that house.
