Morris's POV
The moment I discovered Monica had gone to lunch with Colby, something primal stirred inside me. I wanted nothing more than to storm after them, plant my fist in his smug face, and whisk Monica away. But I couldn't. Colby had been painfully transparent when we spoke at Darren's residence. He promised to maintain distance, but made it clear that if things collapsed between Monica and me, he'd waste no time pursuing her. And true to his word, he'd seized the first opportunity.
Just as the women gathered every Tuesday for their so-called "book club," my circle of friends maintained our own ritual of conversation, drinks, and games. Darren had suggested the Social Club tonight, believing the vibrant atmosphere might elevate my somber mood.
