Chapter 24 - Chapter 24: Escape from Mexico City

The Hummer quickly exited the area controlled by the Mexican army, traveling unhindered. The Mexican officers didn't dare to inspect a U.S. military vehicle at such a sensitive time.

Parking the very conspicuous Hummer in an underground parking garage, the group took off their uniforms and changed into civilian clothes. Broly, with his very distinctive hairstyle, also put on a baseball cap.

They switched to another old Ford Crown Victoria. Matt planned to leave Mexico City via the highway first. Due to the serious unrest, dozens of countries had issued travel warnings to their citizens, advising them not to travel to Mexico in the near future.

Some citizens and tourists in Mexico City were also trying to leave the city by any means possible. The highway was already experiencing a traffic jam stretching over ten kilometers, with all vehicles moving at a snail's pace.

The old Crown Victoria blended into the traffic, inconspicuous.

Suddenly, a commotion erupted ahead on the highway. A line of M1A2SEPV3 Main Battle Tanks came from the opposite lane, followed by some M2A3 Infantry Fighting Vehicles. The rubber tracks slapped against the road, producing a deafening roar.

These high-speed steel behemoths were flaunting America's power without restraint.

"God bless America!"

Some Americans got out of their cars and waved frantically at the passing armored vehicles, while the remaining Mexicans watched with complex expressions.

Matt also leaned out, shouting with the convoy:

"God bless America!"

Alejandro's cheek muscles twitched.

"What's with that expression?"

Matt sat back in his seat and looked at Alejandro.

"Nothing, just remarking that you're a standard American."

Alejandro said.

"Business Is Business, I'm just completing the mission assigned to me by the higher-ups. I still love America."

Matt didn't care.

"If they knew Broly was in this car of yours, you, the patriot, would be riddled with holes in a second."

It took them about six hours to get out of Mexico City's range. After the traffic dispersed, the road suddenly became wider.

During this time, the radio continuously broadcasted the progress in Mexico City. The U.S. Army, looking like they were facing a formidable enemy, had gained nothing. The Green Goblin seemed to have evaporated from Mexico City, disappearing without a trace.

"If I were Filippoto, I'd be utterly desperate right now."

Matt said with a bit of helplessness.

Alejandro, Broly, and Wade were unwilling to leave just like that. Alejandro wanted revenge, Broly still wanted to complete the mission of destroying the Reyes Group, and Wade's reason was, "We're already here, let's go big."

In desperation, Matt decided to act with the three of them. His previous mission was to weaken and destroy the Reyes Group. The big shots in Washington had long been dissatisfied with the constant flow of drugs from the U.S.-Mexico border.

"Dealing with a cartel like the Reyes Group, it's almost impossible to completely eradicate them in the Mexican environment, but making them fall apart is much easier."

A cartel, an economic term, originally referred to an organization formed by a series of independent companies producing similar products to increase the price and control the output of that product. The most famous cartels are the OPEC, which controls oil trading, and the De Beers, which controls diamond trading.

When the cartel is associated with drugs, it's horrifying. Gangs united to control the production and price of drugs, evolving from street gangs into warlords and financial groups, and escalating the competition for territory and markets from fights and gunfights to full-scale wars. The Guadalajara Cartel was the earliest cartel.

They were like wolves, united for the sake of prey. The Reyes Brothers were the alpha wolves, possessing the strongest force and the most wealth.

"The Reyes Brothers have already left Mexico City, escaping, but they can't stay out of sight for long, or the gang leaders under them will start to lose control."

Those mid-level gang leaders couldn't wait to get rid of the Reyes Brothers and redistribute the trade profits of the Reyes Group, allowing them to easily get more money.

"Compared to the Reyes Brothers, their underlings, those gang bosses, are much more reckless and impulsive, and much easier to deal with. As long as these gang bosses get into a mess, the Reyes Brothers will have to come out to maintain their authority."

Matt said. Backed by the CIA, he knew the Reyes Group and the Mata Group inside and out.

In fact, he judged that even if they didn't act, Barlo Mata would take action against the Reyes Group, and even the breakthrough would be those gang leaders.

"Which target should we choose?"

Alejandro's eyes narrowed.

"Malacon of Juarez, how about it? He's one of Filippoto's most trusted friends."

Matt said.

Alejandro's hand trembled. Back when he was a prosecutor, he was ordered by Filippoto to have his wife and daughter killed because he was investigating Malacon's case.

"Very good!"

Alejandro smiled with a touch of melancholy. The journey from Mexico City to Juarez was nearly 1,800 kilometers, and Malacon was not actually the most suitable target.

The group constantly switched drivers, traveling day and night. It only took them a little over two days to reach the border city of Juarez. During this time, news from Mexico City kept coming in. Mexico City was still under martial law, and the official sources were very secretive about the Green Goblin's news, while rumors were flying everywhere.

Juarez, on the border between Mexico and Texas, is one of the most dangerous cities in the world. Not only are the Reyes Group and the Mata Group vying for this territory, but some small drug trafficking groups are also trying to take advantage of the situation. Because it's too easy to transport drugs to the United States from here.

"Now our problem is how to find Malacon."

Matt said. As a gang leader, Malacon had many enemies and was often targeted by assassins. Therefore, he had multiple hideouts, and few people knew where his residence was.

However, these gang leaders all had a fatal weakness: they needed someone with a public identity to launder money for them. The money from drug trafficking was counted in the billions, and this person couldn't be unknown. They must have a high status and own a large amount of assets.

He was about to reveal his plan when Broly, who was in the back seat, suddenly spoke.

"I have a way. Remember that plan I told you when I first found you?"

Broly said to Alejandro. He opened the luggage bag Alejandro had brought from the safe house and took out the Combat Power Detection Goggles and put them on.

As a gang leader, Malacon must have many bodyguards protecting him, and there might even be mutants. The city of Juarez isn't big. As long as they find the places where those armed personnel gather and check them one by one, they're sure to find Malacon's nest.
