Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: Deceiving the Heavens

At the military airport outside of Mexico City, C-17 Transport Aircraft were constantly landing, guided by the control tower. The behemoths, weighing over seventy tons, emerged from the cargo bays amid the roar of their gas turbine engines, assembling outside the airport.

The 1st Armored Division was the ace unit of the U.S. Army, with the most advanced M1A2 tanks, the M1A2 SEPV3, equipped with new ammunition (M829A4 and programmable airburst rounds) produced by Stark Industries, along with the corresponding ammunition data link, new thermal imagers, and new remote weapon stations, with a price tag of twenty million dollars each. Also present were M2A3 Infantry Fighting Vehicles, covered in reactive armor. Well-trained, fully armed elite infantry.

The armed forces gathered at the airport alone were enough to sweep across all of Mexico. If it weren't for the monster in Mexico City, which had seriously threatened the safety of the Mexican leaders, they would never have sought help from their northern neighbors.

After a brief rest, the vanguard began to move towards Mexico City.

During the flight, all the soldiers had already learned what kind of enemy they would be facing after entering Mexico City.

Brad Colbert, squad leader of the 1st Squad, 2nd Platoon, B Company, Reconnaissance Battalion, sat in the passenger seat of a military Humvee, holding an M4A1 rifle in his arms. He was an experienced, accurate, and taciturn junior officer.

"If you ask me, the battalion commander not only has throat cancer, but also his brain is occupied by cancer cells," said Corporal Josh Persson, a chatterbox, who was in the driver's seat. "He wants us to drive these Humvees, which would be shredded by a single beam from the Green Demon, into the city. Does he think the Department of Defense's compensation is too generous?"

"Our weapons can't even penetrate his skin!"

They had watched the video of Broly's battle with the Mexican army and, based on Broly's green energy, had given him the nickname "Green Demon," which quickly spread throughout the division.

Private First Class Harold James, in the back seat, suddenly said in a somewhat mysterious tone.

"You know, I heard Gell from A Company say that the Green Demon is actually a product of a secret military laboratory in Mexico City. He has a cousin who works in the military lab. Rumor has it that the military has captured a lot of mutants and wants to research the ultimate mutant weapon!"

Even Brad, who usually didn't participate in his subordinates' chatter, was interested in this topic.

"If the Green Demon is their product, then this experimental project has clearly succeeded. If the Green Demon can be mass-produced, we will be retired soon."

Josh gave the squad leader a look of disdain.

"Impossible. Stark Industries, the Pentagon, and our thirty-nine generals won't let this happen. If fifty Green Demons could maintain the security of the United States, then those bureaucrats would have to retire, and Stark Industries, which produces weapons for us, would also go bankrupt. They won't let this happen. Aren't we here to eliminate the Green Demon?"

Josh Persson's rambling made everyone in the vehicle dumbfounded.

The reconnaissance battalion soon arrived at the blockade set up by the Mexican army. The atmosphere immediately became tense; those Mexican soldiers had been frightened out of their wits by the Green Demon, hiding behind cover and not daring to show their faces, their eyes looking at them as if they were looking at dead men.

"These Mexicans have no morale at all."

Brad commented on his colleagues.

"If I had to drive those post-World War II jalopies to face the Green Demon, I'd be the same."

Josh said.

Soon, B Company entered the area where the battle had taken place. After a long time, there were still flames smoldering, and the air was filled with a pungent smell of tar. The atmosphere inside the Humvee immediately became tense. The AMX-VCI Infantry Fighting Vehicle, although old and dilapidated, had a weight of ten tons, and its defensive capabilities were not comparable to those of the lightweight military Humvees.

"A Company and C Company, organize defenses on the spot. B Company, search to the west. Report immediately if you find the Green Demon. The attack helicopter battalion will come to support immediately."

The battalion commander Fernando's somewhat hoarse voice sounded in the communication system. He had throat cancer, so his voice was very strange, like a lizard suddenly learning to speak English.

"Motherfucker!"

A string of curses erupted from B Company, because the company commanders of A Company and C Company had a lot of connections at the top, so the dirty work always fell to B Company.

The military Humvee was driving through the streets, some of the craters from the bombings were nearly two meters deep, destroying the entire road and forcing them to take detours.

Just as they were cautiously searching, a Humvee came from the opposite direction, driving in a very strange manner in the current Mexico City.

Brad, squinting to observe the surroundings, immediately opened his eyes vigilantly. Josh, the driver, immediately stopped the car in tacit understanding, the body of the car tilting slightly, blocking the path of the oncoming vehicle. After the front car stopped, the entire B Company slowly stopped.

"Which company are you from?"

Brad asked, his finger on the trigger, ready to fire at any moment. Although the license plate and model of this vehicle were all normal, he still felt that he should question it.

"TACP. Our transport plane had a problem when it landed, so we only arrived now."

Matt said casually, taking out a CAC Card from his wallet and handing it to Brad.

Brad took the CAC Card and checked the photo on it. The CAC Card was equivalent to a U.S. soldier's ID card, with a built-in chip, and could only be read by a special card reader. It also had the cardholder's photo, the institution they belonged to, their birthday, blood type, and the Department of Defense's welfare number and identification number. It was very difficult to forge.

TACP was the code for Air Force Forward Observers, who call in air support for the frontline companies during combat. To ensure the unity of the command chain, they are usually managed uniformly, distributed to the battalion during the operation, and then distributed to the various companies, and are not familiar with the members of the company.

Air Force Forward Observers, because they belong to the Air Force, but are assigned to frontline companies during combat, are one of the positions that are easiest to manipulate.

Brad glanced at the occupants of the Humvee, returned the CAC Card to Matt, and then gestured with his finger, signaling Josh to clear the road.

"Thank you for coming. We wouldn't dare to engage the Green Demon without air support."

Broly heard the conversation between the two and guessed that this so-called Green Demon should be referring to himself. He didn't expect that he had inexplicably stolen Norman Osborn's nickname.

Matt started the vehicle, driving against the direction of the convoy. The others in B Company, seeing that Brad had chosen to let them pass, didn't bother the vehicle anymore.

The vehicle's figure soon disappeared in the rearview mirror.

The voice of Captain Nate came from the walkie-talkie.

"Brad, what's with that vehicle?"

Brad picked up the walkie-talkie and replied:

"TACP, their plane had a problem when it landed, Over."

Josh started the car.

"Squad leader, do you think their identity is really TACP? Why are they in front of us?"

Brad shook his head.

"Mexico City is so big. It's normal for them to choose a different route and get ahead of us."

He suddenly had a feeling that this operation was likely to be fruitless.
