{Background development]
[I want to make it clear. This fanfiction has ALWAYS taken place in the SCP universe, if you dont know what SCP is then look it up. I dont want to explain it via writing. There are literally Thousands of videos on youtube, go see for yourself. Max does not know he is in the SCP universe, and ONLY believes he is in Poppy Playtime. He knows about the SCP universe, so yeah. Remember SCP HAS ALWAYS been part of the story. I made references throughout the earlier chapters :)
Third POV
Officer Whitaker looked at the two FBI agents, they were both Caucasian males with military style haircuts. One of the agents had a straight hair cut with a medium fade. The other agent had a high and tight haircut. They both had nice black suits, with red ties and that white undershirt. Whitaker didn't want to think it, but he had watched some movies and shows about top secret agents and these guys looked the part of it. It was a stupid thought Whitaker knew, but he couldn't help but think that maybe his commissioner was right about some of his crazy theories about the government.
The straight cut haircut agent walked up to them and said.
"Good Afternoon Gentleman my name is agent smith, and this is my partner agent brown. We are here to see if this case has any foul play in it."
"What do you mean by that?" asked Whitaker, he didn't know anything regarding foul play in this case. The local police branch kept a clean nose, he didn't know anyone on the force that was corrupt.
"Just standard protocol. This is a filed missing person report after all. We just want to make sure that this kid is safe and found." Agent Smith looked around a bit, and leaned in a little close to them and continued
"We got reports that this was a possible set up or something to discredit Dr.Emory. We want to make sure that isn't the case, awhile also making sure that a child wasn't used for….other purposes"
Whitaker didn't want to think about that kind of thing. He had a little girl at home, and couldn't imagine the idea…or thought of something…best not to think about it.
"Alright let's get this over with" Whitaker said.
It had been a long day interviewing them one by one but finally Officer Whitaker sighed as the last person to be interviewed came in. It was Dr. Emory, he was an older man who was known around the area as someone who was on the edge of retirement. The whole trip according to him was to be his last, and then he would move on. For obvious reasons that never happened, and he was the one that had led the search for both the child and the cave for months now.
He walked into the room, his gray hair was in a mess, and he looked like he hadn't slept in some time. Whitaker thought that it was most likely from the stress of not being able to prove anything, and the fact that the child was still out there. Or at least Emory believed the child was still out there.
Whitaker didn't think that there was anything out there and fully believed that the team had been part of some cruel prank. It wasn't any surprise that Emory had some rivals in the field. The cave had been known to have some carbon leaks that would cause someone to 'pass out' as for the photos those were easy to fake. Whitaker had been on the force for a decade now and known the kind of cruel and brutal crap people did somtimes.
So, if someone came by and told him that this was a cruel prank on the old man, he wouldn't even be shocked or surprised by it.
Emory walked his way towards the open chair in the room. It was just a single chair by a metal table, where on the other side were the two FBI agents with Whitaker and his partner by them.
Emory coughed and spoke.
"I told them everything I know, and what happened. I swear on my life. We have proof damnnit. That place, that child. He was THERE. I SAW it with my own eyes! I am not crazy! I am not crazy."
Whitaker felt sorry for the man, he couldn't imagine going from being well known good to well known bad. There had been many people out there that said this whole thing was a fake, and that only got worse as the months of searching passed and there had been nothing to show for it.
"We believe you Mr.Emory, our branch just wants to ensure that we cover all our bases." Said Agent Smith said with a smile before he continued speaking,
"Mr. Emory do you have a photo of the place, or the child? We would like to see it and would like to see the cave tomorrow at noon."
Emory looked excited that these people believed him, and frantically searched his pockets saying
"Yes, yes. I have it right here look see I am not crazy."
Emory handed the photo to agent Smith, who took the photo and studied it carefully in his hands. After about a minute he said.
"I can`t really make out the face, but the background looks like a town of some sorts maybe even something else. Here Brown take a look" Smith handed the photo to his partner who studied it just as carefully as Smith did himself.
"Emory I want you to look at this photo of the child Max Carter. I am sure you know him, he became famous after the talk show with Playtime."
"Yes. I know, I know. I haven't seen a picture of him myself, but my student has and had told me that the boy looked just like him."
"Here" Smith gave Emory a picture of Max. It was a picture of him talking to one of the TV show host. Whitaker only knew that because his daughter loved the toys he made. It hurt him to know but his baby girl had a crush on the boy. Just thinking about it made him angry and scared about the future with boys in her life.
"YES! This is the child we saw. I am certain of it. He was slightly different though."
"What do you mean by that?" Asked agent Brown this time, he had stopped looking at the photo in his hands, putting it down on the table near him.
"Well..he was wearing a robe. It was one of those…you..know…wizard robes. His hair was a mess and he had an odd looking bag on him. But, I know it was him. I have been good at faces my entire life. Never forgot a face, and I will never forget that one."
"Did he say anything to you? Or do anything strange?"
"Yes. I have told other…authorities about this but they haven't believed me."
"We believe you Emory continue your story"
"Well..he said that the place was dangerous, and that we shouldn't be there. We tried reasoning with him and talking to him, but he kept saying we didn't belong. After which I don't know how he did it but he took out a staff from his bag and…I don't know but he said some words in a language I don't even understand now. I couldn't repeat them even if I wanted to. After which I woke up in the cave with my team."
"Its 3 p.m. now, I know I said tomorrow but can you show us the cave now?"
"I certainly can."
THIRD POV
A few hours later.
Agent 'Smith' and Agent 'Brown' left the cave and said goodbye to the team that had escorted them there. When they got into the SUV, Smith looked at Brown and said.
"You get anything?"
Brown took out a small device and said.
"Yeah. Spatial anomaly reading. That was an entrance alright."
Smith sighed and said
"Shit..I took this assignment because I thought it was going to be something stupid. I mean come on it has been months of them searching with nothing to show for it. Not only that but the 'kid' isn't even part of anywhere near here. Fuck."
"Hey look 'Smith' you might have taken this assignment for 'easy' work, but I took it so that I could continue working my way to next promotion. I haven't failed a case yet, and don't plan on it. So please don't fucking ruin this for me. I already can't stand you working with you."
"Stick up the ass, calm down. I won't fuck up the report or anything. I say we call Mole Rats, my buddy over said that they were itching for something to do."
"We report back first, AND then we see what command says. Don't fuck this up for me."
"Fine, we report."
{ Note MTF Zeta-9 ("Mole Rats"): This unit focuses on investigating and containing anomalies in underground or enclosed areas, especially those with unusual topography or unstable space-time. I thought it was called 'Cave Dwellers' but was wrong. If this happens, PLEASE LET ME KNOW INTHE FUTURE. I want to be as accurate to SCP as possible]
