The old box fan in the corner of Genesis's childhood room rattled like it was on its last breath. The summer heat had turned her upstairs bedroom into a slow-cooked oven, but she didn't complain. Not tonight. Not when she knew it would be the last time she ever had to sleep under this roof.
She sat cross-legged on her bare twin mattress, scrolling through photos on her phone. Old ones. Birthday cookouts. Snow days. Her late Nana making her famous banana pudding. Genesis smiled faintly, then swiped one last time and locked the screen.
Tomorrow morning, she'd wake her family up and tell them she hit the Powerball for $1.6 billion. She practiced the line in her head again, making sure it didn't sound too wild. She couldn't risk them finding out about the 007 Get Wealthy System — her secret ticket out. They'd never believe it anyway. Nah, better to say she played on a whim, got the winning numbers, and cashed out.
"Lord, You really did that," she whispered, eyes drifting to the cracked ceiling. "Thank You, Jesus."
She wasn't about to let nobody call it luck. It was favor — unearned, undeserved, undeniable. And when she said her family was comin' with her? She meant everybody. Her mom, her three brothers, and her little niece and nephew. No one was getting left behind.
The next morning, the RV idled outside like something out of a movie. Not no regular RV either — this was custom-built: champagne gold exterior, touchscreen everything, hardwood floors, memory foam bunk beds, a marble kitchenette, built-in bathroom, full shower, and two recliner seats with back massagers. The whole jawn was crazy.
Genesis popped the side door open and called out, "Yo! Everybody outside now. We hittin' the road."
Her oldest brother, Malachi, stepped out first in a tank top and house slippers, squinting like he still wasn't fully awake. "We takin' this to the gas station or somethin'? What's goin' on?"
Genesis smirked. "We movin'."
Their mom, Sister Denise, came out next in her robe, holding her Bible under one arm like always. "Movin'? Girl, what you talkin' about? Where's your U-Haul?"
Genesis pointed behind her with her thumb. "No U-Haul. I bought the RV. And the land. And the houses. And the livestock. And everything on it." Everyone stared.
She let the silence stretch just long enough to make 'em lean in. Then she hit 'em with the punchline:
"I won the lottery. Not no lil scratch-off either. I'm talkin' billions, Ma."
Her mom blinked slow. "Billions? With a B?"
"Yup. Jesus said we was done with the struggle," she said, tapping her chest. "And I'm gonna steward this the right way. No flexin', no wild spendin'. We movin' to North Carolina. I got a villa-style farmhouse with land. We got enough acres for every last one of us to have our own home on the same property."
"You cappin'," her youngest brother Elijah said, jaw dropped.
Genesis just slid her phone open and showed them the digital deed. "Say less."
They hit I-95 by noon, cruising past the Welcome to Delaware sign with gospel music humming low through the Bluetooth speakers. Tasha Cobbs, Jonathan McReynolds, and Maverick City. The sun caught Genesis's hazel-green eyes in the side mirror as she drove, but her mind was on the road…and the future.
First stop was Wawa in Maryland.
"Y'all want food or y'all want snacks?" she asked, parking in the oversized lot.
"Snacks," Malachi said. "But get me a hoagie too, though."
They walked in like a low-key crew, hoodies up and shades on, but everybody turned when they stepped through. That RV outside made a statement, even if they didn't.
Genesis grabbed her usual: salt and vinegar chips, lemon water, and a protein bar. Her niece asked for candy. She got her a fruit bowl instead. Healthy habits, even on the road. That was her new life now — wealthy, wise, and walking in purpose.
By the time they crossed into Virginia, Elijah was knocked out in the recliner with his mouth wide open, drooling like a toddler. Denise was in the back, Bible open on her lap, whispering prayers under her breath. Genesis felt peace for the first time in a long time.
The System pinged silently in her head — a soft chime only she could hear.

She tapped the side of her temple, mentally filing the rewards away. The skills would come in handy soon. She already knew how to throw down in the kitchen, but this was about to elevate her cooking to chef's kiss status.
They reached North Carolina just after sundown, passing stretches of thick green trees and wide-open sky. Her new villa sat behind a wrought iron gate, flanked by weeping willows and lined with lantern lights leading up the gravel drive.
"Welcome home," Genesis whispered to herself.
The RV pulled into the roundabout in front of the main farmhouse, a massive Southern-style home painted creamy white with gold accents. Each family member would have their own guesthouse just up the hill.
Malachi whistled. "Sis…you wasn't playin'."
"Nope," Genesis said, hopping out the driver seat.
"Wait, are those actual goats over there?"
"And chickens," she grinned.
Her niece squealed and ran toward the garden. Denise stepped out last, walking slowly toward the front steps. She turned to Genesis
"I prayed for this. I didn't know how or when, but I knew God would make a way.
Genesis hugged her tightly. "He did, Ma. And He used me."
That night, after everyone had settled in, Genesis stood on the balcony of her new bedroom, looking up at the stars. The air smelled like honeysuckle and pine, a far cry from the Philly smog she'd grown up breathing.
She closed her eyes and whispered, "Thank You again, Jesus. I know this ain't about me — it's about what You gon' do through me. I'm ready now."
The System chimed again, barely audible.
