----------------------------------
After the incident that day, Naruto could feel that most of the class looked at him with fear. Even Sasuke Uchiha, who always wanted to pretend to be the cold guy, showed concern.
He didn't understand why they looked at him like that. The only thing he did that day was arrive late and learn to refine chakra with Iruka-sensei.
Unable to find the reason, he continued with his routine as usual: going to the river every morning and continuing to meditate in it, going to school, and practicing at home in the afternoon. The amount of chakra he could have in his Fountain Space grew a bit every day, but since he cast that Jutsu, he didn't want to try it again.
The pain he suffered that day was still on his mind. Maybe when he could cut all the seams at the same time, or when he got accustomed to it, he would try it again.
But these days, a different expectation filled his mind: Soon it would be his birthday, and he could ask a question to Ego, and Jiji would come to visit him.
"Hehe, I wonder if Jiji would bring cake? I need to show him that I know chakra now!"
Clenching his fists in excitement, he continued with the hard work. He spent those days doing it until the expected date arrived: Tomorrow would be his birthday, his 7.
Waking up in the morning before the sun rose, Naruto went to the bathroom to take a shower.
'I don't remember what time Jiji came in previous years. Wait, I can't remember that? Meh, anyways.'
Thinking randomly, Naruto put on his clothes and grabbed an instant ramen to eat. Doing all that, he took the book to his room and closed the door and the windows; no one needed to know what he was doing.
Sitting on his bed, he proceeded to open the book.
"Ego! Today it's my birthday!" with a bright smile, the kid talked to the book.
[Morning, Naruto. And happy birthday. Today is an important day. You need to continue celebrating it, okay? With your efforts, things will be better.]
"Thanks, Ego! I hope the same. I want to know what happened with the village people who hated me. Meh, can I ask you something? Or did I not meet the requirements?"
[Continue listening the things they say and try to search for what happened seven years ago, the day of your birthday. But not now; you can do it after your next birthday. And yes, you have two questions right now.]
"Why do I have to wait until next year? Is there a problem with something? Mm, okay, but you wouldn't stop me when the day arrives, right? Now tell me the question!"
[Yeah, there is a problem with that. After next year, I will recover a bit, and you could start seeking for that. No, I'm on your side whatever happens, Naruto.
Now for the questions, you have these.
- What's the difference between your chakra in the Fountain Space and the other that is dispersed through your body?
- Why were your classmates and teacher afraid when they saw you?
You can ask me the questions whenever you want, but only one time per year. If you discover the truth, I would erase the question and give you another chance.]
I will wait, but I hope you can help me when the time comes. I need to know the first one; these two feel so different and are so weird. And what are you talking about? Even Iruka-sensei was afraid? I didn't notice that."
[Yes, you can trust me. Your whole classroom was afraid of you, Naruto. I can't tell you the reason for each one, but I can tell you why they're afraid; this is connected with the reason the whole village hated you.
And give me a moment; I don't like rats listening in on us]
"Eh? Rats?" Naruto tilted his head, confused
He didn't notice it, but the moment Ego said that, a great barrier covered his whole house. The Anbu and Root who were always watching the kid were trapped, and a primordial fear filled their whole bodies.
Being trapped in that barrier wasn't the worst; they couldn't move or make any sound. But they understood something: they couldn't be near this kid, not as much as they usually were.
[That's better. You want to know the first question? Fine.
There were so many differences between these two types of energy. The first and most important is what has confused you so much. Your meditation gives you the chakra and a space-core to store and concentrate it. The other one didn't have any of these things; it only combined both types of basic energies and used them.
That's why it could disperse through the whole body; the consumption is slow, and performance is also low. On the other hand, most of them didn't know how to actively imbue their
Because of that, they don't need to do the tedious work of meditating and could do it with a thought.
Maybe you're thinking that it was completely useless since you have a stronger version. Yeah, but not at all. It's your energy too; just learn how to control it, and maybe later you could take that amount for your Meditation. It's much harder because the amount is massive compared to the other one.
And find a way to get food if you don't want to use the Jutsu to do it; you need to eat well.
Keep going, Naruto.]
Leaving the kid deep in his thoughts, Ego fell silent and stopped writing.
'So, that's the thing? It's an improved version because Ego helped me with that.' The things Ego said were important, but the most important of all was that it helped him somehow to get it.
'Mmm, how complicated... Well, just continue with the hard work. It's better, and that's enough.'
Cheered up, Naruto looked at the book.
"Thanks, Ego! I will strive to do it to show you!"
With the question answered and a new objective, Naruto was ready to go to school.
Saying goodbye to Ego and closing the door, he ran to school.
Feeling that the kid was gone, Ego dispelled the barrier, and the people who were trapped ran quickly. They didn't want to be there for another second. They needed to inform their bosses of this situation.
Without noticing all that, Naruto had arrived at school.
Seeing him enter, everyone could see that he was happy from the smile on his face. But no one approached to ask what had happened.
When everyone was in their seats, Iruka started the lesson.
"Morning, guys. There were three weeks left until the school year ended. Most of you had already managed to use chakra, but I hope you continue with the training after classes end.
Next year, we will begin with physical conditioning, and continuing your training is key to completing it. The only thing you need to do is eat well to avoid hurting your body.
The other thing is, the school will be closed until next year, the day after the last day of classes. Does anyone have a question?"
"Iruka-sensei, when can we start to learn Jutsus?" The person who asked the question was a pink-haired girl, Sakura.
The other kids pricked up their ears to listen.
Everyone wanted to become a ninja for that reason: to learn Jutsus.
"I think in your fourth or fifth year. Before that, we need to concentrate on the basics. You didn't even know how to use your body to fight. If that's all, we can continue in the gym. There is nothing more that I needed to teach you, so you can either go play or continue training."
"Yay!" Most of the kids cheered up; they were tired of doing the same every day. Even some of the kids from clans wanted to play.
But there were some of them who followed Iruka to training: Sasuke, Ino, Shino, Choji, Kiba, and no one expected the last one: Shikamaru.
'Why did this lazy man want to train? Did someone hit him?'
Since the last incident, Iruka wouldn't take the kids to the gym; he didn't want to repeat the same situation. But it seemed that the kids felt motivated, well, something like that. As long as they put in the effort to train, it was a good thing.
Naruto also followed them and took a seat to the side. Remembering the things Ego had said to him, he wanted to train the weak chakra to control it. How hard would it be? That was what he thought.
But reality slapped him in the face.
'Why was this thing so hard to use? It was always moving out of my control.'
The morning passed, and the class ended, but he couldn't make any progress.
'This can't be. I need to ask Ego why this is happening.'
Leaving school deep in thought, Naruto arrived at home.
Opening the door, he noticed a pair of shoes to the side.
'A thief?! No, these are Jiji's shoes!'
With excitement on his face, he went to the living room and saw it.
Jiji was sitting and looking everywhere as if he was seeking something. Feeling that the kid had returned home, he stopped and turned his gaze to him.
"Jiji!"
"Hello, Naruto. How were you doing? I remembered that today is your birthday," Hiruzen replied with a kind smile.
"Mm! I was waiting for you! You brought me a gift?"
"Aha, I brought this cake and some pieces of Limited Instant Ramen. I knew that you loved it, so I had been searching for them these days." Saying that, he took a box from his bag for the cake and another for the ramen.
"Hehe, thank you, Jiji. Let me cut the cake!"
"Go ahead, it's all yours." Making a sign, he took a step back.
Seeing the kid light the candles and make a wish with his eyes closed, Hiruzen had a smile on his face. He knew what the kid had wished for.
What's the wish of a kid who is rejected by all people? He probably wanted to be accepted by them, and that's fine. That's how things should work; the kid needed to integrate with the village.
"Ready, Naruto?"
"Mm! Take this, Jiji." The kid offered a slice to the old man and started eating.
"Thank you."
Both of them ate in silence, but the smile didn't abandon the kid's face.
Hiruzen started to ask him about school and how things were doing. Naruto told him that now he was among the top five, and next year he would be looking for the first spot. When the conversation went to the things he learned from Ethics Class, the questions became more specific.
"I'm glad that you're doing well in school, Naruto. What are the things they taught you about Ethics?" Leading the conversation, Hiruzen asked the kid.
"Ethics? Mmm, they teach us about the Will of Fire every day and how we belong to the village."
'Good, they are teaching the important things.'
"And what do you think about that?"
"Me? I think it's fine."
Hiruzen nodded, satisfied with Naruto's answer.
"What else?"
"Ah! To honor those who have protected the village, and they also teach us about the former Hokages! Iruka-sensei told us that you are the strongest of them! Is that true, Jiji?"
"Hoho, I'm not as powerful as my master or the First Hokage." Hiruzen dismissed the question "Knowing that, is there a question you wanted to ask me?"
"Aha, Iruka-sensei only mentioned three Hokages... But on the Hokage's Rock, I can see that there were four of them." Looking into Hiruzen's eyes, he asked, "He wasn't a Hokage? His face was after yours, Jiji."
Hiruzen didn't expect the kid to be so observant, no one has mentioned the Fourth again in his presence.
'Damn it'
Irritated, he turned his gaze on the kid.
"You don't need to know about that, Naruto. I'm the Third and acting Hokage."
"Why not, Jiji?" Naruto tilt his head confused.
"That doesn't matter. Just continue studying at school." Hiruzen put more strength in his voice.
"...Okay."
Hiruzen's face turned serious. "And, do you have something to tell me?"
"Eh? No, I was only at school and training, Jiji."
"Are you sure?" Looking directly into Naruto's eyes, he asked again.
"...Yes."
"Ok, if that's all, I'm leaving."
"...Okay, Jiji. Take care, bye."
Seeing the old man leave the house, Naruto stood in his seat.
'What was that? Why Jiji looked at me like that?
With a heaving chest, he repeated those questions. He didn't look bad; when Hiruzen asked the last questions, he could see that in his eyes was another feeling: suspicion and caution.
He couldn't understand it. Those were the same eyes the people in the village had when they looked at him.
'This isn't how it was supposed tobe'
He didn't know what he did wrong; he just stayed at home for a while in the morning with Ego, and then he went to school.
With the joy of his birthday dissolved, Naruto threw himself onto the sofa and took Ego in his arms, hugging it.
The soft cry of the kid echoed in the house, and tears stained the cushion.
Naruto received another dose of reality.

The moment Hiruzen left the house, he ran fast to the Hokage's building. But he couldn't stop thinking about the things that had happened that morning.
It only took him a few seconds to arrive and enter his office. Making a sign, he called the Anbu group from the basement.
A few minutes later, a group of masked men appeared in front of him.
"How was the former group doing?"
"Hokage-sama, they couldn't recover from that. The mere thought of being near the kid scared them enough to lose all will. They need to be moved."
Hearing that, Hiruzen was lost in thought.
How terrifying was what they saw? Everyone had special training to deal with situations like this, but it was the first time this had happened.
The room fell silent.
After thinking enough about that, Hiruzen gave them another order.
"Fine, just move them out of the village. Form a group to keep watching him, but use beasts or tools to do it. Don't approach him; if there's an anomaly, inform me."
"Understood, Hokage-sama." The group dispersed and went back to the basement.
Hiruzen didn't say anything after that.
'What really happened? Was there someone who had an eye on him? At first, I thought it was the Nine-Tails' chakra. But it wasn't; even that beast didn't feel like that.
Sigh, in the actual world, there's no one who could make me feel like this.
Hiruzen couldn't stop thinking about it, and he knew that soon someone would appear in his office.
He was waiting for him.
Like a breeze of fresh air, a man with an eye and an arm covered in bandages appeared in front of him.
No one said a word. Both of them waited until the other asked first.
The man with the bandages showed that he had more patience.
"Why are you here, Danzo?"
"You know why I am here, Hiruzen. I also felt it."
"So? What do you want to do?"
"Nothing. You know that I wouldn't lay a hand on that kid."
No one replied.
"...So? You haven't shown much these days. Why did you come to my office?"
"As I told you before, you know why. I trusted you with that kid; don't screw things up."
"Danzo, you don't have the right to talk to me like that.
"Stop the act, Hiruzen. The price we paid to have that thing was too big, and we can't risk it again."
"..."
"That was all I had to tell you. Take care, Hiruzen."
Danzo disappeared just as he had appeared in the first place: like the wind.
Hiruzen didn't do anything to stop him, it was his friend. They were in the same boat.
"Sigh... I hope nothing else happens."
With a worried face, Hiruzen looked at Naruto's house.
No one could know about that.
Not even his disciple.

Days continued passing without any disturbance.
Some days after the incident, Naruto finally recovered and continued with his training. He asked Ego why he couldn't control that chakra.
Hey, Ego. Even now I'm having problems controlling this. Are you sure I can use this to improve?
Ego moved himself in front of Naruto and started writing.
'[Yes, but only if you know how to control it. Try to see deeper; you are still doing things as the others, but that wouldn't work with you. Look deeper and control the part that is yours.]
"Deeper? Like when I'm meditating?" With that thought in mind, he started to do it again, but this time he ignored the Fountain Space and concentrated his attention on the blue chakra.
This time, he noticed that in the deepest part, there were two mixed energies.
'What is this?' He didn't know how this energy was in his body, but he could feel it: This energy didn't belong to him.
"Ego, why do I have another thing in my body? Is this what you are talking about?"
[Yes, now that you know about it, you can continue. The next step is recognizing what part of that is yours and separating it. Cheer up; it will be difficult.]
"Mmm. Okay, I think this will be my next training" He started his training to control chakra.
After a few weeks, school ended, and the first year of school was done.
It was time for vacations.
When the vacations began, Naruto still ate Instant Ramen, but every day that passed, he felt weaker.
He noticed that for the last month, Jiji hadn't been coming to visit as often, and only left a small amount of instant ramen. He couldn't survive with that.
So, against his will, he used the Transformation Jutsu again and went to a supermarket to buy something to eat. With a jacket covering his face, he left the money and took the things. Without waiting for the seller to count the money, he left the place running.
15 minutes later, at home, he finally could cut all the seams. It was faster, but the pain wasn't any less.
"Huff... Seriously, I hate those bastards... Why do I need to sneak in to buy food?!" Grinding his teeth, he went to the kitchen to prepare dinner.
"At least I bought enough for some weeks..."
Comforting himself in that way, he began to eat.
The training to control his own chakra consumed so much energy, but now he could separate a small part and control it.
He continued with his training until the next school year began.
-----|-------|-------|------|-------|-----
Naruto's birthday and the parallelism between Hiruzen and Ego. I made the explanation about the differences between chakras more complete, to provide a reason why he could change his body with a simple Jutsu like the Transformation.
This time, I didn't disparage the normal chakra at all. It only states that it's far more difficult to reach the same level as the other one because the learning range is almost zero.
The questions Hiruzen asked Naruto had a purpose. I didn't think in the canon Naruto wanted to be the Hokage from day one. Hiruzen would induce that wish in him during his school years.
As a kid, he didn't know most things, but he knew far more than others in one thing: attitude.
ll of his memories were about people who despised or hurt him. So, he surely could feel when someone had a change in their attitude towards him, especially with his monstrous talent in perception.
He would take his time to control his own chakra, separated from Kurama's. He is only a kid, and he didn't know as much as the canon does when he was 12-13 years old. But he would do it faster.
