Sasuke's House – Mikoto's Room
9:00 a.m.
Mikoto finally awoke after the last argument.
She had been on the bed for almost 15 hours in a row. Waking up after that argument felt horrible. Her body felt weak, and her mind was a disaster. She tried to sit up and make sense of her situation.
Looking inside her body, she saw it, most of her chakra reserve was empty. The chakra depletion made her unable to use the simplest method to recover. Realizing it, she got up and went to the bathroom. As she reached to wash her face, she noticed something.
Using her perception to feel it, she saw the inner. There was an abnormal situation on her eyes, like she had internal injuries. Blood stains could be seen on her face, mostly near her eyes.
'Blood... It's the same as those times... Why blood?' I don't remember what happened on those occasions. Why can't I remember? This has been happening since I got the three magatamas for a while...
Mikoto felt confused about the things that were happening to her. Her eyes would itch a bit when she got too emotional; she used to think it was because of her blood, but that wasn't the case. Something about her was different from the others.
The conversations she had with her son and husband had changed everything. There were so many things that even now both of them hide from her.
Trying to calm herself, she went downstairs and got a glass of water.
Then she noticed it. All the furniture she had destroyed in the last few days wasn't in the house; someone had taken it and put in new ones.
Fugaku... Stupid imbecile...
Only the thought of him was enough to make her mad. All the problems had begun with him.
Itachi hasn't returned since our conversation... I have a bad feeling.
She didn't know why, but the thought that something was wrong wouldn't leave her mind.
Ego was right—this is a fucking den of madmen.
She had denied it, but after all the things she had seen in the last month, she couldn't continue like that.
I need to go to Izumi. Ego had a reason for mentioning her.
She recognized her; she was her eldest son's only friend.
Thinking about that, she made a decision. She took the things she thought she might need for the next steps.
After doing that, she took a shower and went to Izumi's house.
Mikoto kept thinking about the things she was going to say to her. The age gap was too big, after all.
With confusion but determination, she knocked on the door.
A voice that could only belong to a girl in puberty.
When the door was opened, she could see her.
She was wearing clothes for cleaning, with her hair tied up.
A pretty face with long hair; she wasn't tall, but Mikoto could see that she would be a beautiful woman.
But not yet; for now, she was a cute girl.
"Mikoto-sama? Come." Showing a sweet smile, she guided her to the inside. " Take a seat, Mikoto-sama. I'm almost done, wait me a minute."
Mikoto smiled and obeyed. "Okay, Izumi. What a pretty girl you are."
Izumi was happy to hear her words; she liked being called cute by the person she admired. "Hehe, it won't take long."
15 minutes later, she finally finished cleaning the house and changed into a long-sleeved shirt and grey pants.
Offering her a lemon drink, Izumi takes a seat in front of her. "It's been a while since you came to visit me, Mikoto-sama."
Receiving the glass, she took a sip, and the bit of acid in the drink made her feel better. "Aha, thank you, Izumi. I've been busy taking care of Sasuke now that Itachi is grown."
Hearing "Itachi" her eyes shine. "Mm, it's been a while since I've heard anything from him."
Mikoto knew that Izumi likes her son, but now? Seeing the girl in front of her call that ungrateful with affection made her mad.
She asked tentatively "Ah, yes. He returned a few days ago, didn't he visit you?"
Shaking her head, Izumi said in a discouraged voice. "No, If you didn't tell me that he came back recently I wouldn't know it. It's been almost a year since the last time we talked."
Seeing the girl in that state, she changed the conversation. "...I didn't know what he was doing all this time; can you tell me about the things you two talked about?"
Now this was something she liked to talk about.
With a smile she replied happily. "Sure! The last time we spoke was in the first days of the year. He talked to me about his missions and how he continued serving the village." Shaking her head, she continued. "But he didn't tell me more, I didn't know about the things he was doing."
No one knew what he was doing? Mikoto asked again. "No? And on other occasions?"
She lowered her shoulders in discouragement. "Neither, he never told me what he was doing; but ever since he returned from his first missions, he always was talking about one thing.
Mikoto had a bad feeling. "About what?
"The Will of Fire, he seemed so captivated by that. Isn't it cute, Mikoto-sama?
Mikoto didn't know what to think after hearing that. CUTE? How cute could be a will that only seeks how to burn us?!
Trying to contain her discomfort, she asked again. "I guess...did he say anything else about that?"
"Mm, he always used to say that we had to live with the village to be accepted. Hehe, he said it all the time when we were in the clan with the other kids." Izumi paused for a moment. "But since he joined the ANBU, he stopped talking to me and the others. Do you know what he is doing, Mikoto-sama?"
Mikoto shook her head and replied."No, I asked you because he didn't tell me what he is doing"
Hearing that, Izumi was disappointed but she recovered in a blink of an eye. "Oh... It's okay, we need to trust him! Is there anything else, Mikoto-sama?"
"No, Izumi. Thank you for speaking with me. If you'll excuse me."
Waving her hand, Izumi stayed in the door until Mikoto disappeared. "Okay, take care, Mikoto-sama. You can come whenever you want!"
Leaving the house, Mikoto had even more things to complain about. That damn Will of Fire again... Live with the village? Isn't he really saying 'for' the village?
Walking around the clan, she continued thinking about that.
I think I know why Ego told me to seek for Izumi... She's in love with Itachi...
It's impossible not to notice it-and that's the worst part. Itachi knew it, but he kept things hidden even from her. He didn't feel the same way.
Fell in love? Oh no... don't tell me...
She wanted to deny it, but she couldn't. She wanted to deny it, but she couldn't. The stronger the bonds, the sharper the pain when they break.
I need to talk to Ikki.
With a clear objective in mind, she started to walk through the streets of the clan.
After a few minutes, she left the clan. Ikki had stayed here ever since the war ended-even though he was one of its heroes.
Approaching and knocking on the door, she heard a voice from inside.
"Come in, Mikoto-sama. I'm in the courtyard"
He was waiting for me?
With such thought on her mind, she entered the house and went to the courtyard.
She saw him- he was sunbathing in sunglasses.
She felt annoyed seeing him in that state. "What are you supposed to do, Ikki?"
"I'm taking a sunbath, Mikoto-sama."
Taking a deep breath, she asked again. "I can see that, but- why?"
He looked at her as if he couldn't believe that she didn't know the reason."Oh, it's obvious."
"It is?"
Ikki replied with a solemn expression."Yes, Mikoto-sama. Since the day of our death is near every day, I wanted to conserve my body in a perfect condition."
Mikoto didn't expect that. "In a perfect condition? Why?"
Listening to her doubt, Ikki speaks with a pious expression. Mikoto felt a bit nervous seeing him like that.
"Because I want to give myself to Mother Earth in the best way."
"... Do you want me to help you with that?"
He waved his hands to reject her offer. "No, no, Mikoto-sama. I must die by Death's hand if I wish to be accepted by Mother Earth."
She said involuntarily. "Sigh... I really don't know how I managed to put up with you all these years..."
Ikki fell in silence for a moment hearing that, then replied with a smile. "...So, you remember now, Boss."
"No, I can't remember everything. I just remember you were on my team in both wars."
He froze for a moment as he understood. "I see. Do you want to talk about it?"
"...Sure."
"Take a seat, this will take a while."
She sat beside him, waiting for him to speak.
"It's been a long time since we talked like this, Mikoto-sama."
"Yeah, since we left the battlefield."
"Mm, surely it's been a long time. Well, just start from scratch.
I'd been on the battlefield for a while and had completed enough missions to be reassigned to another district, away from the front lines. But I refused. I was the last surviving member of my team. I didn't want to walk away and abandon the battlefield after all we'd been through.
Then I met you during the war. You were just twelve.
I had already heard about your exploits and the nicknames everyone gave you. The Cursed girl- 'Sen no Himei' I thought they were just exaggerating the rumors to boost morale.
He stared into her eyes before continuing.
"But they weren't. The rumors were actually conservative.
You didn't say a word. You just stared into the void, waiting for the next mission. That was when I decided to follow you.
Our journey in the battlefield began at that moment. Our first mission was to infiltrate in the rear of the enemy ranks. I thought that it would be an easy mission, at first it was.
The trouble came later, when we needed to retreat. When everyone was returned through a hidden path, you stayed in the field. I asked why no one tried to stop you. They just kept going, as if nothing had happened.
'Don't get involved with that… thing'... 'thing?' I wondered. Why did they call you like that? With those thoughts in mind, I stayed behind, waiting for you. I needed to see what you'd do.
Then I saw them—your eyes. Three magatamas. A feat that less than 15 persons from the clan reached at that time. And… you had them, just being thirteen. Do you know how I felt at that moment, Mikoto-sama?
Mikoto asked with doubt, she didn't remember at all. "You were...amazed?"
Ikki shook his head, his gaze filled with pity. "No… I was terrified. What must a kid go through to reach that level? The gap between us was just five years, but I only had two magatama and were recently reached. The next thing you did makes me realize why they call you 'Sen no Himei'.
You fought with illusions and chakrams, harvesting lives until the screams of your victims fell silent.
You did it all in silence. And when you were done, you just stared at me. I saw a hint of grey in your eyes. I thought maybe something was wrong… but I said nothing. I simply gestured for you to follow.
We continued like that for almost three years. I learned to cover your back and tried to help you." He paused for a moment and continued with a proud expression.
But the scars kept appearing, not on you of course. I did a great job, don't you think, Mikoto-sama?"
Mikoto felt conflicted. She began to recall the memories she'd tried to forget. "…So that's why."
"Aha, we did a great job together. Then people started calling you Aka-Dōji. I never asked why. We continued like that for almost two years, saying nothing to each other—just going together.
Every mission ended with the enemy dead. No one else went on missions with us.
One day, when we returned from a mission, the clan informed us the war had ended, and we were to return. That news was like hearing thunder, we didn't notice the situation. All we did was take missions and kill the enemy.
There were no farewells; we simply went our separate ways.
I rested at home, doing nothing but sunbathing every day. As far as I know, you started tending a garden.
No one seeks for the other. Not until the Third War began ten years later. I didn't know what happened in that years, but I saw that you had a son, I didn't ask what happened.
The moment the war began, and all the ninjas were called, I appeared in front of your door. Waiting for you.
As before, we continued going on missions.
It was the same as before, I covered your back and helped you bandage your wounds.
One day, you simply told me it was your birthday. We were on the battlefield, surrounded by corpses. Those were the first words you'd said to me; I didn't expect it, but you went on.
You told me the things that happened in your home. Your parents went to the battlefield and how in that moment you thought that it was just another mission. How you got used to it, until your father died. The relationship with your mother goes worse, and how guilty you felt didn't know how to fix it. How you kept the hope that with time would get better.
I wanted to ask what had happened with your mother, but I couldn't. You kept talking, ignoring what I was thinking. You told me how your mother beat you, and how you learned to deal with it by keeping silent. The only thing in my mind at that moment was 'Oh no, what the hell is this?...
Your relationship with your mother got worse, she beat you, and you couldn't even sleep properly. You stopped talking for a while, maybe thirty minutes; I don't remember.
The next thing you said was,
'She killed herself in front of me.'
I was stunned. I couldn't believe what you'd said, but your expression didn't lie.
You saw the whole thing- and awakened your Sharingan afterward.
You didn't drop a tear, as if the things you said were nothing important. But I did, I couldn't help but cry hearing your story. You looked at me with a confused expression. I kept silent and continued to follow you after that.
You know, Boss? The grey in your eyes was more evident, but it wasn't like blindness.
I didn't notice it at that moment, because every time we went on a mission, I was looking at your back.
Continuing like that, one day we were ambushed. Many enemy teams were surrounding us from all directions.
You could resist without any problem, but I couldn't. Even though I was also three magatama, the gap between us didn't narrow. I was exhausted and waiting for my imminent death, but I didn't want that fate for you. I shouted for you to run, but you didn't.
You turned to me and I could see it. Your eyes were different from any other. That wasn't a normal sharingan.
Your pupils were a mix of black and grey. A beautiful Myosotis pattern adorned your eyes, and in the center of your pupil a void can be seen, trying to drag the petals inside. You gave a small smile and said "Don't worry—it will be fast."
As you said that, a giant grey skeletal torso began to take shape. No one understood what was happening, but everyone knew that it was dangerous. They started to attack us, and you kept standing there.
The moment the skeleton takes form and grabs its weapons; you began to kill them. I watched the whole battle, how you easily massacre the entire field.
You gain the nickname Flower of the battlefield and you never showed your eyes again.
The battle ended, and we returned to camp. Time passed, and a year and a half later, the war ended again.
When we return to the clan, I thought that it would be the same and both of us will take separate ways, but not this time.
You called me and you told me something I didn't understand at the time.
Ikki, I think this is our farewell. I won't be the same starting tomorrow. Thank you for these years. You were the only one who stayed with me.
In that moment I felt cold. Why did you tell me that? I tried to ask, but you just answered me with a smile and left. I stood in the same place, staring at your back.I wanted to know what you meant, but you didn't explain. I went home, confused.
Tomorrow arrived and I noticed it: you were talking with others-smiling with them.
I tried to ask you. You turned at me with a confused gaze. Do you need something? yo asked-polite, like a stranger.
Then I understood. You'd done something to your eyes—the grey had disappeared, replaced by ordinary eyes, like everyone else's. I walked away and never appeared before you again-until now."
Ikki paused, watching Mikoto's eyes change again. Her whole demeanor shifted.
He asked her with a smile, a smile of joy. "You remember now, Boss?"
Placing a hand on his chin, she replied. "...Yeah. It's been a long time, Ikki."
Nodding to her, he asked. "Uhum, it's been a long time. Now that your eyes have recovered, can you see your hands?"
"I've already seen them."
"So, the decision is made. Do you want me to help with anything?"
She smiled "Yes. Cover my back again, please."
Hearing that, Ikki has happiness drawn on his whole face. "Of course, boss! You can count on me!" He assured her.
"But now... we need to stop our conversation here. They've started to move."
With that, they turned their gaze toward the clan.
Night began.

Izumi is in love with Itachi—the one who, in canon, killed her without hesitation.
Mikoto has the Mangekyo but is unable to use it. I know it's an exaggerated buff, but it's fine.
Ikki follows her, acting as her shield.
The nicknames I gave her are common, but they fit her.
"The Cursed Girl" because her parents died, and her mother killed herself in front of her. Ikki didn't mention it, but every team she was on was killed.
"Aka-Dōji" is a combination of concepts of Japanese folklore. In folklore contexts, it implies a supernatural or demonic youngster associated with violence and foreboding. A girl who was raised with love but who lost all and became only a weapon, unable to control her power.
"Sen no Himei" for her use of illusions to kill her enemies, making their cries of agony echo across the battlefield.
Ikki is willing to follow again.
Next ch will be the last of this act.
I don't know if most of you like the image I tried to make for Mikoto. The fact that she has amnesia is something I think fits her. Everyone who passed through two wars can't be normal.
She "remember" ikki in the present because she had a disorder images of a her past. Anyone who goes through traumas again and again will awakened the Mangekyo.
Mikoto was 11 when she got to the war and met Ikki when she was 12. The third war ended with her being 15 yo and 10 years later she was 25yo. Itachi was 2 years old at that moment, the war ended three years later.
