----------------------------------

Next day in the morning.

Arriving at the field near the river, Naruto noticed that Maito Gai was already exercising. The sun isn't even rising at this moment, but the ground is already filled with sweat.

How long has he been here?

"Morning, sir."

Stopping for a moment, Maito Gai greeted Naruto and took a sip of water. "Ah, morning, Naruto. It's a new day, eh."

Looking at the pool of sweat on the ground, he couldn't help but ask for that. "Mm, sir. How long have you been here?"

"Approximately one hour. Since you're here, want to run for a while?" Giving an invitation, he put on his jacket and went out into the street.

"Mm!"

"Then let 's go!"

Naruto followed him, he didn't know how to get closer to him. Meanwhile he will run with him. It's better than doing it alone.

Running with him felt different, even just the accompaniment of another person made things better.

Isn't the same as Hinata, now he had become friends with her but that was only at school; when the lessons ended both of them went to their homes and she didn't get out again.

The oppressive feel the street gave him was dispersed a bit and felt much lighter. Naruto didn't notice that he had a smile and his expression was softer.

He didn't but Maito Gai did, this is the first time since his father died, and his best friend suffered that tragic event that he ran with another person.

Even if is only a kid, that makes the youth between them stronger.

This isn't bad. But this kid surely has a lot of things on his mind.

Time passed quickly and they were running for almost an hour. Maito Gai didn't run at his max capacity and wanted to help the kid.

When the clock was near 6:30 they stopped.

Naruto could feel it. Running with another person surely needs a lot of effort but it feels better. His body felt tired, but he didn't complain about it.

Panting heavily he noticed that they were again in the field, recognizing the familiar place he looked for a seat

Watching the kid in such a state Maito Gai gave him a bottle of water.

"Here, take this. It's important to stay hydrated."

"Thank youu." Opening the bottle, he took a thirsty sip

"Huff, this is the first time I feel sooo tired." Lying down in a seat, Naruto feels much better.

"Hahah, that's how it would be, Naruto. Come, we need to eat something after that."

Hearing that, Naruto fell silent for a moment and nodded.

They walked to a bigger street, where open food stalls could be seen.

Some people were already on the streets, ready to start work today. Naruto usually didn't pass through this street.

Some villagers who were talking stopped their conversations and stood on the sides, watching him. It wasn't the first time this happened but going through. The same situation with his master really felt awkward.

What is happening? Why do they see this kid like that? Maito Gai was really confused.

Taking Maito Gai's hand and guiding him to another less crowded place, Naruto remained in silence.

When he was sure that no one was watching them, he gave him a bitter smile.

"Sir... Thank you for accompanying me. You can go and eat by yourself. I will do it at home." After saying that, he didn't wait and ran to his house.

Maito Gai didn't say a word after seeing that, but his smile had gone and only seriousness remained on his face.

I need to know what happened. I can't just leave him like this.

Arriving home, Naruto let out a sigh

"Hahh... I hope the sir didn't take it personally." He felt awkward for showing that spectacle to him, but he couldn't do anything in that place.

He felt sorry for Maito Gai, but it wasn't the same.

Clenching his fist, he feels annoyed.

Why do those bastards always treat me like this? I have apologized to them but they get angrier with that. Stupid village...

Taking a deep breath, he went to the kitchen and took something to eat.

Next year I will investigate why they hate me.

Completely annoyed, Naruto finished eating and took his bag to school.

Arriving at the classroom, everyone could see that he was in a bad mood. The gloomy expression he had showed it.

After the theoretical class came the race. Naruto went to talk to Iruka.

"Iruka-sensei, I already ran this morning. Can I do other things?"

Iruka also noticed that he was in a bad mood, but even with that he knew that Naruto wouldn't lie to him. So, he accepted it.

"... Fine, take a seat and rest while they run."

"Thanks, Iruka-sensei" Naruto sat down and started to meditate. For the things that happened a few hours ago, he didn't take the time to meditate after returning home.

Everyone in the class was listening to the conversation between them, and they took it in different ways.

Kiba, Sakura, and his friends took it badly; they were annoyed because he didn't need to run with the class.

The Ino–Shika–Chō Trio just watched without any changes. They still remembered the thing that happened the previous year.

Shino remained silent as Sasuke did.

The only one who seemed worried about that was Hinata, since they were helping each other in the exercise class, they got closer.

Ignoring all of them, Naruto started his meditation.

After they ran through the race, the next step was to do the exercises Iruka told each one to do. They were similar to the flexibility exercises, but the intensity was lower, only to warm up their bodies.

Back in the classroom Naruto continued with his gloomy face. He didn't even have an appetite, but even with that he knows that he needs to eat. After eating, he put his hand on the desk until Iruka told them to continue with the lesson.

"Now continue with the rest of the exercises. When you have finished, you can go home or continue training at school."

The kids as always made their groups of friends and started doing it. Naruto continued the same.

Thinking maliciously, he didn't notice that Hinata approached him as always.

"Naruto-kun... you want to continue with the exercises?" She asked him in a worried voice. It was obvious that Naruto didn't have a good look.

Hearing that, Naruto got out of his world and noticed the girl who was with him in these months.

Offering her a bitter smile, he agreed.

"Ah, Hinata. Sure, let me move my bag."

The lesson continued with both doing the exercises, it didn't take long; and this time Naruto didn't wait for her and went directly home.

"Thanks for today. Bye, Hinata."

Without listening to what the girl answered, he ran home.

Entering and closing the door, he feel an urge to hit everything. Today was supposed to be the first day with his 'master'. Why do they ruin things every time?

"Sigh... I don't want to train any more...at least for today..." saying those words, he threw himself to the sofa and hugged Ego. He was his only support all these months.

Time passed and without noticing it, it was already 9 P.M.

Awakening from the hunger he felt, Naruto went to the kitchen and took a snack.

Sitting with his arms around her knees, Naruto asked Ego.

"Ego, why are things like this?"

"..."

"Ego, am I the one who was wrong? I don't know how to confront him. I don't want him to hate me."

'Ego, what am I supposed to do?'

Ego is always hearing him. As he was listening to the last question, he opened himself and showed him another page.

[Others could hate you but not him. Go tomorrow at the same time, it will be different]

Taking those words to heart, Naruto went to sleep. Ego would never lie to him.

Hugging the book, he lay down on the bed.

-----|-------|-------|------|-------|-----

The next day, at 4:30 A.M.

Naruto was walking to the field. He couldn't sleep well and decided to go early.

Calming his agitated heart, he entered the field and saw him.

Maito Gai was in the field, doing exercise like yesterday.

Hearing the small steps approaching him, he stopped and turned his gaze to Naruto.

With his characteristically smile, he greeted the kid.

"Morning, Naruto. I was waiting for you"

Listening to his voice like when they meet before, a smile grows on Naruto's face.

"Hehe, morning, sir. I wanted to exercise more today."

Maito Gai got up and left the field, making signs to the kid."Well said, Naruto! Let's go, we have to try harder!"

Naruto followed him with a smile.

No one said a word to the other, just ran at the same pace.

After one hour and going around several times, Maito Gai went out of the road and moved in another direction.

Halfway there, Naruto noticed that the path they took today was different, but he continued.

Running for another ten minutes they stopped at the village outskirts.

This was the first time Naruto went out at this place; he always stayed at the village.

Watching the place, he saw Maito Gai move to a cut trunk and sit down.

Making signs to the kid to get closer, Maito Gai took the box he was carrying on his back all the way.

"???"

Seeing the confused expression on Naruto's face, Maito Gai opened the box and took two bentos from it. They were bigger than everyone Naruto saw before.

"Take a seat, Naruto."

Taking a seat on the side, Naruto looks curiously at the boxes.

Grabbing one of the bentos, Maito Gai offered it to him.

"Here, it's better to eat in company."

Naruto was waiting for him to say those words but even with that he felt happy.

"Hehe, thank you, sir Gai!" Taking the bento, Naruto started to eat happily. Ego was right, he's different from others and it will be different.

Maito Gai watched everything; he feels better seeing the kid with a smile after the thing that had happened yesterday.

He waited for him but he never came in the afternoon, so he thought about bringing food to both of them. That way they didn't have to go to the food stalls.

After they finished eating, Naruto went home to continue with meditation. In a better mood, the day passed quickly.

Eating with Maito Gai surely improved things and with that, a month and half passed in a blink of

an eye.

After these months the kids had barely prepared their bodies to practice ninja tools properly.

Doing the exercises in the gym, now they were in a field with dummies with marks on different parts of their bodies.

With everyone in the field, Iruka spoke.

"Good work these months, guys. Now all of you can start the practice."

Grabbing one of the boxes he took from the depot, he started to distribute them to each kid.

"Each one of these boxes had three Kunais, you can practice with them while you're at school. You can save them in your locker when we are finished.

Everyone needs to wait and observe what I'm doing. I will show you how to throw a Kunai, it's the same as the books you have. You need to be able to throw it in any position."

Taking a Kunai from his bag, he slowly moved his hands and started the demonstration.

Pointing his wrist with the other hand, he spoke.

"You need to be especially careful with this part, if you throw it with excessive force you will hurt your hands; and in the worst cases, if you do it for too much time without receiving treatment your hand will be useless unless a powerful healer treats you.

Following the instructions, he threw a Kunai that hit the red center of the dummy.

"Now we need to do it as we move."

Moving through the field with a speed the kids could follow; he throws a kunai.

"Don't concentrate only on the weapon, you need to observe your surroundings and be careful with your opponent, he won't let you move as you wish. The level the school wants you to reach is doing it all at the same time, this will be your graduation test.

Now start practicing."

As Iruka ended his talk, the kids groups began to meet.

Seeing that, Naruto approached Hinata. He also wanted to practice with his friend.

"Hinata, can we practice together?"

She didn't expect him to approach her, but she didn't deny it.

"Mm, this isn't hard, Naruto-kun." Hinata replied and went with him to another place.

These two again? Was the thought everyone in the field had, but they didn't mind about it and continued.

Everyone started their demonstration, most of them didn't even hit the dummy but the clan children could do it easily. Didn't reach the center but at least they hit the body.

The most exceptional were Hinata and Sasuke; both of them almost hit the center. Everyone was amazed by that, but Sasuke had a wrinkled expression.

I need to be the first, like my brother did! He continued his training with determination.

Hinata didn't think that much, it was fine but she needs to improve.

She was thinking that until she noticed Naruto.

He had an amazed expression seeing her.

'Does everyone need to be this good from the start?'

Without knowing what he was thinking, she gives him a shy smile.

Seeing that everyone was practicing, Naruto did the same.

He had the strength, but his precision was lacking and only a few times he could hit the dummy until the lesson ended.

Leaving the school, every day continued in the same way. The kids were slowly improving and now most of them could hit the dummy, not in the center but at least in other parts. They had a large path until they could hit the red spot.

Naruto was only behind the clan kids, recently he was thinking about asking Hinata for help. Now she is the first and no one can reach her since she starts practice in movement. But he didn't know how to do it.

'Maybe later'

Two months passed quickly and only four months to finish the scholar year.

The training he did these months helped him to grow a few centimeters, and now he was almost taller than his classmates.

Seeing himself in the mirror, he flexed his nonexistent muscles. Hehe, soon I will be taller than them!

Back in the living room, he continued his chakra training. Feeling within, he saw the fountain. The red mist now was almost 3 times more than in the beginning of the year.

Since he started to eat well and exercise, the amount increased every day. Turning his gaze to another position it was the blue energy.

But... These things also increase every day and make it harder to control, ugh...

At first, he could control a bit, but the moment he started to exercise the amount was increasing crazily. That could be fine, but the worst part is that new chakra was getting involved with the other energy in his body and all his efforts seemed to be useless.

His control increased a small part, but it wasn't even a 1/50th part of his own chakra.

He could use it but control was a different matter. He complained to Ego about that, but he told him to continue with the efforts. It was working but it would take time.

Getting up from the floor, he took his bag and went to school with a determined expression.

Today he will ask Hinata for help.

He didn't pay attention to Iruka's, all the lesson he was thinking about how he would ask for help.

The practice began and as always he sided with Hinata. They were getting used to it after these months of being friends.

Minutes passed and Naruto stopped suddenly and Hinata noticed it.

Seeing him approaching her, she tilted her head confused.

"Something 's wrong, Naruto-kun?"

With the hand on his neck, he asked her.

"Err, Hinata. You're the first in the class, right?"

"Eh, heheh. Yes, I guess." It's obvious that she feels shy being called the first in front of her.

Bowing a bit with his hands together, Naruto spoke again.

"Aha! Can you help me with my practice? Please!"

Seeing him bow to her, she took a step back and shook her hands. "You don't need to do that! You can practice with me if you want."

"Hehe, thanks, Hinata!" Hearing her acceptance, he feel relief.

They shared a shy smile and started practicing.

"Naruto, kun. I need to see how you are doing it to help you. Throw it a few times."

"Okay!"

Taking the standard position, Naruto concentrates and throws the Kunais. He used Hinata's too.

His training in meditation made him concentrate more easily, but he didn't know what the problem with his practice was.

He throws it thinking that it would hit every time, but there were a few times when he didn't hit anything. The position when the dummy takes the hit is also different.

This wasn't the first time Hinata had seen Naruto doing that.

'He really looks different when he focuses on something, hehe.'

While Hinata was thinking like that, Naruto started his demonstration. Of the 6 kunai's, only one narrowly missed. The positions where they hit were dispersed even if his initial objective was the center.

Finishing his demonstration, he turned to Hinata but she stood in his place with a smile.

"Hinata?" Naruto had already finished throwing the Kunai's, but Hinata didn't reply when he asked her.

Recovering from the trance, she spoke. "Ah! I think I know what your problem was. You are using your eyes badly and aren't thinking with them. That's why you can't hit it every time."

"My eyes?" This time Naruto felt confused.

"Mm, our eyes deceived us if we don't know how to use it properly. You need to know where the Kunai will hit before you throw it. The book told us to learn that but didn't mention any other method than repetitive practice. You need to do it like this." She recovers a Kunai and throws it. It hit the red spot.

"I threw it, but I need to consider what will be his trajectory. Another example is this, come." Taking steps back, they moved further away from the dummy.

'She looks different when she can talk seriously.'

The distance was bigger, but she still hit in the center.

"You need to coordinate your hands and eyes, if they are uncoordinated you can't hit it. The other important step is knowing the amount of strength you need to throw it. It isn't the same as doing it in a few meters

"Mm I see" He doesn't understand how to do the first step. Controlling his strength will take little time.

"You can practice with that, and give me a moment." Grabbing her bag, she takes a sheet of paper and starts to write.

After she finished, she gave it to Naruto. "Take this, if you train like this it will be easy."

Naruto took the sheet and saw that it had a lot of content."Thanks, Hinata! I'll return the favor when I can!"

Hearing that, she shook her head. "Hehe, it's okay, Naruto-kun. It didn't take me anything to help you." She was happy to help her friend, after all, it's him.

Smiling at each other, they continued with his training.

The afternoon arrived and Naruto went to the field, in these months everyday he continued training with him.

The train Maito Gai did is different from him, but he didn't ask about that. Maybe when they become master and disciple, he would teach him.

He doesn't know it, but Maito Gai was amazed all the time. This kid is progressing every day. Even though he's a kid this isn't normal.

He was thinking about taking him as his disciple, although should first ask for their opinion.

The training days continued satisfactorily.

The moment of the test arrived, and Naruto felt a bit worried about that. He didn't know what his level was compared to the other kids (He didn't consider the citizens).

Hinata saw his worried expression and approached him.

"Cheer up, Naruto-kun. You will do well."

"Hinata, thank you. I hope so, but you don't seem worried about it." Stopping with a smile, he continued. "Are you so sure of the first place?"

"Ehh. Hehehe, don't say it like that." She was ashamed to hear those words.

Clapping his hands, Iruka spoke.

"Well, guys. Today is the test, for those who didn't pass, they will have to repeat the year. But I don't think anyone will fail in this.

Now, let's start in order."

The kids start their demonstration. The first ones were the citizens, although they didn't do it skillfully. No one failed the test.

Soon was the turn of the clan children, all of them had already reached the goal of the lesson.

Although they didn't hit the red spot every try, from the 8 kunai's they used at least two.

The classification was from bottom to top:

Shikamaru, Choji, Kiba-Naruto, Ino, and Shino.

"Huff, at least I'm better than that dog" Naruto said in a loud voice.

Hearing that, everyone twisted his mouths holding the laugh. Only Kiba was grinding teeth.

Now it's Sasuke's and Hinata's turn.

Taking the lead, Sasuke took the standard position and prepared himself to do the test.

The first try he hit the red spot, almost out of there but he did it.

Continuing to throw in a quick succession, when he wanted to take the 7 he noticed that only four had reached the spot. The other two failed by a small difference.

Taking a deep breath, he relaxed his body before continuing.

The last two hit the spot, but he didn't look happy. He knew that only when Hinata did the test, he would know if he would continue being the second or not.

Next will be Hinata's turn.

Demonstrating a perfect standard position, she started throwing the Kunai's in succession.

She didn't hesitate for a second, and in a few seconds, all the Kunai's reached the dummy.

8 kunai's were perfectly in the red spot.

Although all of them expected it, that doesn't mean they won't be amazed.

Naruto broke the silence.

"Hahaha awesome as always, Hinata. I knew that you would win against that frozen face!"

Hinata wanted to bury her head in the ground. "Don't say it like that, Naruto-kun..."

Now not only Kiba but also Sasuke was clenching his hands and grinding his teeth.

This bastard always managed to be so annoying.

Stopping the act, Iruka spoke.

"As always, Hinata takes the first place. We will spend the last two months of the school year to continue the practice.

Well done, guys. You can go home."

Everyone went with their friend group, even Naruto, although his only friend is Hinata.

Saying goodbye, they went their separate ways.

With the test done, Naruto could continue his training without any problem but that's for later.

Today he was going to cook a special meal to celebrate it. He wanted to try it since he saw it in a recipe book in the store. This time he took Ego with him.

Arriving at the field he finds Maito Gai waiting for him.

Approaching him with a happy smile on his face, Naruto greeted him.

"Hello, sir Gai!

Maito Gai replied with his strong voice. "Hello, Naruto! You're earlier than usual."

Pointing the large box on his back, he continued. "I haven't eaten yet, do you want to eat with me?"

As a reply, he pointed at his stomach."Of course! I always have room for another meal!"

"Hehehe, let me take out the bentos." Naruto grinned.

Giving him the largest, they started to eat.

Gai spoke as he took bites. "Did something good happen, Naruto?"

"Mm! Today Iruka-sensei took us a kunai test, and I was one of the first five!" He said with a proud expression.

"That's incredible, Naruto! Your efforts always pay off, keep up the hard work and you can achieve all your goals!" It's always comforting hearing Maito Gai talking.

Trying to copy his expression, he winked. "Aha! Because that's how youth is!"

"You're right, Naruto! We need to continue burning our youth!" Maito Gai seemed really moved.

"Hehehe"

[Well done, Naruto.] Those words appeared in the book before disappearing.

They continued his meal amidst happy laughter.

-----|-------|-------|------|-------|-----

This chapter is a bit longer than the others. I could do it shorter, but I wanted to talk about Naruto and Hinata.

In the Canon it seems that she doesn't have any friends because of his personality. Now, befriending Naruto, the person she likes, she can improve that part a bit. Like striving more to do things well, Naruto is also happy to have a friend.

Tell me what you think about the interaction between these two, they are only common friends for now. Does it seem awkward or look good?

The hostility the villagers showed the first time Naruto went to the food stall with Maito Gai made him doubt, if he showed discomfort around him Naruto would be closed himself again.

Byakugan has the advantage in the first stages, that's why she wins so easily.

Having a meal with Gai showing what he achieved is cute.

Next ch will be about Sasuke and the Uchihas.
