Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: She Really Deserved to Be Hit

The sound of "da-da-da" echoed again from the stairs behind her, gradually pulling Serena Sullivan back to the memories four years ago. Her body froze momentarily, and she heard Claire Sullivan's furious voice in her ear.

"Serena!"

Claire Sullivan quickly stepped forward, forcefully pushing Chen Ma out of the way in front of Serena. She raised her hand high, ready to slap Serena's swollen cheek again, but a piercingly cold light shot from afar, like a knife making her shiver all over. Somehow, that slap did not land decisively.

Beside her, Zoe Quinn, who was crying, watched with delight as Claire Sullivan helped to punish Serena. She wanted to see what this cripple dared to say next. As Claire's hand stopped in mid-air, Zoe took a breath, ready to cry pitifully, when a man walked into everyone's view.

A white shirt, black trousers, this simplest attire somehow mesmerized the eyes; the most beautiful look in the world could not be more so.

As he stood there, the atmosphere around him instantly solidified, freezing cold, causing Claire Sullivan's hand to tremble. Fearfully, she lowered her hand, inexplicably scared to look up at Ethan Grant.

Serena did not turn back. It turned out he left The Grant Family early today to come here to placate his beloved woman.

The words she said just now, he should have heard them too, although she became his wife, the one he trusts isn't her.

Serena sneered self-mockingly, deciding not to say more.

"Brother Ethan!"

Ethan Grant came down, and Zoe Quinn was the most excited. With tears in her eyes, she happily ran over, "Did you wake up? Did we disturb you!"

"I heard you crying, came down to see."

"Brother Ethan, I'm fine." Zoe shook her head, then looked at Serena behind her, tears fell again, "Even though my sister doesn't love you anymore, why did she marry you?"

Ethan Grant did not respond. He raised his head, and his gaze landed on Serena.

She sat up straight in her wheelchair, with slender, fair fingers on her legs, slowly stroking back and forth. Her beautiful profile reflected in his deep eyes, and the clear palm print on her face made his eyes instantly blaze with fire; emotions reached a peak at this moment, failing to control himself, he asked coldly, "Who did this?"

His words stunned everyone present, Serena's body stiffened, and her hand on her legs involuntarily clenched into a fist.

"It was like this..."

In front of a junior, as the General Manager of The Sullivan Corporation, Claire Sullivan felt guilty, unsure how to answer.

Four years ago, Claire was very aware of how well Ethan Grant and Serena were together. Over the past four years, she seldom liked to meet Ethan Grant, but Zoe liked him. Now, she was most worried that Serena would use tricks to snatch Ethan Grant away from kind-hearted Zoe.

"Brother Ethan!"

Zoe Quinn was even more nervous than Claire Sullivan. She grabbed Ethan Grant's hand, tears falling in big drops from her eyes, exuding a pitiful appearance that few men could resist.

"Mom did it all for me."

"My sister snatched you from me, that's why mom punished her."

"I'm sorry, it's all my fault," Zoe said again with tears in her eyes.

"How can it be your fault!" Claire Sullivan, seeing Zoe blame herself, felt extremely distressed, "It's mom's uselessness, failing to educate your sister well!"

She spoke with hatred and glanced disdainfully at the coldly sneering Serena.

"Mr. Grant, Zoe truly cares for you..." Claire Sullivan subtly reminded, but upon finishing, she discovered Ethan Grant's face was tight, with eyes gloomily staring at her, causing her heart to tremble and her throat dry, unable to utter a word.

"Indeed, she deserves a beating!"

Ethan Grant spoke slowly, saying it coldly before shifting his gaze to Zoe Quinn.
