Chapter 51: A New Beginning

Fifteen Years After the Multiverse War

The multiverse had begun to regain its fragile balance, slowly recovering from the destruction of the war against Kairus.

Ben Tennyson, now in his late thirties, sat on a wide porch overlooking a green field on the outskirts of Metropolis. His brown hair was streaked with silver, and though light wrinkles framed his face, it still carried the firmness of someone who had seen too much and endured more.

Beside him sat Kara—Supergirl—dressed in a simple house gown. Her bright blue eyes followed the setting sun in silence.

Ben smiled faintly but looked distant.

Kara sighed and broke the quiet:

"Something still on your mind?"

Ben replied, "Every real hero hits a point where he feels like he has to stop being a hero… but he never stops being himself.

To be honest? I miss Gwen. Kevin… even Grandpa Max.

They went back to their world, but every moment we spent together… it's engraved inside me.

When everything around us was falling apart, we always had each other.

Now, the quiet feels… strange without them."

Kara gave him a warm smile and said gently:

"The quiet is strange… but maybe it's the reward you've waited for all these years.

You've always been fighting, so it's only natural you'd feel something's missing when everything stops.

But those who were with you back then… they chose to go back because they knew you had done your part—and that you could live without the war.

Maybe… now is the time to let the past rest and live in the moment, with those who are still here."

She reached out and touched his hand softly:

"I'm still here. And I choose you—every day.

And maybe… it's okay to let the next generation take over saving the world."

Ben looked at her hand, then smiled quietly. His voice, low but full of warmth:

"I choose you too… every single day."

He turned his gaze toward the golden sky where the sun was melting into the horizon.

"For the first time… I think I don't need to be a hero to still exist."

He paused, then gently squeezed her hand.

"And that's because of you."

Location: An Abandoned Area Outside Metropolis

"Focus, Kyle!"

The voice of Jon Kent echoed through the walled-off space.

He stood firmly, his jet-black hair slightly tousled, his piercing sky-blue eyes almost seemed to see through everything.

He faced his friend Kyle, who had just fired a heat vision blast that dangerously veered off-target—nearly hitting Wally.

Kyle, a young man with tousled blond hair and grey eyes, stumbled backward, breathing heavily.

"Sorry! Feels like every time I try to focus… things get worse!"

"You're improving. You just need more time," Jon said, walking closer and placing a hand on Kyle's shoulder.

"Don't compare yourself to me. Every Kryptonian has their own pace. Your control will come—when you stop putting so much pressure on yourself. At least unlike the Kryptonians, you're not affected by green Krypton."

In the corner, Wally West—his wild red hair practically glowing—was watching the scene while chomping down on a giant sandwich stuffed with cheese and peppers.

"What I saw today? Major improvement.

Last time I trained with Kyle, he nearly fried my eyebrows."

Kyle chuckled.

"If I walk into school like this… they'll find out I'm a space alien, not a student."

"Don't sweat it," Wally said, brushing crumbs off his shirt.

"We all felt like aliens when we first walked in. You'll get used to it."

"We'll be right there with you," Jon said, patting his back.

"We're a team. And at that school… we're going to prove it."

The Next Morning – Outside Metropolis High School

The school loomed tall and elegant, a perfect mix of modern glass architecture and classic brick design. Trees, fountains, and the hum of student chatter filled the open grounds.

Kyle wore a blue shirt and dark jeans, slinging his backpack over one shoulder. His eyes scanned every detail nervously.

Jon walked calmly beside him, offering subtle reassurance. Ahead of them, Wally moved through the crowd like a celebrity, giving nods and high-fives.

Kyle and John are wearing glasses to hide his identity

"First day of school…" Kyle murmured.

"I can't even remember the last time I was in a classroom."

"Totally normal for someone homeschooled their whole life," Jon said, laughing.

"But if anything goes sideways, we've got your back."

"I don't even know how to open a locker," Kyle muttered.

"Or how to order food in the cafeteria."

"That's easy!" Wally replied with a grin.

"Just stick behind me when we eat. And whatever you do—don't try the 'Reactive Bean Soup.' Learned that one the hard way."

Inside the Classroom – Midday

The classroom buzzed with quiet energy. Ms. Anne Meadows—a sharp, composed young teacher—stood at the board while students settled into their seats.

"We've got a new student joining us this term," she said with a light smile, opening the door.

Kyle stepped in, slightly hesitant but holding himself tall.

He scanned the room with wide, uncertain eyes.

"This is Kyle Kirby," Ms. Meadows said.

"We hope he'll settle in quickly."

Kyle took a breath and said clearly:

"I'm Kyle… just a new student.

Looking forward to getting to know you all, and… thanks for the warm welcome."

A pause of silence followed—then someone in the back started clapping. A few more joined in.

Wally chimed in loudly:

"Now that's how you make an entrance! No showboating, just honest talk!"

Kyle gave a shy smile.

For the first time… he felt like he belonged.

End of the Day – School Courtyard

The trio—Kyle, Jon, and Wally—exited the school together after a long first day.

Wally stretched his arms toward the sky.

"We made it! No disasters… no accidental flying!"

Jon smirked.

"You nearly floated in fourth period when the teacher announced a surprise quiz."

"That was a subconscious response!" Wally laughed.

"I was mentally escaping!"

They all laughed as they walked off together in the golden sunlight.

A new chapter had begun—and Kyle, deep down, finally felt like he was home.

Later – The Kirby Household

Kyle pushed open the door and called out, voice full of tired excitement:

"I'm home! Mom... Dad!"

Soft footsteps came from the kitchen. Kara appeared, drying her hands with a towel, and immediately wrapped him in a warm hug.

"How was your first official day at school?" she asked.

"Honestly? Not bad at all. Saw Jon and Wally—it felt like we picked up right where we left off."

Ben entered from the living room with a mug of coffee in hand, giving his son a quiet look of pride.

They shared a soft laugh and comfortable silence.

Kara rested her hand gently on Kyle's shoulder.

"So… how did it feel when they called you Kyle Kirby?"

Kyle grinned playfully.

"Honestly? Still doesn't feel like it fits… but at least it's not Kyle Tennyson. That would've blown our cover instantly."

Ben chuckled, shaking his head.

"That's why we picked it. You deserve a normal life."

Kara, a hint of concern in her eyes:

"Nothing unexpected happened, right?"

Kyle shrugged off his jacket.

"No, all smooth. I managed my powers okay. Even when I got nervous, Jon covered for me. And Wally helped… in his own way."

Kara smiled.

"Alright then. Go get changed—dinner's almost ready."

"Perfect! I'm starving," Kyle called as he ran upstairs.

Ben stood there for a moment, watching his son's footsteps fade.

"…Maybe a quiet life isn't so bad after everything we've been through," he said softly.
