Chapter 23 : Silva
"Going…?" Axton announced loudly, rousing the majority of the players present.
This was another opportunity for them to correct their mistake and purchase the staff and they planned to use it immediately.
"I will take it!"
"$5500!"
"Give it to me. I will pay $6800!"
'What the hell?' Axton thought as this frenzy of an auction continued.
Nevertheless, he was not bothered since the money was coming to him. He had no complaints about the whole thing.
"$9000!"
Axton smiled after waiting for several seconds and hearing no counteroffer. "Going for $9000! Going… going…"
After a few minutes passed, he closed the purchase.
"Gone."
Someone bought it with a large smile on his face as he felt a profound sense of satisfaction.
Axton allowed him his moment of happiness, only to pull out yet another staff a few seconds later.
"Going?" he said
"Huh? How?"
"Seriously?! He still has more?"
"What's this? Is he playing around with us?"
"How does he have not one… not two, but three common grade items that are the same?"
"I don't even have one and this guy has three!"
After this, nobody that witnessed this needed a soothsayer to tell them that Axton had more tricks up his sleeves.
Guilds started to pick interest as they had healer class players in their ranks.
Without any healing skills, these players would be worthless to the organisation and themselves as well.
A healer who couldn't heal was not useful to anybody.
Acquiring a considerable number of Axton's common staff for their healers was a much easier route to make them stronger than taking them to kill monsters in the game.
Players returned to the village from their quests just to have a shot at this opportunity that was offered to them by Axton.
It was better than whatever it was that they had going for them currently.
"Hey, how many more of those staff do you have?" a random player asked out loudly, stepping into the open as he beat his chest once, "My guild will buy them all."
"My Star Warriors Guild will take them at $6500 per staff," another guild leader protested, hoping to entice Axton to release whatever little number he had left.
"You don't even that much?"
"You dare call the Star Warriors Guild broke?!"
"Pfft! Star Warriors. What a joke."
Watching these arguments unfold, Axton only smiled.
The more they disagreed, the more it would favour him and that was part of his plan all along.
He needed the money these players had to offer.
He had real life issues to sort out.
He was tired of the place his father left him. Axton wanted to enjoy his youthful life as well and taste what luxury is.
As everybody dragged who Axton would favour, a voice resounded and ushered in a distressing calm to the scene.
Players parted ways for this person to walk among them.
"Grand Nexus will have them all. We are not the number one for nothing."
This was the voice of Silva.
The influence that Grand Nexus was amassing was bothersome.
"You are Khan, aren't you?" Silva asked.
Axton looked at him continuously without saying a single word.
Silva's veins almost popped with anger because Axton snubbed him.
Who the hell did Axton think he is?
Axton did not show any warm gestures towards Silva. In fact, he saw Silva as a threat to his business, witnessing firsthand how he moved among the crowd.
Everybody was bidding freely and out of nowhere, Silva wanted to colonize the market by buying everything he had.
Silva, being a branch leader of the Grand Nexus guild, had some level of confidence in him. Some would dare to even tag it arrogance.
"Give all of them to us and we will reward you handsomely," Silva rudely demanded as if Axton was supposed to naturally do his bidding.
Axton arched his eyebrows, unable to grasp what was going on in Silva's head for him to be acting the way he did.
Silva was simply playing a power game.
If he could make the world famous player, "Khan", do his bidding in front of this crown, he and the Grand Nexus guild's reputation would shoot to the sky, placing them levels apart from other guilds.
The other players who watched were held in suspense as they tried to predict how Axton would react to the branch guild leader.
Axton had come here alone and from the information he was able to gather so far, Silva was able to infer that Axton was also a solo player.
Facing a group is harder than fighting one on one on a good day, so Silva wanted to know what Axton would do when he was so close to being ganged up against.
Axton settled his mind and subtly exhaled while facially maintaining his cool.
He looked Silva dead in the eyes, taking his time before speaking.
"Please leave," Axton requested calmly.
Silence.
Was Axton joking?
Did he just prick the tail of the Grand Nexus guild?
The players were shocked.
'This guy is really who he thinks he is,' many of them thought.
'Definitely has some balls of steel,' QueenBee admired him from a distance as she clutched the common staff that she bought very close to her chest.
One would think that QueenBee was afraid that it would be stolen from her.
"The auction is over for you…" Axton said, pausing and shifting his gaze to the players that accompanied Silva, "... and you lickspittles."
"You…!"
One of the members of Grand Nexus prepared to charge at Axton when Silva's arm crossed in front of him, stopping him.
"Wait," Silva warned. "Don't be brash."
*Shing*
Axton raised his hand and sparkles of light like the stars in the night sky appeared.
From these light sparkles, the remaining common staff appeared.
"No need to make a fuss about this," Axton said, his voice coming in a humble tone that came off as if he sympathised with them.
Axton then asked Silva, "You want all of this?"
Silva, shocked and overcome by the feeling of victory, could not help but grin devilishly in his heart.
'That's more like it, peasant,' Silva thought while faking a smile.
"Yes," Silva further answered with the brightest of smiles.
Axton chuckled and shook his head.
"You won't be getting a single one whatsoever," he replied to the branch guild leader, his words landing on Silva's head like a hammer.
