Chapter 17: Martian Manhunters and Memory Mischief
National City. Back to the land of sunshine, Supergirl, and increasingly complex alien politics. Adam, having just unlocked the glorious ability of Memory Manipulation, felt a surge of mischievous glee. "Seriously, System, you're like a genie, only instead of three wishes, I get unlimited pranks. And now I can make people forget things? This is going to be epic. No more awkward conversations, just… convenient amnesia."
[SYSTEM: Temporal Jump Complete. Destination: National City. Objective: Observe Supergirl S01E15: "Solitude". Suggestion: Experiment with new ability: Memory Manipulation for comedic effect.]
"Comedic effect? System, you know me too well," Adam thought, a grin playing on his lips. He knew the drill: Indigo, the rogue Coluan, was causing trouble, and Supergirl was going to need a hand. A subtle, chaotic hand.
He found himself near a park where Indigo had just caused a minor disturbance. A couple of bewildered passersby were trying to explain what they'd seen to a skeptical police officer.
"Perfect targets," Adam mused. He focused, picturing them forgetting Supergirl, but vividly remembering something else. Something… adorable.
[SYSTEM: Memory Manipulation used. Target: Civilian. Effect: Memory Altered (Giant Flying Kitten).]
"And then," one civilian stammered, "there was this… this giant, fluffy kitten! It had wings! And it was flying! And it meowed like a tiny, angry cloud!"
The police officer stared at them. "A flying kitten, sir? Are you sure you haven't had too much… sunshine?"
Adam, hidden nearby, stifled a giggle. "Oh, this is going to be so much fun. Imagine the police reports."
Later, as Supergirl was locked in a fierce battle with Indigo, Adam knew it was time to intervene. Indigo was powerful, her digital attacks relentless.
"Time for some psychological warfare, nanotech style," Adam thought. He focused, picturing Indigo suddenly facing her greatest fear: an army of dancing K-Pop idols.
[SYSTEM: Illusion deployed. Target: Indigo. Effect: Extreme Distraction.]
Suddenly, Indigo, mid-energy blast, stopped dead. Her eyes, usually cold and calculating, widened in utter bewilderment. Before her, shimmering in the air, was a legion of perfectly synchronized K-Pop idols, all performing a highly energetic dance routine, complete with glowing light sticks. They even had tiny, ethereal microphones.
"What in the…?! This is illogical! This is… noise!" Indigo shrieked, momentarily forgetting Supergirl.
Kara, momentarily distracted by the sheer absurdity, used the opening to deliver a powerful punch, sending Indigo flying.
"You're welcome, Supergirl," Adam thought, dispelling the K-Pop idols. "Sometimes, the best offense is a good dose of synchronized dancing."
[SYSTEM: Achievement Unlocked: Consistent Plot Influence. Reward: New Ability - Memory Manipulation ("Forget-Me Spell").]

Adam grinned. "Boom! Memory Manipulation! This is going to be so much fun. My pranks just got a whole lot more… forgettable for everyone else."
After the fight, he found Kara, looking exhausted but victorious. He teleported beside her, holding out a shimmering, nanotech-generated ice cream cone.
"Rough day, huh?" Adam said, his voice soft, devoid of its usual sarcastic edge. "Here. Nothing a little super-powered ice cream can't fix. Unless it's existential dread. Then you need a therapist. Or more ice cream."
Kara took the cone, a small smile touching her lips. "You know, you're weird. But… thanks, Adam. You always seem to show up when I need a distraction."
"It's my specialty," Adam winked. "Besides, what are best friends for?"
J'onn J'onzz, meanwhile, was subtly observing Adam. He felt a strange psychic "noise" around him, something he couldn't quite pinpoint, a fleeting sense of altered memories and bizarre images. "Who is this human?" J'onn wondered, a flicker of curiosity in his ancient eyes.
"Don't worry, J'onn," Adam thought, teleporting away. "You'll figure it out. Eventually. Or you'll just keep blaming the aliens. Either way, it's a win for me."
