Her eyes snapped open, wheezing as if she had just been pulled out of the water. Her eyes darted around the dimly lit room, her fingers clenching the bed sheets. Startled, she jumped off the bed, rushing to turn the light on.
Her breath caught as her eyes fell on the photo hanging on the wall, it was the wedding portrait of her and her husband, Alexander Wayne.
"Impossible." She muttered under her breath. Her slender hands clutched her night gown.
"This is impossible." She pushed back the strands of hair clinging to her face. She hurried to the window, hesitating for a moment, before sliding it open.
She gasped, her hand flew to her mouth, as her eyes fell on the beautiful tall buildings and streets of Luxebridge city. Tears trickled down her cheeks. "I really came back." she sobbed, falling to her knees. She had been reborn, and not just that, she had returned to the time before the apocalypse.
Her eyes hardened with anger and pain, as she turned to look at her marriage picture. The memory of how she died flooded her mind.
...…
Slap.
The sound of her sister's palm connecting to her face echoed in the air.
"What is…" Before she could finish her words another resounding slap made her head turn to the other side.
But this time the slap came from someone she hadn't expected… her husband.
"I am so disappointed in you Laurel, I never knew you were a vixen. How could you harm your own sister's unborn child?" Alexander's voice shook the building.
"I said…"
"All I did was show you kindness. I can't believe you hurt my child." Camile threw herself into Alexander's arms sobbing.
Laurel's jaw clenched, tears trickled down her eyes as she watched her husband who had been nothing but cold to her, patting her sister's back.
"But I didn't do it." Laurel cried out. She turned to the rest of the family, but everyone looked at her with disgust.
"And not only that… she also gave our location away. Which led to the invasion and the loss of our food and storage. Mr. Wayne, she is colliding with the Fallmere group, she is a snitch!" her brother-in-law Ronan yelled. He punched the wall of the building, and dust fell from the impact.
"That's not true…" Laurel cried out in frustration. "I have been framed. Mr. Wayne, believe me, please."
"You know how traitors are punished. Not only did you kill my unborn child." Camile touched her stomach, her eyes swollen from crying. "You also brought disaster to our family. We have lost both our bunker and supplies to the occult group all because of you. You should be fed to the monsters."
Laurel exhaled shakily. "You are joking, right? You all know I'll never do this… I can never do this. And don't forget how important I am to this family, I have done a lot for us to survive this apocalypse… You can't do this to me."
"It is the rule, Laurel… Snitchers belong to the monsters." Alexander said coldly, his face devoid of emotion.
"I am your wife Alexander! I am your wife. You can't do this to me." Laurel stepped back, her shoulders trembling from the injustice and betrayal of her family.
"Throw her off the building," Ronan yelled from behind.
"No.. No. This is not true, I was framed. Someone set me up…" Before she could finish her words, two men came forward and pulled her towards the railing of the abandoned building where they were hiding.
"Alexander please!!!" Her cry fell on dead ears.
Camile pulled away from Alexander's embrace. She sniffled as she wiped her tears.
Alexander held her back. "Where are you going?"
"I need to see her off. She is my sister after all." Camile fluttered her eyes weakly at him.
"You really are a good sister, Camile. If only she were half as kind as you, we wouldn't have been in this situation. I'm really sorry for your loss… that was the only lineage of the Lennox family." Alexander's gaze softened.
"You shouldn't apologize, it is not your fault." Her fingers lingered on Alexander's arm before she walked towards Laurel.
Laurel's heart pounded in her chest, as she stared down the building. The wind ruffled her hair… Underneath the building were numerous monsters lurking around.
"Please don't do this to me, I have been nothing but kind to all of you." Her eyes darted between the two men frantically.
"We are sorry, Mrs. Wayne, we have to follow orders." Just as they were about to push her off the building.
"Wait!" Camile's voice came from behind. Laurel let out a deep sigh of relief, believing that her sister must have come back to her senses, and believes her now.
"Camile, thank you for believing in me."
Camile gestured for the two men to leave them. After she was sure that no one was close by, she turned to Laurel with a lopsided smirk on her face. "How do you like my surprise?" Her once pitiful voice turned into a venomous one.
Laurel blinked in confusion. What was she talking about?
"How was my performance? Touching right?" She slowly walked closer, making Laurel take a step back. "It is just too sad that no one believes you."
"What are you talking about sister?" Laurel's brows knitted in fear of falling off the railing and the confusion in her sister's words.
"This is why you could never win against me, Laurel. You are just too naive." Camile rolled her eyes inwardly. "I did it, I killed the little bastard of the Lennox family in my stomach. I hate that family to the gut. And as for the spy… I am the one."
Laurel's eyes widened in shock. "How could you do such an inhumane thing… What changed you?"
Camile's eyes darkened. "You know nothing about me. And this is a game of survival, you don't expect me to be kind." Her voice lowered. "Goodbye sister… I'll take good care of your husband."
Before Laurel could comprehend her words, Camile pushed her off the railings.
"NOOO!" Laurel's scream pierced through the wind. And as she plummeted down, she saw her husband pulling Camile into a hug.
Tears trickled down her cheeks, lost to the wind. "I don't accept this…"
Before she could feel the touch of the earth, she felt her arms and legs ripped apart. Blood gurgled from her mouth. And then everything went blank.
