Kurt's POV:
Man, I'm telling you, PE class is always boring. CAUTION: Avoid PE class whenever it's possible (if you aren't athletic, of course).
I swung my PE bag over my shoulder, the straps creaking a bit as I adjusted them, the sweat clinging to my skin. PE is over, finally! However, my mind, which is not so smart, for reasons I don't understand, is still replaying how Mara felt vulnerable. How tears rolled down her face as she backed away from the class! They're cruel. Too cruel for scaring the soft, kind-hearted Mara. They surrounded her like a pack of wolves! And their leader? Lukie.
Damn, Lukie can be such a jerk sometimes.
"Bro, COME ON! Let's go!" Axel yelled from some steps forward as he walked with Zeke. Lukie was ahead of everyone with Cassie and her group. I nodded and ran towards Axel and Zeke, matching their pace.
Axel swung his arm over my shoulder, "Dude, Cassie is buying us fries after school. Wanna join?"
I hesitated before shaking my head, "Can't, Axel, sorry. I need to go home after school. Keira's all alone."
Zeke looked at me with an expressionless face, but I knew what he meant: Good brother. Axel patted my back with an impressed look, "Oh...such a lucky sister to have our Kurt baby as her elder brother," he teased.
I rolled my eyes and we kept walking, the chatter around us buzzing like flies. Everyone was talking about some bullshit, honestly. Like, who the hell talks about how many times a raccoon poops per day?!
My new classmates are too weird.
My mind drifted back to Mara. Every time I think about her, I realize how cruel Lukie can be sometimes.
Don't get me wrong, I'm his best friend, and he's mine. We've been close since we were kids, but there are moments—like today—where I can't even recognize him. The way he smirked while Mara's eyes were red and glossy? It made something tighten in my chest, and yeah, not in a good way.
"Yo, bro, you alive?" Axel nudged my shoulder with his, and I snapped out of my thoughts.
"Yeah...just thinking about stuff. Nothing important," I smiled faintly.
Zeke narrowed his eyes before speaking in his typical brooding voice, "You're lying." It sounded more like a statement than a question.
"No, that's not it," I chuckled awkwardly before quickly stopping because I realize it's too hollow.
Zeke gave me a side-eye before looking away. I knew he wouldn't push it further. I sighed in relief, walking with the boys.
----------------------------------------------------------
I pulled my PE shirt over my head before opening my locker. I tossed my PE shirt inside and took out my polo shirt. The locker room buzzed in chaos. Laughter. Playful banters. Teasing.
I inserted my head into my polo shirt and changed my pants while looking around the boys' locker room.
The lockers were made of high-quality metal which were painted sky blue with combination locks, the grayish-mint color of the walls giving the room the best combination with the color of the lockers. The boys were talking loudly, laughing and throwing balls around while changing. Some boys were shyly turning away or going to the corners to change pants. The air of the room was filled with the smell of cologne, sweat, and liniment oils. Shoes, socks, and belt were scattered over the floor. The boys were talking about video games, girls, cars, clubs, and all that rubbish.
Mike, one of the school's bullies, was loudly teasing a quiet boy (I forgot his name).
I swear, the boys in this school are so mean.
Lukie looked at me with his furrowed eyebrows, "Hey, why were you so defensive of her? The nerd? Do you like her?"
My eyes widened in shock and I quickly looked at Lukie, "You mad or something?! I don't like her! You know I've never loved someone except—"
My face fell as I looked down. God...again...Isla.
I swore to myself not to remember her. She was just my past...
God, please don't do this to me.
Lukie, Axel and Zeke seemed to notice my inner turmoil as they patted my back, talking about some rubbishes. I gave them a slight smile as I arranged my locker quietly, my mind drifting back to Isla and Mara.
Am I...in love again...?
I hope not.
