Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

I placed my feet up on the desk without a second glance at the students around me watching my every move. Their eyes followed, waiting for my emotions to boil over. It was only a matter of time before they found and dragged my ass back to this wretched building.

Passengalia School of Supernaturals. The pain in my unroyal ass.

Speaking of, two were supposed to be in attendance this year. Unlike normal human schools, they forced us into educational curriculum until we were twenty-one despite the fact that most supernaturals had reached adulthood by sixteen. Even being eighteen and an adult by human standards, it didn't matter.

Any being with otherworldly powers was required by supernatural law to attend school. Those who attempted to thwart the rules would be dragged back kicking and screaming until they conformed. Trust me, I know. It took them two years and seven days to figure out where the hell I was and boy, were they mad. No one had ever escaped and stay hidden for so long.

Then again, they'd never had a half-breed like me around. Well, Passen had half-breeds, but none to my extent. Said half-breeds also didn't refer to themselves as such. Mixing bloodlines with a supernatural outside of your own species in my ranking was heavily frowned upon. Segregation and discrimination were in full swing amongst our world.

And I lived to irritate these people who thought they could tell me exactly how I was expected to live out my life. All they had were thoughts and ideas about my existence. No matter how much I pushed and fought against the rules, they refused to budge. My powers were too volatile to allow me any freedom.

A long time ago an angel slept with an incubus and nine months later a pretty little me was born. I didn't belong in heaven or hell, so Earth was my only other option. There were other half demons around the school. Warlocks, witches, casters, and even shifters. If someone had magical abilities, it was a pretty much guaranteed that an angel or a demon was somewhere in their familial line.

Half demons were significantly more common than a half angel since they still hunted Nephilim down. Angels were against anything tainting their bloodlines with humans. The holier than thou mentality was strong in Heaven. Humans couldn't understand those morals, and they hated anything that made them look less than perfect.

Yet here I was. Half demon, half angel. The first known in existence. No one had ever planned for such an incident. Purebred angels and demons did not mingle. Ever.

Two sides governed our supernatural world. The pure-blooded angels and demons. Well, the ruling men were always purebred. Tell me how it made sense though. On a crown prince's twenty-first birthday, they would pick their half counterpart. And that's where it got tricky.

Even though the female counterpart would be a half-breed, her child would always be a purebred angel or demon. Something from the past about not letting either side produce something too powerful to unsettle the balance of light and dark. Even our genes promoted sexism.

Whispers had floated all around me when I was escorted by armed guards into the Dean's office. Prodigal child returned at last. Most had figured I was dead. They probably wished I was. When I say no one had done what I did, I meant it. Running away was dangerous and so bloody illegal in our world. Yet what could they actually do?

Silly supernaturals. My powers were unlike anything Earth had ever known. It was going to take a lot to take me out of this world. If only they knew it. I was fairly tight-lipped about the things I knew. Tests gave them little information. And being against discrimination, I hated them all equally.

Sitting in the office, I was already plotting my next escape. I needed time, though. They would not leave me alone just yet.

"Hey there, Anteater, whatcha got for me?"

Anteater was not amused in the least. A vein up on her forehead became a tad bit more prominent and her lips pursed like a duck. It wasn't my fault she was born with such a long nose and kissed the headmaster's hind end like her life depended on it. I'd be nice to her the day she broke that pathetic desperation she held for him. He, on the other hand…I would never forgive him.

Anteater practically threw the schedule at me and pointed to the door for me to get out. She must have been too mad to find her voice. I gave the guards a single finger salute while I slammed the door behind me. For now, they weren't following. With a longing glance to the front door, I trudged towards my class. The bell had just rung and there was a small army on the school grounds. They'd find me before I made it past the gates and then I would really be guarded.

 I had to wait.

Those still in the halls avoided touching me as they passed, rushing off while I maintained my leisurely trudge. All my time away, and I still remembered these halls like it was yesterday. My first class was mind studies. I glanced back at the schedule and considered crumpling the paper into a ball. This class was going to get me into some serious trouble.
