Origin of mutation
The student, around two hundred or so, followed the bald man, and at that moment each and every one of them was trying to come up with a reason for why they were all grouped into the same category.
But none of them were able to come up with a possible explanation, that was until the bald man come to a stop.
Behind the bald man there were other people. Some wore military black attire while others wore lab coats.
A young lady with dark hair tied in a ponytail stood behind the bald man.
She held a notepad which she continuously typed at the screen of the pad, not having a care of what was happening around her.
Also at the same time, close to her, other people in lab coats could be seen arriving with what looked like a black suitcase, only a little bit larger than the normal size.
As they opened it right in front of her, allowing her to have a view of what was inside, which she had done.
She then looked at the bald man and then nodded her head, gesturing that it was okay, or so the students thought.
The bald man, seeing her gesture, then began to speak.
"Due to the assessment difficulty level and its underlying principles,"
he explained, his voice firm,
"each and every one of you must be on equal playing field, or rather, each of you must have the same fundamental advantages.
That is precisely why you all have been gathered here: to be given an extraordinary opportunity to become mutated humans."
the man said looking at the teenagers.Hearing the words that left his mouth, Some of the students were excited,While some were perplexed by the words that had left the man's mouth.
Some of the students were anxious and more curious of how difficult the assessment could be to the point that they were even going to turn them into mutated humans for them to be at equal footing and able to take part in it? Just what was the assessment going to be? Fai asked himself questions he had no answer to.
Not only that, even if the assessment was going to be difficult, why did they even care? It's not like it was a bad thing for them to care, it was just... something felt a little bit off to Fai.
The way the world was now, no one helped the weak, not when they had nothing to gain.
No matter how strong or powerful a person were, no one did such a thing.
On the other hand , the weak did all in their might to gain the favors of the strong, each for a different reason.
That was just how the world was.
However, although it was common sense that being a mutated hunter came with the basics of being a mutated human to begin with, it wasn't just easy to do so.
So the fact that they were being offered an opportunity to become mutated humans out of the blue made him to be a little bit cautious.
Some of the students were still looking at the bald man expecting some kind of explanation or maybe some more talking, but unfortunately he didn't add more.
He then stepped behind, and the lady with dark hair tied in a ponytail came forward.
She had a smile on her face as she pushed her glasses up and began to speak.
"I can see that most of you are excited while others are perplexed and cautious, which in a way is a good thing,"
the lady said.
"Well for why you should be excited, the answer should be obvious, but for those of you who are perplexed and cautious, I'm guessing you might have worries and want to ask questions. Feel free to do so, but I will recommend you do that after the little explanation I'm about to give you."
The lady continued, to which she pushed her glasses back up.
"Listen closely." She said.
"Because understanding what I'm about to say to you is paramount to understanding your future."
She continued.
"Like you all should know, the origins of what you are about to become are twofold, intertwined by catastrophe and ingenuity."
She paused for a moment, letting her words hang in the air. The students looked at each other, no one understanding a single word of what she said.
It was almost as if she was speaking a different language.
'Effects of too much book. I'm lucky I left that thing a long time ago. Damn it, I would not be surprised if one of these days she runs mad,'
the bald man thought as he looked at the lady.
It didn't take her long to know what was going on as she saw the perplexed look on all the students' faces.
But she still continued like it didn't matter.
"I'm sure you all were taught in school that our world was at the brink of extinction. When we were attacked by creatures from another world, all our best weapons were not even able to leave a scratch on them, but that was until we were saved by a scientific discovery which helped us to mutate human genes, right?"
The lady asked, to which they all nodded in affirmation.
"Although that information is correct, it's not really complete," she continued.
"Like you all should know, from what you were taught of course. Fifty years ago, our world was struck by the Great Fracture."
"This wasn't a localized disaster; it was a tear in the very fabric of our reality as we know it. It unleashed foreign energies and beasts on our planet."
"This fleeing energy , for many, it brought only death or madness. However, for a select few, it triggered an unexpected and spontaneous evolutionary leap."
"These individuals were the First Mutated Humans, born of chaos, wielding powers they barely understood, yet capable of fighting back against the monstrous incursions that followed the Fracture."
"These early, naturally mutated individuals were humanity's first line of defense,"
She continued, her voice gaining a note of reverence .
"They were powerful, but their mutations were random, often uncontrollable, and not easily replicated. This is where our most brilliant minds, our scientists, stepped in."
"Witnessing the raw potential, and the desperate need, these scientists began a relentless pursuit of understanding."
"They meticulously studied the energies of the Great Fracture, dissected the biology of the mutated creatures, and, most importantly, researched the physiological changes in the naturally mutated humans."
"They tried their best to be able to replicate, control, and standardize the mutation ."
"And".
*CLICK*
"they succeeded."
The lady said as she clicked her fingers in the air, the individual with the suitcase came forward and opened the case and revealed what was inside.
Little oval-like pills, the size of a drug, each brown in color and all of them having specific patterns running through them, and the flow of energy through these patterns was obvious.
The teenagers couldn't believe what their eyes were showing them; it was unbelievable.
These were mutation pills, and a large quantity of them.
"What you are about to undergo is not the chaotic, unpredictable mutation of the Great Fracture. No, Instead, it is the pinnacle of decades of scientific advancement. Thanks to the breakthroughs made by dedicated scientists, we now possess the knowledge and the means to induce a controlled mutation. This process ensures a more stable, more predictable, and ultimately, a more usable set of abilities, tailored for combat and survival in our fractured world."
The lady said, a huge smile on her face as if she was pleased with her explanation.... If only she knew that most of what she said, non of them understood à single thing .
She once again pushed her glasses back up, like they were about to fall. Then she reached out her hand and brought out a single pill from the case and raised it up for all the students to see .
" its with honor that I present to you all , the Earth mutation pill "
