Fai had been intently listening to everything the scientist, Janet, was explaining, her talk of how mutants originated, their hierarchical ranks, and specifically, the theory of the mutant core.
When Fai first acquired the system, his initial thought was that he had somehow become a mutant. The way the system operated and even his skill, Fae Eyes, had convinced him of it; he was a mutant.
However, listening closely to Janet's detailed explanation of mutants, he came to the startling realization that he had been wrong all along.
For one, he did not possess a Mutant Core, and if he lacked one, it logically meant he couldn't utilize a mutant ability.
Yet, he had been using Fae Eyes for a considerable time without ever feeling a core within him.
Another crucial point was the ranking system she outlined. From her explanation, she stated that the ranking commenced at the Bronze stage, which was considered the lowest.
But the stage his own system displayed was 'Seedling Stage'.
All these subtle inconsistencies continued to accumulate in his mind, solidifying his suspicion that the system was anything but a mutant ability.
Yet, he still felt uncertain about his own conclusion, so he had formulated an idea.
This was precisely how he ended up asking his question.
Hearing the question, Janet's smile remained.
"While very rare, it is not an impossibility," she clarified. "You see, the science of mutants is still nascent; it hasn't existed for long.
Consequently, there are cases, scenarios, and events that we cannot yet fully explain, and what you've just described falls into that category."
Her answer was not what Fai had anticipated. He had been expecting a definitive 'no' as his response,
which would have meant that if he were to take the mutant pill and it activated a mutant core, the system he possessed was not his mutant ability.
However, from her response, if the pills did activate a core within him, it could potentially mean he had the capacity for two mutant abilities.
Pondering all of this, Fai could only ask himself, 'What truly is this Fairy System?'He thought .
"However, if you ever happen to encounter someone with such a rare ability," Janet advised, a hint of seriousness in her tone, "my recommendation is that you do everything within your power to remain on their good side."
Janet concluded.
But Fai wasnt done , raising his hand once again, Fai signaled he had another question.
"Although I'm quite enthusiastic about the fact of becoming a mutant," Fai stated, his voice unwavering, "I'm certain of one thing: nothing in this world truly comes for free. So, tell us, what's the catch?"
He was absolutely convinced. The fact that they were being offered these pills for free made no sense to him whatsoever.
For one, the pills were incredibly difficult to acquire, and the public's high demand only exacerbated the market's monopoly.
To put it simple, encountering a mutant pill was challenging, and purchasing one was even more so than one could imagine.
But here they were, an abundance of pills, more than their eyes could count, laid out before them, and they were being presented with an opportunity to receive them for free? "Nah," Fai thought. "There must be a price to pay."
Janet was taken aback by the words that left the young teenager's mouth.
In all her years of conducting assessments, never had she encountered a student with such a cautious mentality.
Usually, students were overjoyed at the golden opportunity to become mutated humans. But here, before her very eyes, was a student questioning their offer.
"Okay," Janet conceded, her smile softening slightly.
"I suppose it's normal to be cautious, but you genuinely don't have to worry."
"Of course, I can't dispute the fact that nothing is truly free in this world, and everything operates on a give-and-take basis,"
She acknowledged. "But unlike what you might be imagining, this particular case is different; it truly is free.
Nevertheless, free or not, the undeniable truth is that if you were to participate in the assessment without being a mutant, you are guaranteed to lose."
The lady spoke, her smile now gone, replaced by a serious expression. The truth was, the Supreme Commander himself had conceived the idea.
The initial plan was to aid those who weren't mutated in participating fairly in the assessment.
However, as time progressed, those who became mutants through this method would be compelled to serve under the military if they wished to enhance their strength,
since all resources for their mutant growth could only be found within the military itself.
This was precisely what Fai was desperate to avoid.
"However, if you strongly believe in your principles of give and take, you could choose to work under one of the factions supported by the military Guild: The Black Tiger Guild,"
The lady explained, her gaze sweeping over the students, expecting someone to voice a concern.
When she heard none, she turned and began moving toward the back.
"Okay, now that there are no more questions, you will all be handed the pills. Once you have them, all you need to do is swallow them and allow the pill to take effect. And just as simply as that, you will become Earth Mutants with an Earth Mutant Core and a mutant ability."
As she uttered these words, the man with the suitcase began circulating among the students, while someone by his side handed out the pills.
The students, upon hearing the explanation and understanding how to use the pills, couldn't help but be utterly amazed.
Such a small object was destined to have a monumental impact on their lives, something so small , yet imbued with profound significance.
Wasting no time, some of the students immediately followed the procedure Miss Janet had outlined..
Swallowing the pills, they felt the effects almost instantaneously.
An energizing sensation surged through them; they suddenly felt completely transformed as the pill's energy circulated throughout their entire bodies.
Their vision became remarkably clearer, and they grew more acutely aware of their surroundings, all five of their senses becoming significantly enhanced, a distinct advantage mutated humans held over normal ones.
They were now Mutants
