Chapter 15 - Chapter 14:The Fundamentals of Mutation

The Fundamentals of Mutation

When the lady finished speaking, a wide, unwavering smile remained fixed on her face. It was undeniably clear that she loved her work, driven not merely by financial gain, as was common for many, but by genuine passion.

With her detailed explanation concluded, she gently lowered the gleaming pill back into its case, handling it as if it were an artifact of immeasurable value, which it was .

"Now that my explanation is complete," she announced, her gaze sweeping across the eager students, "you are welcome to voice any concerns or questions you might have."

From the throng of students, a young girl tentatively raised her hand, her gesture reminiscent of a classroom setting, signaling she had a question .

Her dark, curly hair cascaded gracefully down her shoulders, complementing her striking pink eyes.

Had it not been for the scars marring her face, she would have been considered a true beauty.

"Well, Miss..." the girl began, a slight stammer, she was uncertain of how to address the esteemed scientist.

"Janet, you may call me Miss Janet," the scientist interjected, her voice warm and inviting.

"Miss Janet," the girl continued, gaining confidence, "from your explanation, you mentioned that the first mutated humans were created from the lingering energy that entered our world following the catastrophe, correct?" She asked, seeking confirmation of her understanding.

"Yes, that's correct," Miss Janet affirmed, a nod, She elaborated further,

"Indeed, it was a direct consequence of the catastrophe that this foreign energy permeated our world, fusing with human genes to give rise to the very first mutants."

"Okay, but then,"

the teenager pressed, her brow furrowed in confusion as she looked at Miss Janet,

"wouldn't that imply that we, as humans, should still be capable of undergoing mutation without the need for these pills? I mean, since that energy was responsible for their transformation, it should naturally do the same for us, right?" She awaited an answer, her expression a mix of curiosity and perplexity.

Upon hearing the young girl's insightful question, Miss Janet's smile widened even further. "What a brilliant question!" she exclaimed, her admiration evident. "This truly demonstrates that you were paying close attention."

Being an educator was a noble profession, yet its purpose would be entirely lost if the individuals or students being taught lacked any genuine interest in the subject matter.

"Indeed, the energy was responsible for the genesis of the first mutant humans,"

Miss Janet explained,

"but regrettably, that energy did not persist within our world for long. It was almost as if the energy was never truly meant to reside here, its sole purpose being to fuel the opening of those dimensions.

And immediately after those dimensions were opened, the energy, as swiftly as it arrived, vanished without a trace."

she said, giving a complete answer to The young girls question

" However, the effects of this energy were not instantaneous, and their manifestation varied greatly from person to person.

For some, the results could be observed within months, while for others, it could take up to a year or even two."

"Have I fully answered your question, or do you still have more concerns?" the scientist inquired, her gaze fixed directly on the young teenager who had posed the question.

"Thank you, Miss Janet, I have no further worries," the young teenager replied.

"Good. Is there anyone else among you who still has a concern?" the scientist asked once more.

The students remained in silence for a moment, their collective gaze shifting between Miss Janet and one another.

No one else appeared to have a pressing question, or perhaps they were simply intimidated by the stern military personnel standing around her.

Miss Janet's smile softened, a quiet satisfaction blossoming in her eyes. It was abundantly clear that she genuinely cherished these interactions, finding the intellectual curiosity of the younger generation to be a true hallmark of scientific research.

But the silence did not last long. Soon, another hand could be seen rising into the air. This time, it belonged to a young male with dirty brown hair.

"Yes, you over there. Tell us your concern," Janet said, ready to address any question the student might have.

"Actually, Miss, I was wondering," the young man began, "when a human undergoes mutation, does their

mutation ability or the mutation process itself determine the level of strength one is destined to have?

For instance if I gain an mutation, will I be stronger than a fire mutant , like is their strength determined by fate, or is there a tangible way to increase one's power after mutation?"

"Ooh, a sharp one!" she remarked,

"That is indeed a profound question. To answer it, you need to grasp a fundamental concept, which is the ranking of mutated hunters.

Mutated hunters, or humans, however you wish to refer to them, are categorized into distinct stages, all dependent on the hunter's mutant core."

"Now, I suppose you might all be asking yourselves, 'What exactly is a mutant core?' Well, allow me to clarify.

When a human undergoes mutation into a mutant, a unique entity forms deep within them, specifically near the abdominal region,

below where you were once connected to your mom. It is there that it takes shape."

"It's called a mutant core. The primary function of this core is to store energy, and the energy stored within it is precisely what one needs to harness their mutated powers or abilities.consider it as some type of battery.

Without energy in their core, they are rendered incapable of utilizing their abilities," she continued her explanation.

"Now, depending on your stage as a mutant, the amount of energy you can possess is limited to that specific stage.

These stages include Bronze, Copper, Silver, Gold, Diamond, and the Platinum stages, ranging from the lowest to the absolute highest."

"Although it's often stated that the Platinum stage is the final one, in truth, the stages I've just listed are merely the ones that humans have successfully managed to reach.

The number of individuals who have achieved the Platinum stage can, in fact, be counted on both my hands. Furthermore,

while I mentioned that we've discovered a method to control the mutation process, we've only found a way to significantly increase the chances of survival during the transformation.

How powerful one becomes after the process remains unknown and can potentially be influenced by certain criteria.

For example, the individual's strength prior to mutation could be a factor, but still, as I said before, it's uncertain.

Some individuals might be fortunate enough to skip a certain number of stages after mutation, while others may not."

"And of course, there absolutely is a way to become stronger after the mutation process, but that is something you will learn later on, specifically for those who successfully pass the assessment, of course.

After all, we are not in a classroom setting, and that is not my specific field of expertise,"

she concluded, certain that she had provided a comprehensive answer to the young teenager's inquiry.

"I'm guessing I've answered your question, young one," she stated, looking expectantly at the boy.

"Yes, Miss, thank you," he responded, offering a small bow as a sign of respect.

"Then, if there are no further questions, I believe we can proceed to the next phase," she announced, turning to move away. It was then that she heard another voice.

"I do have a question, Miss," a young man with black, curly hair and a smooth face stated.

Hearing this, Janet turned back around, her perpetual smile still in place.

"Is it possible for someone to possess two mutant abilities?" Fai asked.
