Over 1000 years later....
The murmuring sound of students whispering to each other filled the austere looking classroom of Navaliae academy, the one and only institution of learning for demons in the kingdom of Navalia established just eight centuries ago.
The academy took in students at the age of 10 through a screening process where the demon's mana capacity, strength and affinity were tested. The mana capacity was tested first and the average magic-using demon's capacity, which became the academy's cut off, was three petals. The expression of one's mana capacity always came in the form of flowers and the greater the number of petals, the greater amount of mana the person had. In rare cases where the demon possessed lesser number of petals but was from a respected family in favor with the demon king, a paid admission would be allowed. Such persons were however ostracized once in school and took no part in any of the school's events.
Once the mana capacity was certified to be three petals or higher, their affinity was tested next using mana shards of various elements. Mana shards were aggregations of minute particles that formed from the clumping of mana and their elements were dependent on their nature. Each candidate would receive an assortment of mana shards that they were to try and imbue their mana in. usually, when mana of varying elements interact, a chain of reactions usually ending with a light explosion occurs thus making mana shards of opposing element break. The only shard that was left in tact determined one's mana affinity.
There were fundamentally four mana elements used by demons due to the dark nature of their magic; black fire, blood, lightning and space. Each element was further classified based on their strength and this was the last test conducted. The conditions for this test varied depending on the candidate's affinity.
The black fire element had five ranks; the ignatius flame, the demon fire, hell's flame, dragon breath and the fire of hades. The blood element had three ranks; parasyte, blood mage and blood master. The lightning element had two ranks; devil rain and sky of hades. Finally the space element, the rarest of all, had two known ranks; tellurian class and galactic class.
The academy was the largest and second tallest building the whole of kingdom Navalia with its compound spanning about 20,000 acres. The study, living, staff and recreation quarters were all located at various castles placed at diffeent corners and linked by long walled pathways so the entire campus assumed a square shape. A large field of black naval grass, usually used to test excessively great magic powers filled the center and in its middle stood a tower that stood far taller than any other building on the campus. No student was allowed there and none of the rebellious ones that tied to sneak there succeeded so its use remained unknown.
In all, Navaliae academy was one of the greatest assets of the navals and thus the best place to make connections. Every demon of noble origin and every demon with the opportunity born in the last 800 years attended the school and graduated from its 10-year curriculum.
Being demons, hierarchy and connections were everything so there was obvious segregation amongst the students and even the staff. Those of lower standing received classes separate from those of high standing. There were, however, some exceptions.
Aryan Kade was an example of such exceptions. An orphan who was half demon and half ascent, how he got to the academy in the first place was a great mystery. His admission and remain at the school for seven years now was actually justified as he had the largest mana capacity ever known, his manifestation being a whole stem with multiple black roses sticking out of it. His mana affinity was never determined as all the mana stones given to him shattered and thus, his mana strength never accessed.
His tutelage was done separately in a different building by specially hired demons of noble lineage that were to keep his existence a secret. He was completely isolated from the rest of the school, but that didn't bother the teen at all. In fact, he quite enjoyed having so much personal space.
