DRYSTAN
"Nathan!" Lucifer snarls and his guard whirs past me in a blur.
When I turn around, I see him supporting Adeline.
But what catches me off guard is that Adeline is looking at my brother's shadow guard with a kind of gaze that makes my blood boil.
I take a step forward but she turns suddenly, her eyes meeting mine for a moment before she gazes at my brother.
Something flickers in her eyes, something I cannot quite put a finger on but I catch onto that look.
"You must be mistaken, Lucifer. She is a criminal of mine, not your fated mate!" As I speak, I stride forward and snatch Adeline out of Nathan's grip.
Only when I feel her warmth in my arms does my agonized heart finally calm down.
"A mistake, you say? Drystan, who knows it better than you that I don't make mistakes?"
I open my mouth to retort but suddenly, the woman in my arms sways. One moment, she is held in my arms and the second, her entire body lolls to the side. Lifelessly.
My arms stiffen.
