ADELINE
"Adeline, when are you going to wake up? I cannot bear to see you suffer like this anymore…"
I hear Lola's voice breaking as she applies the medicine on my wounds.
She drapes the sheets over me and soon leaves the room.
The moment the door shuts with a soft 'bam', I open my eyes slowly. For a moment, my vision remains dark before slowly adjusting to the pale moonlight subtly lightening up the pitch black room.
'I am sorry, Lola. I have let down your genuine care,' I look in the direction of the door.
'Rustle'
My heart freezes. Someone is here.
A glint of silver catches my eyes before I close them again.
The sound of footsteps draws closer to me, ushering forward a faint fragrance of cold incense and frost covered pine.
I hold my breath. My pretense of being unconscious has been perfect the entire day. I cannot let myself be caught at this crucial moment or it will drag me to the center of all problems.
The mattress sinks and a touch of cold air caresses my body.
