Chapter 33 - Dispute Settlement

Max and Sophia were also requested to follow them to the police station, so they can file a complaint against the aggressors.

They obediently followed them to the nearby parking area, where a few vehicles were waiting. They soon boarded them with the preparators, who widened their eyes in an attempt to intimidate them. However, Max and Sophia ignored their angry expressions and turned their attention to the receding city structures, marveling at the impressive construction.

Soon they reached a building which looked like a modern police station, where regular guards are moving in and out of the building.

Soon they were escorted to the head of the station office, where Max and Sophia were asked to sit comfortably, while Joseph and the Blake gang were taken to another room for temporary imprisonment.

Soon, an officer approached them with a pad of paper and a pen, handing it over while requesting them to write the complaint and describe the incident honestly, as the entire scene had been recorded.

Max took the notepad and began writing about the incident truthfully, as he had no intention of fabricating the facts.

He quickly filled out the paper, signed his name, and handed it to Sophia to review. He asked her to check for any mistakes and, if she found it agreeable, to sign it as her agreement.

Sophia swiftly took a brief look and signed the paper and passed the complaint paper to the waiting officer.

The officer then checked the complaint and then stamped it and took the complaint paper to the head of the department.

Then they were asked to wait as the head of the station to come as he is currently out of the station.

Soon Max and Sophia were only left in the room, and they began to observe the room now as the got the leisure time.

The Room was huge as they observed, it has many amenities necessary to stay for few days if they were held back by work.

Max also saw through the window where there are sleeping quarters for the working staff.

As Max was observing the office the door was pushed open and a middle-aged man came into the office from the outside.

Max and Sophia observed him, and the middle-aged man noticed them as well. He quickly became cautious and, seeing them rise to greet him, hurriedly asked them to sit down, insisting that no formalities were necessary.

Max and Sophia were baffled by the respectful demeanor of the chief and sat there, utterly puzzled.

By seeing their confused manner, the chief laughed and started talking.

"I'm coming back from the lord's castle right now so there was none present in the room." the chief said

As soon as the chief said he has been to the castle Max understood that Iris has arranged things for them in the city to travel freely.

As the chief noticed the look of realization on Max's face, he said, "Yes, the island lord has shared your information and instructed us to ensure you are protected from being bullied in the city. We were also told to assign at least two guards for your daily security."

"I have decided to assign two female guards as your guides during your stay in the city. They will also serve as a deterrent in case you encounter any issues with others," the chief said.

Soon another officer came and submitted the case file of Max and Sophia which he read and calmly put aside and asked them to leave the office as the island lord might be waiting for your return.

"I will handle the criminals according to law, I will make sure they were heavily punished and don't come to you for retaliation after they were released." the chief assured them

Max and Sophia said their goodbyes and happily walked away, leaving the officer puzzled. He had just submitted the file and couldn't understand the chief's unusually friendly behavior. Typically, the chief would issue stern warnings to everyone involved in a fight to deter them from repeating the same mistake.

Noticing the officer's doubt, the chief coughed, hid his kind expression, and returned to his usual stern demeanor.

After Max and Sophia hailed a cab and left the office premises, only then the officer asked if they were important people.

To his question the chief remained silent for a second and said the lad who we talked is the elder brother of the island lord who has just come after surviving on the harsh ocean.

As soon as the officer heard that Max was the lord's brother, he broke out in a cold sweat and started recalling if he had done anything inappropriate or been unusually harsh. After realizing he had treated them as he normally did, with the same respect he showed to others who came to complain, he let out a sigh of relief.

The chief dismissed the officer to continue his duties and began pondering how to deal with the criminals, who were not residents but ship captains. This complicated matters, as the island relied on the ship captains for their essential work in the near future.

Then he came up with an idea: he would ask them to join the island lord's faction. This would allow them to escape punishment for their crime while receiving subsidies under the lord's management. In return, they would represent the lord during their future voyages.

For those who don't agree, the officers will confiscate the property they have with them, leaving only the ship as punishment. This will serve as an example for anyone who tries to behave inappropriately without respecting the law on the island.

Soon, the chief opened the cell where the culprits were imprisoned and began lecturing them about the laws of the island. When he felt it was sufficient, he immediately announced the price they had to pay for committing crimes in broad daylight. With solid evidence proving their guilt, he issued the punishment he had decided upon.

Soon, they all broke down and started cursing each other with such vulgar language that it made the chief's ears bleed. He had to intervene with force to stop them from fighting and managed to make them agree to join the island as employees. He promised them to be ready to meet the island lord the next morning, as he would take them to sign the contract.
