Chapter 24 - Before the bonfire

Damon's POV

The stadium was already filling up by the time I stepped into the cold morning air. Aven and Tristan were already fed up with waiting for me to get ready and come out of my room. Today was the Moonfall Remembrance Day.

I didn't desire to be here; I'd rather be lying in my bed or getting drunk in a bar for Remembrance Day. But someone made me come here, I think that's also what made Tristan, who never liked this day, so eager to come. 'Aria'

I adjusted the edge of my shirt as I drew closer to the rows of chairs, scanning the arena to see if I could spot her. But there wasn't any sign of her anywhere. I felt disappointed because I was late, and I thought she should have been here by now.

I found a seat toward the edge, far enough from anyone I knew. Or thought I knew. But I noticed that I drew attention; I wasn't expected to be there.

"Damon! Over here!" Tristan called out from our usual spot at the elevated platform. Although I wanted to be here in case she came, I would easily find her, but she wasn't here, so I decided to just go over to my friends.

I glanced over the stadium once again to see if I could see her, but I could only see Tracy and her fellow cheerleaders dressed in their usual cheer wear and chatting away.

"You okay?" Tristan asked. His voice was more concerned than usual.

I nodded. "Maybe I just miss seeing someone."

He looked triggered at first. I understand he would feel that way, but besides, he must have known who I was referring to, "Our mate"

From the stage, Headmistress Lauren raised her hand, and the crowd grew silent. A cold air washed through the entire premises.

"Today, we remember when history was made, and how we came into existence...," she started, and I completely tuned off. I've heard this over and over again—my dad, my mom, this school, over and over again.

I wished that if I looked deeper into the crowd, I'd see her. I didn't know why I missed her so much. The plan was to make her love me and then leave, but why am I the one longing for her? Why am I getting fond of her?.

As time passed, I wanted to leave. Tristan was the first to get up, and Aven and I followed

There will be a bonfire event tonight to commemorate the event. I hope she will come around.

Andria's POV

"There will be a bonfire this night, I hope you will come?" Larissa informed me with so much excitement in her voice, and then she turned towards Mel.

"We are going to force her even if she doesn't want to come."

"Well, I never left, I'm still here." She spoke as if I wasn't around her, so I needed to remind her that I'm still here, hello! And we all burst out laughing.

"I'll be there at the bonfire, not because y'all told me, but because I need the air."

"Or because you want to meet them?" Mel teased, and then she and Larissa shared a knowing look.

"Meet who? Oh, please step aside," I responded with a rather ridiculous voice that betrayed the fact that I wanted to see them, maybe, but Athena is the one to blame for those feelings.

"I'll be heading to my room to rest, so that I can prepare for the bonfire. I've had a long day." I stood up to leave, but Mel held me.

"Are you trying to tell us that you didn't meet any of them?" I could sense the playful but curious tone.

"Well, sorry to disappoint you, now let go of my hands."

"Ok", Mel said, raising her hands in the air.

I rolled my eyes playfully at her and headed straight to my room, shutting the door right behind me.

I set an alarm before I dozed off. I don't want to miss the event. It sounds fun, at least from Larissa and everyone in class. It seems like they always anticipated it.

I'm not going there because of the fun, I'm going there because Aven needed some confrontation for what he did with thebook of myths, and I can't wait for tomorrow.

The alarm woke me up from my sleep, and it felt like I hadn't slept enough, as if the alarm rang immediately after I closed my eyes.

I could see the fireworks from the stadium through my window. The night was livelier than usual. It's two hours to midnight and I need to hurry to meet my deadline.

I could hear Mel and Larissa's voices behind my door; they were already prepared, judging from the clinking of heels.

I hurried to freshen up, put on a makeover, and put on a gown and a pair of heels. I got this pair of clothes from my years of savings, at least the Falcons didn't deny me the right to my allowance, although it was lower than Lena's own by a long margin.

I stormed out of my room, hoping they hadn't left me yet, and when I saw that they just sat comfortably on the sofa debating who should knock on my door, I adjusted my dress and walked up to them.

"How do I look?" I turned around for them to assess my dressing.

"Thank goodness you are done, we didn't know who would come wake you up this time, considering that you never open the door and you act strangely when you wake up from your sleep," Mel announced happily. I'm getting used to her childlike excitement.

"Ok, since her royal majesty is out of her room, we may now leave." The tone of Larissa's voice seemed playful, but I could sense a hint of mockery and jealousy, or maybe it's just paranoia from the years of suffering under a jealous sister.

I shoved down the feeling, "Well, let's go have fun."

As we stepped into the stadium, I noticed that everyone looked extra shiny, like they were going to a carnival, each of their dresses telling a story of the origin of the werewolves and stories in between.

We moved to the far end of the stadium. The fireworks were colouring the air, and everyone was lively. Unlike the long talk and exposition by the heads of the school in this stadium this morning, which I gladly missed, this event was the main event.

"Oh, you are here!" Tracy and her squad merrily ran towards me, like we were friends before, and I wondered what had happened.
