Chapter 26 - The Sigil has been breached

 Aven's POV

Aria sounded really furious, and I just couldn't take those harsh words from her. Telling me to shut it, such audacity, but I'll let it slide just this one time.

"Hmm, is that the way to plead with me to release your favorite… What's the name of that book again?" Tristan had already moved to the seat to her left, while I took the vacant seat on her right.

She balled her hands into a fist as if she would have hit me if she could, and I just found it cute.

Her face flushed and turned bright pink. I could perceive her scent more pronounced today than yesterday.

She shifted uneasily on her seat as I leaned toward her ears to whisper, "I've released your book, and you can also take it wherever you wish because it's now yours." I raised my phone to show her the proof of my conversation with the librarian.

Her face lit up in surprise, then turned stern immediately as if she had just caught herself doing something wrong.

"I didn't ask for special favors, but thanks anyway," she shot me a glare, then stood up to go. I was trying to stop her when my phone rang, and I let go of her hands, and she took off immediately.

Why is Dad calling me now? He only calls when there's an emergency, and I put my phone back into the pockets of my trousers.

Aria was already at the stadium's exit, and I noticed some males following her immediately; she was speeding off like lightning into the dark. Her scent was so noticeable, and lustful wolves might attack her.

The thought of other wolves laying their hands or claws on my mate made my blood boil. My phone rang again; this time, it was my father's right-hand man. I wonder what has gone wrong.

Tristan's phone rang, and he looked up at me. " Your dad," he handed his phone over to me.

Just then, I felt a sharp pain in my chest. Something must have happened to Aria, and then it clicked. 'Those males….she was being followed, and her scent was undeniable.'

Tristan gave me a look, and I knew instantly that he felt the same thing I just felt. I stood up in haste; Damon was already by my side.

"I think Aria is in danger," Damon's voice was tense as he informed us. He moved to the exit before I could react. I'm not letting these two play hero and win her first.

I moved swiftly, matching Tristan and Damon's fast pace. I let Ardyn take over, my bones cracking, hair pulling out of my body as I raced, trying to trace her scent.

I could smell her as I ran, but the pain in my chest worsened. I ran following the sensation I felt on my chest till I could perceive her scent.

It was faint; the scent was coming from outside the school. I wondered what had happened to her and how she could be taken so far, bless their souls, I'm going to devour them.

Ardyn couldn't hide his excitement and anger, excited because he was going to teach some creatures a lesson and angry because they dared to touch his mate.

"Leave me alone, scumbags," I heard Aria's voice from a distant signaling we were close to her. She let out a loud growl this time, and there they were, she was a silver wolf, her eyes glistened gold.

Suddenly, we weren't just three, we were four. Zade, the Alpha of the Silvernight pack, was here also.

My blood boiled as I beheld the sight before me, six stray wolves trying to mark her; her scent must have attracted these strays.

Immediately, they sensed us; they stopped their advances towards her and turned to face us. Their aura was very weak, but the leader of their gang tried to look strong.

I saw many ways to snap him in two, having first-hand experience fighting vampires and executing rebellious wolves.

Some of them cowered in fear; I could tell that our auras combined intimidated them. The air was tense, and Ardyn grew impatient.

"You made a mistake when you chose to prey on our mate." Tristan challenged, and as if on cue, we charged forward. I lunged for their leader, and I made sure to leave my signature on his ugly wolf.

In less than thirty seconds, we made them pay for pulling that stunt on our mate. They passed out one after the other.

I turned to where Aria had been, and she had already slumped. She had shifted back into her human form before slumping.

Damon was already close, trying to lift her from the wet grass. I wanted to swap places immediately. How did he manage to get to her so fast?

"She has passed out," Zade called out to us. Just then, my phone rang, and I remembered I had a pressing matter to attend to.

I had to hear what my dad had to say, so I answered the phone call.

"You haven't been picking your calls, I demand an answer," he roared on the phone, his voice was agitated, and before the words slipped out of his mouth, I knew.

"There's an emergency that needs your attention as my successor." his voice was stern, but I could also sense worry and anxiety.

I wondered what it was this time. I put the call on hold to finish what I had already started.

"We have to hurry, I have a pressing matter to attend to," I was getting very impatient. We headed towards her, Tristan offering to carry her.

The bonfire night was over, and the stadium was empty like no one was ever there; the only thing that could remind you that there was ever a human presence were the litter of balloons and ribbons used for the celebration.

"Where is her apartment?" I asked as we got to the female dormitory gate.

"I know exactly where it is," Tristan gestured towards her apartment. Has he been stalking her? I've known Tristan to be many things except a stalker.

We forcefully opened the apartment door, ignoring the excited look on her flat-mates' eyes. We moved straight to her room, forced the door open, and laid her on the bed.

I couldn't stay there any longer, so I excused myself. "I'll take my leave now."

"Our mate needs you now," Zade spoke in an annoying tone that sounded more like a judgment than a plea.

If he weren't mated to Aria, I would have taught him a few of my lessons. I stared him in the face, and he didn't dare to look up or talk back again.

"I'll be back soon," I referred to Tristan and Damon before leaving the dorm.

I got back to my room, it's pretty ironic how my room is as large as her room and sitting room combined.

I got back on the phone with my dad as I pulled my clothes into my box.

His voice sounded more urgent this time, "The sigil has been compromised."
