Chapter 24 - Special Chapter 2: Half The Half-Wit Council And Their Lord

"What do you think?" Halsan stated, with a voice but a hushed whisper planning conspiracy. His trusted friends, Byurik and Leeson paced his office anxiously, two thirds of the lovingly named "Half-Wit Council" which included their other close friend Teacher.

"The man is an enigma, only the gods know him well and I don't think they're on speaking terms." Leeson chuckled nervously, fully aware his words were terrifyingly accurate.

"The fact is, he is not a good man by nature. He has overcome enough hardships to surpass that warped and twisted nature though... You can see the weight of his sins crushing him with every step he takes." Byurik added, his Draconic ancestry turning his voice more gutteral as he tensed.

The three sighed, their self-imposed tension relieving in an instant, everyone, including the maid and butler on standby, wondering how many times they would replay this same setting. Their friend was deeply compassionate but at the same time impossibly dangerous and changing drastically.

He had turned his back on divine duty, spat in the face of a god, ended a war, killed an immortal and threatened a divine agent he himself acknowledged as fundamentally more powerful. To make matters worse he had done all that in a few short months, the effects of his potential downfall would be cataclysmic in proportions.

They needed to sure up the foundations of his character to prevent that potentiality, the question was how?

"How do we keep his head above the flood of his own past? We can't even comprehend the most basic points of his existence and as dear as he is to us..." Halsan stopped, his fists clenched in impotent rage. "...To believe we understand him would be arrogant. Even he doesn't thanks to the gaps and alterations to his memory."

Byurik and Leeson exchanged glances, they knew he was right, but they had more opportunity to observe him in his quiet moments and his noisey ones. "I think he already has what he needs, he just doesn't know it, or even consider it. Everything he currently has is all he needs, we just need him to realise it."

Leeson speaking so sincerely left them surprised, he was by far the most changed by their mutual friends influence. His childish tendancies had become more liberal certainly, but most significantly was his fresh motivation, Teacher had set the bar of ability so high his "meager" talent was a wound to his warrior's pride. He had witnessed his friend inflict horrors upon men who had commited unspeakable evils and that same man wipe a forest clear of monsters, simply because a young girl had a habit of roaming there.

To say he held Teacher in reverance wouldn't be a stretch, though no one had ever stated as much. He couldn't help but revere such final, unstoppable and indefensible action.

"What do you mean? He does what he thinks is right at any given moment, normally I'd applaud such a man... The issue is his mind and body move so fast a moment for us is dozens of not hundreds for him. He is too used to being the judge of worlds, he needs to learn to be just him." Byurik, elected to be the critical eye, found himself forcing criticisms he struggled to believe himself.

"What I mean is just that.. He has a woman who loves him, several who fancy him not that he cares. Young Fala to ground him, keep him focused on defense rather offense. Now he just needs to be left alone long enough to let down the thousands of years worth of defenses." Leeson spoke, speaking of miracles as daily occurrence.

"Do you think he'll get that chance?" Halsan asked, a tone of genuine hope. Then the three men looked amongst themselves as their stomachs began to growl.

"Perhaps not... But maybe just maybe... We can stay close enough to be a buffer between him and any threats for a time." Leeson said as mirthful mischievousness heightened the usually low tone of his authorative voice.

Halsan cleared his throat politely before giving a gentle nod. "Yes, that sounds a splendid idea, we should be there, for our friend of course... Sometimes one most impose himself on someone for their own good." He rambled, forcing the excuse into existence.

"You two are unbelievable. If you want to go for breakfast at the gluttons home, just go... Thinking about it, the least he can do is feed me to make up for the mountain of paperwork on my desk..." Byurik turned on his heel, leading the abrupt evacuation of Halsan's office. "Maybe a stack of those discs... With the red and purple berries... With that fluffy cream."

The maid and butler let out soft chuckles, as the gutteral voice of the imposing dragon kin guild master faded into the distance talking about childish confections.
