Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Leon

It's only been a week since I found that pendant…And yet, it feels like my life has shifted completely.

Since then, I've been training relentlessly—testing my sword, my body, and this strange new system. I've faced goblins, wild beasts, and a few low-level monsters. None of them could match me anymore. I've grown stronger, faster, more refined.

I already had a strong foundation thanks to my late father, who trained me in swordsmanship before he passed. But now? With the help of the system… I'm sharper than ever.

I've solidified my strength as a Knight-level warrior, something most adventurers never reach. The system has amplified my growth, refining my aura and making each swing of my sword more efficient, more devastating.

I can feel it—I'm evolving.

And with each victory, the screen updates. A divine system of numbers and stats… appearing before my eyes. How it works, I still don't know. But one thing is clear—this is power from a god.

I've also started saying that prayer… five times a day without fail. It came with the system—words etched into my soul. At first, I repeated them instinctively. Now? I say them with conviction.

"O Silent One… God of Fire… Creator of the System…I walk through shadows, seeking flame. Let your spark awaken within me—Ignite my soul, and guide my path."

I don't even fully understand who this god is. Zephry Fallus… the name appeared in my system, but I've never heard it from any church or scholar. As a commoner, I was only taught the names of the gods of the Five Great Churches—gods known across the continent.

But this one? He's different.

Yet somehow… he chose me.

Just yesterday, I was officially promoted to C-Rank Adventurer. The mission was dangerous—hunting a troll near the edge of Vat's territory—but I succeeded. I didn't even need backup.

The system helped. My swordsmanship, backed by the Knight-level aura I inherited from my father, and enhanced through experience, is stronger than ever.

And now, for the first time, I can afford to send my sister Leah to a magic school. She's fifteen, sweet, and all I have left. I've been looking after her since our parents died, but now… I can finally provide the life she deserves.

I'll even teach her the prayer. Maybe she'll be blessed like I was.

Right now, I've saved up 10 silver coins—not bad for a former D-Rank. There's also the chest my parents left behind. I've only taken a bit of it so far; the rest is sealed in our home. Who knows how much it truly holds?

Even though I'm Level 6, I still haven't unlocked a class. The system says it's locked… for now. Maybe I'll need to reach a higher level, or face a trial to unlock it. Either way, I'm ready.

The sun was just starting to dip beneath the rooftops as I walked toward the place I still called home—the edge of the slums in the city of Vat.

The air here was different. Heavy. Dirty. It clung to your skin like regret.

And yet… this is where me and my sister grew up.This crooked alley, this crumbling block, this tiny, half-rotted house tucked between rusted fences and cracked stone walls—it was ours.

As I turned the corner, I saw her standing by the doorway.

"Leon!"

Her voice was bright and warm, like a candle in the dark. She ran to me without hesitation, skirt fluttering behind her, arms already wide. I smiled and caught her in a tight hug, lifting her slightly off the ground.

She was fifteen now, slender and still a little short, with long black hair tied into a ponytail and soft green eyes that always looked up to me with so much trust it made my heart ache. Her face still had that hint of innocence, untouched by the harshness of the world we lived in.

She wore a faded brown dress that was too thin for this weather, but she didn't complain. She never did.

"You're back! Did the mission go well?""Yeah," I nodded, smiling as I set her down. "I made some coin. We'll eat good tonight."

We hugged again—this time slower, tighter, quieter.

Then we headed inside.

The house creaked with every step, the wooden floors warped and scarred from years of wear. The walls were thin, and the windows barely held the cold wind at bay. But this… was home. It always had been.

I knew the kind of place we lived in.The slums of Vat weren't just poor—they were dangerous. Crime, illegal trades, back-alley rituals, forbidden spell exchanges… everything shady in this city crawled here in the dark.

But this was where we came from. And for now, we were surviving.

Still, I've made a promise to myself—and to her.

"Once I reach Elite Knight, we're leaving this place."

I could buy us a mansion in the merchant district, or maybe even near the noble quarters if I rise high enough in the guild. My blade will carve us a future. I won't let her grow up here any longer than she has to.

She has potential—I've seen it in her.

And when I have enough money, I'll buy her magic books. Starter tomes, spell scrolls, maybe even a wand if I can afford it. I want her to become a mage—a real one, not a back-alley fraud. The kind who earns respect and walks tall, even in a world built to crush girls like her.

"Just a little longer," I whispered, watching her stir the pot of soup on our old stove.

As Sara stirred the pot of thin stew, I sat near the window—what little light remained slipping through the cracked shutters. The room was dim, quiet, but peaceful. For a moment, it almost felt like the world outside didn't exist.

I leaned back, letting out a soft breath, and stared at the simple black-red pendant hanging beneath my shirt.

This system... it changed everything.

Since I touched that pendant, my life had taken a path I never imagined. My strength had grown. My aura had sharpened. My heart… felt clearer.

And the god behind it all—the one whose name I had never once heard in the churches, in the guild halls, or even among traveling priests—Zephry Fallus, the God of Fire.

A silent god. A forgotten one.And yet… the only one who ever answered me.

Every time I whispered that prayer, every time I fought and grew, I felt it. Something watching. Guiding. Not with words… but with strength. With purpose. The system wasn't just some magical trick. It was a connection—a bridge between a struggling knight and a god who had been cast into the shadows.

With his system, his blessing, and his silent guidance, I've been able to take my first steps toward true power. And I'm not stopping here.

I want more—not for glory, but for her.For Sara. For us.

"One day," I whispered to myself, gripping the hilt of my sword, "I'll rise beyond Knight… beyond C-Rank… and become a man worthy of his blessing."

And when that day comes, I'll show the world what a forgotten god… and a once-nameless commoner… can truly become.
