Claps and cheers rang out as the students finished singing the Happy Birthday song for Ryan. His ears were bright red, and he stood awkwardly behind the table, which was covered with chocolate and flowers they had given him as gifts. As the class started and students started filing in, they started dropping off their presents before taking their seats.
Having his birthday on Valentine's Day made it easy for everyone to remember. He didn't like to be the center of attention, but it was hard to hide when he was dubbed the child of love. Some people believed that if they gave him gifts, they would get lucky in love, and what better gift to give on Valentine's Day than flowers and chocolate? Every year, Ryan usually received enough chocolate to last him months. And he always ended up giving them away.
"Thank you for your kind words," Ryan said, coughing to cover up his embarrassment. "And the gifts."
