Ryan walked into the cafeteria, looking around. The smell of fried chicken and burnt bread that had accompanied him for almost 7 years washed over him. It was a strange type of comfort. The food wasn't the best. In fact, it was mostly far from good, but it was one of the things that remained constant, no matter how many people came and left. The paints on the walls had faded into a dull cream, making them look somewhat bare. The first time he had walked through the doors they had been bright from a fresh coat of paint.

He spotted the others waving at him from a table by the window. Passing students greeted him all the way till he got to them, some with quick nods as they squurried away, others with cheery hellos and stopping to have a quick word or two. Ryan answered each one politely as he weaved through the crowd.

Alex had ordered food for Ryan, and the others were already halfway through their own meal.
