Carl hurriedly drove them to the vet as the cries of the kitten grew weaker. They didn't know how long the cat had been abandoned for, but it could be dangerous if she went longer without care. The clinic they went to was the same one Ryan always took Adalia to, so he was confident the kitten would do well in their care.
"Hi, Ryan. Hi Carl." The young intern at the counter, Kyley, looked up from her computer and grinned. "I wasn't expecting to see my crushes so soon. What's wrong with Adalia?"
"Oh, she's fine," Ryan said, shifting the blanket carefully in his arms and placing it on the counter. "We found her in the woods."
Kyley's eyes widened as she unwrapped the kitten. It looked even more pitiful under the white light from the ceiling. Patches of missing fur, a dropping tail, multiple small injuries, and scratches, and its ribs were faintly visible beneath the thin coat.
