"You dare insult your alpha queen!" Rane backhanded the woman so hard she stumbled off the porch.
"I'm your queen!" Claws punched through the woman's fingers and she bared her teeth to show animal fangs. "I will kill this imposter. This ... witch."
Cassie felt her body tingle as magic surged. She wasn't entirely in control of her new power. "Rane," she said through gritted teeth. "Move."
He did so without question. She lifted her hands and purple fire emitted from her palms, striking the female werewolf. The woman flew backward, skidding on the concrete walkway. She landed flat on her back on the gravel road.
"Damn," said Rane, looking at her with wide eyes. "Remind me not to piss you off."
Below, the woman fully transformed into a werewolf. White streaked down the middle of her gray fur. In her wolf form, she was huge. And fast. She ran toward Cassie, growling.
