Chapter 48 - Unexpected guest

In the dark prison cell, Seojin's uncle growled in pain. Since he returned to prison, the other prisoners had been giving him a hard time. His entire body was throbbing in pain from all the beating. If he had a mirror right now, he was certain that his face would be all mashed up. Maybe it wasn't a good idea to mess with his half-brother. If he had known that Valentin was that merciless, he wouldn't have touched Seojin and his parents.

"Mr. Han, you have a visitor," a police officer announced.

The once-to-be heir pushed himself up; his limbs were all aching. Who would be visiting him that early in the morning? It didn't matter who the person was. He just didn't want to see Valentin. There was never good news when he met the judge.

It was a bit too dark to see, but Seojin's uncle's jaw dropped when he saw the person standing in front of him. A cold chill ran down his spine as he retreated into his cell. The man wore a black robe that camouflaged him, but Mr. Han still recognized him.

"Long time no see," the man said, crouching to meet Mr. Han's eye level. He smirked as he saw the prisoner's terrified face.

"What are you doing here? Weren't you supposed to be dead?" Mr. Han asked warily. He didn't expect to see a man who was supposed to be dead months ago.

"Aren't you happy to see me?" the man in the black robe asked. His eyebrows frowned in disappointment.

"Of course, I am," the uncle stuttered. "Are you going to get me out of prison?" he added.

The unexpected guest scoffed, "You offended the judge, someone you shouldn't have messed with. There's no way I can get you out now. Because of your failure, I'll have to finish the job myself."

Mr. Han smirked. This time, his dear nephew won't escape death that easily, since that man was going to handle it himself.

"Wait, can't you do something about the other prisoners? They are always giving me sh*t because the judge ordered them to," the uncle pleaded. He was tired of always suffering the one-sided beating. If the bullying continued, he might actually die before he gets a chance to get out of prison.

"You'll have to deal with that yourself," the man said coldly and walked away from he prison cell. His plans were all going smoothly, but that failure just had to ruin everything. It was his fault for putting hope into that incompetent man.

As soon as Valentin entered the prison, the chief of police rushed to him.

"Mr. Vronsky!" the chief of police exclaimed while painting from all the running. He had gotten a call this morning from Valentin, saying that he would visit Mr. Han. He quickly departed from the police station and hurried to the prison just to see Valentin.

"What's going on?" Valentin said worriedly. He told the chief of police to breathe properly before talking.

"I'm sorry, but one of our officers let someone visit Mr. Han without your permission. We will give him proper punishment," the chief of police apologized.

Valentin frowned, clearly displeased with the news. "Do you know who that person is?"

"We have checked the camera footage and questioned the police officer, but we couldn't get any clues on his appearance. He was covered in a black robe," the police explained.

"Can you let me see the camera footage?" Valentin asked.

The chief led Valentin and Seojin to the camera room. As the police said, there was indeed someone who visited Seojin's uncle, and they couldn't see his face. They also couldn't hear their conversation, but it seemed like Mr. Han was afraid of that person. Who could it be?

"That might be a problem," Valentin said. The uninvited guest might be an accomplice, and he could potentially harm Seojin.

"I'm terribly sorry for our poor security. When we interrogated the police officer, he said that he had been bribed by that man."

"We don't need someone who is easily tempted by money," Valentin said.

Understanding his words, the chief quickly said, "Since he had violated the rules, he will be fired. I'll prepare his resignation myself."

Valentin nodded, satisfied that the chief was quick-witted.

"I'll also prepare a team to search for this man's location and identity, since he might also be a suspect related to the murder," the police added. He had to plan everything perfectly so Mr. Vronsky wouldn't worry too much about it. The police stations still relied on him for his support and donations.

After the chief returned to his office to work on this case, Valentin asked Seojin, "Do you know who it might be?"

The kid shook his head and replied, "There has never been a case like that in my past life."

Noticing the judge's worried eyes, Seojin reassured him that he was strong enough to take care of himself.

'Right, I forgot that he was the male lead who killed over a dozen people in his past life,' Valentin thought. The novel only mentioned some of the people he killed. The insignificant characters were glossed over. But, considering the number of relatives he killed, he was considered a mass murderer in the novel. Even some of the readers found that his revenge was a bit too bloody.

"Wow, another unexpected guest. How are you doing, my dear nephew?" Seojin's uncle asked as he saw Valentin accompanied by Seojin.

His uncle was bruised from head to toe. The old and fresh wounds were mixed. It seems like he wasn't living well. Seojin was thankful that the judge was tormenting his uncle in his own way.

"Shut up," Seojin snapped. He thought that he would be calmer since he knew that he was in the world of a novel. But, he still couldn't contain the hate he had for his uncle. The male lead stared at him with murderous eyes. Killing him once wasn't enough to relieve his pain and anger.

His uncle laughed as he saw his angry nephew. "How is life without your parents?" he taunted.

Seojin gripped the metal bars of the prison cell in fury. He wished that the bars weren't there to prevent him from strangling his uncle's throat. Maybe it would be better to kill him after all.
