Chapter 5 - Emptiness

I fell silent and stared blankly, looking around the room while swallowing my saliva.

"No, there isn't."

I replied while lowering my head.

"When you get home from school, wait until I arrive... it won't be long,"

What was she planning, really? She opened the red corridor door and left the health room, then closed it again. Leaving me alone with my thoughts.

Time passed slowly, and I rested my body, lying down in the health room.

How long did I have to wait for her? I couldn't even reach my cell phone, which was in the classroom, far away from here. I tried to call a teacher, but no one passed by this room.

Strange, very strange.

Usually, I always see students, or even health teachers. Did that woman cast a spell on them so they wouldn't come?

I often hear stories about vampires, but in my hometown, they never told them in such detail. I hate my situation of depending on others.

I always twist the fact that I can do everything myself without support or help from others. However, the situation has now reversed.

It's very sad that I even depend on the woman I call a 'monster'. Even though she acts nice, it doesn't change the fact that an evil spirit will always be evil.

I'm still curious about her family background. Is she rich? She confidently wants to 'support' me for the rest of my life, even though there are no witnesses.

Normal people would scapegoat the victim and walk away instead of taking responsibility. Like the mystery dramas I often watch, or maybe not.

In fact, fiction is always the opposite of reality, but not in my current situation.

Feeling hopeless, I looked back at the view through the window to the left of this bed. There was nothing there, just trees and bushes in front. Covering it up,

I tried to open the window with a white frame that could be slid up, then opened it slowly. The atmosphere that day was completely silent. The students should have been doing their activities, what was actually happening?

I tried to peek to the side and,

—Sreengg

The sound appeared again, this time I didn't see who had died.

Only an extraordinary, dizzying pain, so strong that I fell from the bed and my forehead hit the dark brown floor.

I tried to regain consciousness by touching my head with both palms, trying to focus my blurry and hazy vision.

It felt like my head had been hit by a rock─── the only thing I could see was a shelf filled with medicine. I tried to get up using my right leg, which was still functional,

Brak

I found myself falling again, lying on the floor. Not wanting to give up, I dragged myself in a half-prone position, using both hands to pull my body toward the sharp door handle.

I tried to open it, but it was locked.

Damn it!

That bitch was trying to trap me.

"Help! Help me,"

I shouted and banged on the door as hard as I could, but there was no response. In my condition, I couldn't stand up and jump out the window; it would be like trying to kill myself.

The school infirmary was far away, located in the back of the building. It would take hours to get there and drag my body to the classroom.

For the last time, I tried to break down the brown table next to the bed, hoping the door would crack.

Creak

Sure enough, there was a hole in the bottom of the door, right by the handle. So I approached and peeked inside. I looked for something I could use before...

...

Bang

The sound of a gun echoed, blood splattered towards the door corridor.

───────────────

Those seconds were the seconds I was grateful for, because I was trapped in this narrow room. I held the door handle and couldn't breathe at all. Afraid, afraid that They would hear me.

"Report, area 4 is clear. No abnormalities found, returning."

I peeked through the hole under the handle, where I saw three soldiers in military uniforms. I couldn't see their upper bodies, only their uniforms and the strange bags they were carrying.

Everything was pitch black.

"Sir, we haven't checked this room yet."

"...."

One of the soldiers carrying a black sniper rifle spoke. The hairs on the back of my neck stood up, and I felt my hands trembling as I gripped the door handle tightly to keep myself from screaming.

"No need, I don't sense any human presence around here."

"Is everything okay?"

"Yes."

Now the sound of their footsteps was moving away from this room and slowly things became quiet again. Leaving me and possibly the corpse of the person shot by those soldiers.

The smell was unbearable; I couldn't stand the stench. I hoped the woman was still alive, because if not, I would be trapped alone in this room.

That voice never lied.

Strangely, I couldn't see their deaths one by one. Was my ability only effective under certain conditions? Confused, I rubbed my head, but no ideas came to me.

I left myself sitting in front of the door, bending my right leg and leaving my left leg stretched out.

Suddenly, I felt the door slide back and my body touched it, causing me to lose my balance. I was shocked to find that the woman was still alive!

However, she wasn't wearing her usual school uniform, but a school uniform I didn't recognize.

A long dark blue skirt and plain black boots. And the uniform itself—it looked exactly like a sailor's uniform in blue.

With black sleeves or gloves that were pitch black.

I looked up and saw her wearing a mask with wide eyes and a flat mouth like a black line, a pale white mask.

I felt embarrassed for lying on the floor for so long.

"Hey... Makoto."

Startled, I saw the other side of the mask stained with blood. And I didn't notice his left hand holding a long katana sword.

"Hey, what are you going to do?"

My expression turned to confusion, Makoto didn't answer my question, she was silent. I felt something was wrong, I dragged myself backwards and cornered myself against the table I had thrown earlier.

Like a statue, I couldn't see the expression behind the mask. Feeling threatened, I grabbed anything I could use to defend myself.

Ah! A piece of wood,

I pointed the sharp piece of wood at her. My hand was raised and trembling.
