"That is... the true core of our Blood God Army. It's called the Heart of the Blood God," Long Yuxue said solemnly. "The Federation poured countless resources into its development, alongside our research labs. In the entire Federation, there's only one Heart of the Blood God. It can draw upon immense natural energy and convert it into soul power, injecting that into our soul tools to create an energy circulation system. Have you heard of integrated soul power battery packs?"
Gu You furrowed his brow. "Those are used to supply energy to large-scale soul tools, right?"
"Yes. In a way, the Heart of the Blood God functions similarly, but it's based on the latest soul tool technology. It uses a special kind of mutated metal and a matching soul array developed by the Federation. This metal is terrifying. When it mutates, it releases an astronomical amount of energy. When it was first discovered, the Federation's first thought was to weaponize it. That's how the three Godslayer-grade stationary soul cannon shells were born."
"But after testing, those cannon shells were deemed too destructive to use further. And that rare metal—there's very little of it left. All of it was used to create this Heart of the Blood God, just to ensure we could maintain a constant supply of massive energy here and defend this place."
Just then, a low hum echoed across the battlefield. The soldiers at the first defensive line had already retreated. At the tunnel's exit, a blue energy shield quickly formed, sealing the entire entrance.
In less than a minute, a torrent of grey-black energy surged forward, slamming into the barrier. The entire abyssal cavern trembled violently. But this blue shield was much stronger than the first line's defense. Despite the onslaught, it remained unshaken.
Gu You glanced at Long Yuxue. "What happens next?"
She shook her head. "Abyssal tides usually start with waves of destructive energy. That's followed by a massive assault of abyssal creatures. The energy shield can block the destructive force, but it consumes a lot of our power. Once the destructive phase ends, we have to deactivate the shield to conserve energy for the next surge. After that, it's up to the army to deal with the abyssal creatures directly. You should rest while you can—there's definitely a big battle ahead."
Gu You retracted his battle armor. Thanks to the special status of the Special Ops Division, no one questioned them. Meanwhile, more and more Blood God Army soldiers poured in. At the front were warriors in heavy combat mechas—melee specialists. Behind them, soul cannons were being set up, along with long-range attackers readying for the fight.
It was then that Gu You noticed a familiar face—Jiang Wuyue.
Thanks to the Golden Dragon Spear replenishing his energy, Gu You didn't feel exhausted at all. Seeing Long Yuxue deep in meditation, he stood and walked over to Jiang Wuyue.
"Sir!" Gu You saluted.
Jiang Wuyue was in the middle of intense preparations. Seeing Gu You made him pause in surprise. "What are you doing here? Aren't you a new recruit?"
Gu You chuckled. "What, a capable rookie can't show up?"
"That's not what I meant..."
A thought struck Jiang Wuyue. "That enhancement you used on me last time—how many people can you support with it simultaneously?" He hadn't forgotten the incredible boost Gu You's Golden Dragon Domain gave him. Within its radius, his combat strength had increased by at least fifty percent.
Abyssal tides were a huge threat to the Blood God Army, but they were also a massive opportunity—every wave of enemies meant a chance to rack up military merit. With a fifty percent increase in combat ability, that meant far more earned merit.
Gu You looked around the field. "Fifty-meter radius. No limit on the number of people. But the fewer there are, the greater the boost. And soul masters with dragon-type martial souls will benefit the most."
"Got it. Brother, how about joining me?" Jiang Wuyue said immediately. "We'll split the group merit. You'll get your share."
Gu You liked this kind of straightforward attitude. It was exactly what he'd planned anyway.
"Sounds good. I love a proper group fight."
"Done! If this battle goes well, you might get promoted from Second Lieutenant to First Lieutenant in one shot. Ha! This is perfect timing—lucky you joined during my rotation. Getting to face the first wave of abyssal creatures has always been something I've hoped for. And now, we're looking at a Tier Three tide—the first in decades!"
Rather than fear, Jiang Wuyue looked thrilled at the coming fight. In his mind, a soldier's job was to fight and kill on the battlefield. Send him to some peacetime garrison and he'd refuse in a heartbeat. This was where he thrived.
Gu You had a favorable impression of Jiang Wuyue. He was also eager to see just how strong this man really was in combat—and how terrifying the Blood God Army's true strength could be.
His goal in joining wasn't just about climbing the ranks. He wanted to build a force of his own. At first, learning that the Blood God Army was stationed to guard the abyssal passage had disappointed him. Even if he built loyal subordinates here, they couldn't leave this place.
But then he thought, Why not just eliminate the abyssal threat entirely?
If that could be done, then he would truly have his own army—and the freedom to take them elsewhere.
Right now, the Federation didn't tightly control the Blood God Army. There were many generals with independent battalions under their command.
Jiang Wuyue slapped Gu You's shoulder. "Stick with me."
Then he turned back to barking out orders. Gu You noticed that once battle mode was activated, Jiang Wuyue seemed like a completely different person. Calm and precise, unaffected by the rising bloodlust. He handled every detail with professional care.
Soon, his Melee Battalion had erected a steel defense line over 200 meters wide.
From what Gu You observed, the Melee Battalion had around a hundred mechas, all of them at the purple-grade or higher. Even more impressive, five were black-grade mechas.
