Most of them were Six-Clawed Fiends—more than twenty in total. They didn't charge directly, but instead stabbed their claws into the ground. In an instant, a forest of deadly spikes surged forward, spreading across the ground toward Gu You's position. These weren't simple attacks either—they had piercing effects. Which meant even Long Yuxue behind him wasn't safe.
"No problem. Leave it to me!" Gu You shouted.
The spear shadows unleashed by his Golden Dragon Spear grew denser and denser, sweeping out in a storm that instantly shattered the approaching spikes.
Wave after wave of spear shadows tore through the ground-born spikes, dissolving them into waves of energy that surged back into Gu You's body.
Finally, the field was cleared. Gu You raised his hand, and the Golden Dragon Spear returned to his grip, transferring all the energy it had absorbed and refined directly into him.
The vortices of qi and soul power within his body had both thickened again. The crystalline cores forming within each became even clearer.
Gu You could feel it—he was one step closer to forming both a soul core and a bloodline core.
'Looks like the energy refined by the Golden Dragon Spear is even more beneficial than I expected.'
At this point, Gu You couldn't help but wonder—would he become the first human in history to possess four soul cores? If anyone could do it… it would be him.
Long Yuxue finally exhaled a deep breath. Even with a whole platoon of soldiers, clearing out this many abyssal creatures wouldn't have been quick. Yet he'd done it alone, in a fraction of the time. It was almost unbelievable.
'Just how strong is he, really? He hasn't even used his battle armor yet. If he does, wouldn't he be even more terrifying?'
Gu You leapt into the cleared node and pressed on quickly, moving toward the next corridor. In a blink, he vanished inside.
"Gu You, that's enough. This is your first time here. Don't go too deep. Abyssal tunnels are unpredictable. There are periodic surges of abyssal creatures. If that happens, and a large number appear all at once, just the two of us won't be able to—"
She hadn't even finished when Gu You suddenly stopped.
"You might've just jinxed it."
A deep, rumbling roar echoed out from the corridor ahead, followed by a fierce gust of wind rushing toward them.
"This is bad! It's an abyssal tide! Run!" Long Yuxue cried, grabbing Gu You's wrist and turning to flee.
Gu You didn't know much about abyssal tides, but judging by her reaction, they didn't sound like something to mess with.
Seeing Long Yuxue's speed lag behind, Gu You didn't hesitate. He swept her up by the waist with one arm, then unleashed his two-word battle armor. Twin wings unfurled behind him.
With a powerful flap, he channeled all his qi and energy into his armor. Like a shooting star, they blasted back through the path they'd come.
Long Yuxue gasped in surprise as she was pulled into Gu You's strong embrace. The speed was so fast that the wind made it hard to even open her eyes.
'So fast… At full power, his flight speed isn't much slower than a Mo Mei's!'
In a flash, they reached the initial entrance—right where the Blood God Army's defenses had been set up.
"Abyssal tide incoming! Everyone, be ready!" Gu You bellowed.
As they burst out, he saw the node beyond already saturated with energy. Giant energy shields had been raised, and every soul cannon turret was fully charged and ready to fire.
Gu You and Long Yuxue touched down inside the protective zone.
The soldiers around them couldn't help but cast admiring glances at the massive purple-green wings behind Gu You—wings pulsing with vibrant life energy.
Everyone stationed here was elite, but two-word battle armor masters were still rare.
A massive energy shield stood between them and the tunnel.
Just then, a ferocious stream of grey-black energy came howling out of the passage.
All the energy shields lit up simultaneously. Blinding light fused into a single massive barrier, meeting the grey-black tide head-on.
Within that torrent of energy, vague shadows thrashed wildly. The impact made the barrier flare violently, clearly struggling to hold.
Long Yuxue finally let out a breath of relief. She glanced sideways at Gu You, then patted her chest and raised her soul rifle, ready for battle.
Gu You, however, wasn't thinking about her. He was fully focused on the surge in front of him.
He could feel it—the pressure of the abyssal tide. Even with the current defensive shield up, it might not hold.
Just as he expected, the blaring siren went off moments later.
"Abyssal tide has reached Tier Three intensity! Shield will hold for no more than five minutes! Begin full retreat to the second defensive line! Alert command and request reinforcements immediately! Full-scale abyssal assault likely imminent!"
"Let's go!" Long Yuxue grabbed Gu You and sprinted deeper into the base.
"What does Tier Three mean?" Gu You asked as they ran.
Long Yuxue's expression was grim.
"Normally, abyssal tides are Tier One or Two. The shield back there can handle those. That's what we train for. But once every few decades, the abyss launches a full invasion. That's when it becomes Tier Three."
"A Tier Three abyssal tide needs large-scale defense equipment to be stopped. And it also means high-ranking abyssal beings will be appearing—true threats. When that happens, it's an all-hands situation. I've never seen one myself… but it looks like you just happened to arrive right in time for one."
"Prepare yourself. Everyone will be mobilized."
"Got it," Gu You nodded.
As they reached the second defensive line, Gu You finally saw what true large-scale defense looked like.
Pre-assembled soul tools had already formed a full defense grid. The entire force was mobilized without chaos or panic.
Rows of cannons, energy barriers, and strange machines Gu You didn't even recognize were being deployed rapidly. The energy in the air thickened.
Then he saw it—a colossal metal sphere descending into the abyssal crater.
It had to be over three hundred meters in diameter. Dozens of energy jets at its base kept it suspended while the core emitted a tremendous energy field.
Long mechanical arms extended from the sphere, snaking into every tunnel node and connecting with the various defensive soul tools stationed there.
"What is that?" Gu You asked, turning to Long Yuxue beside him.
