In the outside world, this kind of deployment wouldn't just be considered a battalion—it would be classified as a full-fledged mecha regiment, equivalent to a group-level military unit. But here in the Blood God Army, it was simply a battalion.
And that wasn't all. The melee battalion also included a hundred One-Word Battle Armor Masters. These individuals were no less powerful than the mecha operators.
A standard battalion usually ranged between three to five hundred soldiers. Jiang Wuyue's melee battalion was a tightly structured force of exactly three hundred. He briefly explained to Gu You that every mecha was operated by a two-man crew, maximizing its combat potential. A single soul master's energy couldn't compare to two, and if their martial souls complemented each other, the effectiveness would be amplified. However, due to the mecha's bulk, they weren't as effective in close-quarters combat. That's why the unit was also equipped with One-Word Battle Armor Masters. Even though they were only at the first tier of battle armor mastery, their combat strength was not to be underestimated.
There wasn't a single soul master below the four-ring Soul Ancestor rank in the entire melee battalion.
It was simply terrifying.
Just this battalion, with a hundred Soul Kings and even Soul Emperors among them, could rival a reinforced regiment. Most were battle armor masters, and their overall fighting power was on par with—if not superior to—a ten-thousand-strong ordinary army of soul masters. Possibly even several times stronger.
If deployed in the outside world, this battalion alone could probably take on three ten-thousand-strong Star Luo regiments without a problem.
Of course, this wasn't the only melee battalion present. There were three in total stationed here. And with thirty-six abyssal passages to defend, was each one similarly equipped? The long-range units behind them were slightly smaller in number, but their firepower was undoubtedly the most effective means of eradicating abyssal creatures.
Gu You stayed close by Jiang Wuyue, observing and learning as he directed the troops. This was a rare opportunity for him to witness true battlefield command in action.
Finally, Jiang Wuyue finished his orders. All defenses were ready.
The abyssal tunnel continued to tremble as wave after wave of destructive energy struck. It seemed endless. Yet the warriors of the Blood God Army stood calm and steady. Soul tools were fully charged, and every soldier held their ground, prepared for the coming battle.
Reinforcements had arrived, though they hadn't been deployed. They stood ready to relieve the front lines at any moment.
The Blood God Army had stood guard over the abyssal passage for thousands of years, and their strength wasn't without reason. No matter what situation arose, they adapted swiftly and efficiently—a testament to their iron discipline and combat readiness.
Faint light shimmered in the air, and Gu You's face revealed a faint smile. Amid this atmosphere of steel and war, he could feel his own blood boiling.
What man didn't dream of dominating the battlefield, of experiencing the adrenaline-pumping thrill of war?
This was Gu You's first time stepping onto a real battlefield, his first experience with such a large-scale battle. Nearly two thousand troops were stationed at this passage alone.
Gu You had asked Jiang Wuyue a question earlier: if each of the thirty-six passages required two thousand troops, wouldn't the army's fifteen-thousand-strong combat force fall short?
But Jiang Wuyue had explained it clearly. It wasn't as simple as multiplying the numbers. Abyssal tides didn't break out across all passages at once. At most, three would be affected during a tide. The rest would remain dormant.
Besides, each tunnel was protected by its own defense system. Even if multiple tides erupted simultaneously, the Heart of the Blood God's shield could hold for a considerable time, giving the army enough time to redeploy and deal with the threats as they emerged.
Additionally, the Blood God Army had reserve forces and specialized soul tools designed specifically for abyssal creatures. Their centuries of impregnable defense were not for show—they had the resources and tactics to back it up.
After hearing that, Gu You chose not to press further. He'd see it all for himself soon enough.
The destructive energy storm continued for nearly two hours before finally beginning to subside. Gu You could already see, behind the blue energy barrier, a mass of abyssal creatures filling the cavern beyond. Once the shield fell, they would surge forward like a flood.
Their forms were grotesque and twisted. An ordinary person would likely faint from sheer terror at the sight.
"Prepare for battle!" came a loud shout. Jiang Wuyue's body flared with light as twin wings extended from his back—a full Two-Word Battle Armor.
His battle armor was a dark, iron-black color. There were no ornate designs, but it radiated a sense of unshakable weight. This was the essence of the Tyrannosaurus martial soul—raw, unrelenting strength.
All the mecha warriors in the front-line melee battalion stepped forward, raising their massive shields.
Each mecha wielded a towering fifteen-meter shield, forming an impenetrable wall to block the first wave of the abyssal charge.
Their task was simple—hold the line. The real killing power would come from the long-range units behind them.
If this wasn't a Tier Three abyssal tide, such an extreme setup wouldn't even be necessary.
At that moment, the destructive energy stopped completely. A mechanical voice echoed through the tunnel.
"The Heart of the Blood God's shield will be deactivated shortly. All units, prepare for combat."
At the rear, Long Yuxue had already leapt into action. Not seeing Gu You nearby, she spotted him beside Jiang Wuyue. Although she frowned slightly, she displayed the poise of a seasoned soldier and without hesitation, joined the long-range formation in preparation for battle.
The blue light of the shield began to fade, and the screeching of abyssal beasts could now be clearly heard through the thinning barrier.
"Fire!" came the voice of a commanding officer.
Hundreds of glowing energy balls soared into the air in perfect arcs, streaking toward the cavern's entrance.
Just then, the Heart of the Blood God's shield vanished. The abyssal creatures surged forward in a frenzied wave.
Screeech!
A sharp, piercing cry erupted, shaking the minds of every soldier present. It felt like their very souls were being ripped apart.
But at that crucial moment, a soft white light descended over the battlefield, blocking the sound completely.
The Blood God Army had fought abyssal beasts for millennia. They had countermeasures for everything—hard-earned through blood and sacrifice.
A deafening explosion followed. Countless abyssal beasts were torn to pieces in the blast, and an overwhelming surge of energy engulfed the field.
Long-range attacks rained down like a storm, colliding head-on with the abyssal tide.
Gu You stood beside Jiang Wuyue, watching the battlefield erupt into a sea of light and destruction. But it was impossible to make out any details through the sheer chaos…
