My legs are feeling sore from leg day, but that pain pales in comparison to that of my lungs from the laughter I'm holding in right now. The only reason why I haven't laughed yet is because Leilani is sitting next to me, and I'm supposed to be the reason she gets her mother's jewelry returned to her not the reason why she loses them.
"Is the food to your liking?" Leilani's stepmom who asked me to call her Amelia, asks. I simply nod at her, swallowing another laugh down with my food before forcing the words out of my mouth:
"Yes. It's very delicious, thank you very much."
"Of course it is. My Briana is good at cooking," she adds looking at her daughter sitting next to her. I have to take the way Leilani snaps her head up at me as her signaling that Amelia is lying.
"Mom, you're embarrassing me," Briana giggles, biting into her food and looking at me from beneath her lashes.
I know that look.
