Chapter 254 - Chapter 254: I, Gwen, a Superpower User

"The final result is, the Korvac incident was essentially resolved safely, but aside from learning that the future Kang is going to launch an invasion against us, we gained nothing."

Back in New York, Reed told Tony this. This was not something that could be discussed with the Captain; the old man was already overwhelmed by the world seventy years in the future, let alone a thousand years from now. Dealing with a future invasion could only be entrusted to Tony and Hank.

Everyone knew that the next time Kang arrived, he wouldn't be coming alone. He was the sovereign of an empire, not a lone brute.

"Ha, so after experiencing two alien invasions, we now have to face a future invasion," Tony laughed helplessly. "You know what the biggest problem is, Reed? Whatever preparations we make, that guy in the future can see them. We're practically working in vain."

"We can't just do nothing. My Multiverse Jumper is almost finished construction; it'll be done in about half a month at the most. Then we can seek help from other multiverses," Reed sighed helplessly. "What about the Avengers? What are they planning?"

"Hank thinks modifying Ultron or J.A.R.V.I.S. into a self-evolving AI could counter Kang, but we have other concerns."

The information from the multiverse made Tony uneasy. To counter a possible future Kang Dynasty, should they risk triggering an Age of Ultron? Was this really appropriate?

"What about the Guardians of the Galaxy?"

"They said they have to deal with galactic issues and can't manage Earth's problems." Reed felt that the Guardians of the Galaxy simply didn't want to get involved here. Of course, they also had some personal matters to deal with. Star-Lord had to visit relatives, as he just learned his grandfather was still alive. Rocket finally realized he was a raccoon, and that the damned High Evolutionary was an Earthling, so he was desperate to gather enough intel and go beat the living hell out of the High Evolutionary.

But all in all, counting on these alien friends to help in time when Kang the Conqueror fully invaded was unrealistic.

"Alright, that Air Force Colonel, what was her name again? How is she doing?"

"She has become a super... battery. She can absorb energy to strengthen her cells, which enhances her physical abilities, and she can also discharge energy," Reed shrugged helplessly. "I'm still studying her exact body strength, but it shouldn't be too high."

"Well, I hope no other super-powered individuals pop up," Tony sighed helplessly, feeling a headache coming on. "A US Colonel gaining superpowers—General Ross at the Pentagon must be overjoyed."

In reality, the next super-powered individual appeared very quickly.

Peter Parker was enjoying his downtime. He was sitting on a chair in the hotel's mid-level recreation floor, playing on his phone. His Spider-Sense suddenly registered a slight disturbance. He instinctively reached out behind him and caught someone's wrist.

He leaned his head back and saw a quite surprising person.

"Gwen? You... I didn't hear your footsteps."

Peter released her hand. Gwen rubbed her wrist and happily sat down beside Peter: "See? Even you can only sense me when I'm really close, right?"

"...So? Did you learn some kind of stealth technique?"

"Not that." Gwen looked conflicted and urged, "Turn away first. Turn your head."

Peter did as instructed, then seemed to remember something and continued scrolling on his phone.

Wait, something feels wrong.

Did someone just call me?

Peter looked around blankly, finally saw Gwen sitting next to him, and instantly understood: "Wait, you... you awakened superpowers?"

"Yeah, I found that as long as I want it, anyone who isn't actively looking at me will feel that I don't exist. It's been like this since I came out of the Cosmic Cube, no, since Korvac left." Gwen was extremely delighted. The Cosmic Cube has the ability to alter reality, and as the first person Korvac saw, it seemed Korvac remembered Gwen deeply.

He had told Gwen, You are also a Spider, but when Korvac left, his energy didn't transform Gwen into a Spider-Man; instead, it gave her a different ability.

"If you don't look at me, that Gwen Stacy doesn't exist. You won't remember me, know what I've done, or what I'm doing."

Compared to the excited Gwen, Peter was more concerned about something else: "Is this ability passive, or..."

"It's active. If it were passive, that would be way too troublesome."

Peter breathed a sigh of relief. He was familiar with similar abilities, such as the obscure X-Men character ForgetMeNot, a turning-the-head-forgets-you ability user. The classic Doctor Who villain The Silence also had the same ability. If this ability were passive, life would be complicated; but the real issue would be if the ability went out of control, and the whole world forgot Gwen—that would be a huge disaster.

ForgetMeNot in the X-Men was forgotten by people, so he wasn't even included in the Krakoa era's resurrection.

"So, what codename should I pick? Ghost?"

"Someone is already called Ghost, so I don't think that works."

Peter first vetoed Gwen's idea. If Gwen had gained Spider powers right now, she truly would be a literal "Ghost-Spider," a Spider-Woman no one remembered—that would be too terrifying. As for now...

"First, we need to confirm that your ability came from Korvac and not from something else, like the X-Gene."

Peter looked at Gwen very seriously. Gwen stuck out her tongue, waiting for Peter to continue.

"And then what?"

"...I also don't think your ability is suitable for a superhero. After all, no one remembers what you've done. S.H.I.E.L.D. might be very interested in you, but trust me, that place isn't for you, so you'd best, uh, stay out of it?" Peter said this even though he didn't believe it himself—Gwen not getting involved was impossible.

The most convenient use of this ability is for infiltration and surprise attacks. For surprise attacks, Gwen's physical strength might not be effective. For infiltration, maybe he should talk to Felicia about it?

While Peter was still racking his brain over this, Gwen seemed to have thought of something and interrupted Peter, who was about to continue: "Okay, let's put that aside for now. Actually, I have something else I need to talk to you about. Something very important."

Peter sat up straight and looked at Gwen, wondering what she was going to say.

"It's about my... perfect world."
